Another advantage from using the fan is that it becomes the model’s best friend. With the hot and humid days we have here in Florida, this fan becomes a must-have to keep your models cool and refreshed in between shots. Since we are doing most of our shoots outdoors, this is also useful for when makeup is applied while working with the makeup artist. The model will really appreciate having this alongside them throughout the shoot. It's also great for us photographers when we spend long days on-location and need a little breeze for a pick-me-up!

Il faut dire que Google Chrome est désormais le navigateur le plus utilisé dans le monde, devant Edge, ce qui veut dire que c'est «la première fois depuis dix-huit ans qu'un navigateur qui n'a pas été fabriqué par Microsoft est l'outil principal pour accéder au web» et qu'Edge aimerait bien remédier à cela. Comme le raconte The Verge:

«Microsoft essaie clairement de convaincre les gens d'utiliser Edge, mais il manque toujours à son nouveau navigateur certaines des fonctionnalités que l'on peut trouver sous Chrome et Firefox. Les extensions ne sont pas encore disponibles, mais elles devraient l'être cet été. Microsoft promet également encore plus d'améliorations pour conserver sa batterie plus longtemps».
Selon les derniers chiffres le navigateur de Chrome est le plus utilisé tandis que le nouveau Microsoft Edge introduit avec Windows 10 ne décolle pas. Microsoft a un argument pour inciter les utilisateurs de PC portables à tester son navigateur : l'économie d'énergie.

Et il ne s'agit pas ici d'un argument écologique ou économique mais d'un problème qui concerne tous les utilisateurs de PC portables : l'autonomie. Sur son blog Windows Expérience Microsoft explique avoir testé des sessions de navigation sur quatre ordinateurs portables identiques, des Microsoft Surface, chacun avec un navigateur différent. Les ordinateurs ont tourné jusqu'à épuisement de la batterie.La vidéo du test montre que l'ordinateur utilisant Chrome est le premier à s'éteindre, c'est donc le navigateur de Google qui serait le plus gourmand. Il est suivi ensuite par Mozilla Firefox puis par Opera. Le PC utilisant Microsoft Edge est quant à lui le dernier à rester allumé après sept heures de fonctionnement, soit trois heures de plus que celui sous Chrome. Une vidéo du test a été réalisée.

Le test a été effectué sans que Edge n'ait un mode de sauvegarde de la batterie activé indique Microsoft. La même série d'activité a été attribuée à chaque ordinateur portable : ouverture de sites web et scroll des pages habituellement utilisées par les internautes : Facebook, Wikipedia, Google, youtube, Amazon etc... Le résultat a été mis sous forme de graphique.Microsoft a ensuite utilisé la télémétrie, les données collectées sur les PC sous Windows à travers le monde, pour vérifier si leur expérience se reflétait dans la réalité. Là encore les chiffres qui ressortent de l'utilisation des ordinateurs sont à l'avantage de Edge, talonné par Mozilla Firefox et suivi de Chrome encore une fois bon dernier. Opera n'a semble-t-il pas été suffisamment utilisé pour apparaitre dans le graphique.

Enfin, l'éditeur explique que le Wall Street Journal arrivait à la même conclusion dans un article paru récemment en constatant que le navigateur Edge offrait de meilleures performances au niveau de l'économie d'énergie.Ce test a été réalisé pour mettre en avant les modifications que Microsoft a fait à son navigateur en vue de l'arrivée de la mise à jour anniversaire de Windows 10 qui sera délivrée le mois prochain. Un autre billet de blog énumère les efforts faits sur les onglets en arrière plan, l'utilisation de Flash, le mode lecture ou encore le traitement de l'activité réseau.

Transformer un smartphone en PC portable, plusieurs entreprises ont tenté l’expérience avec plus ou moins de réussite. Nous nous souvenons du dock du Motorola Atrix. Nous nous souvenons aussi du PadFone d’Asus, dont l’écosystème intégrait une tablette et un clavier complet. Et bien sûr, il y a Microsoft avec Windows 10 Mobile et Continuum. Cependant, il faut reconnaître que les solutions « universelles » sous Android ne sont pas légion. En voici une qui pourrait montrer l’exemple : Superbook d'une jeune start-up américaine, Andromium. Superbook est un accessoire qui ressemble beaucoup à un PC portable, à l'image du NexDock présenté il y a quelques mois dans nos colonnes. Son écran mesure 11,6 pouces et la définition atteint le 720p. Sa batterie offre une autonomie de 8 heures (avec possibilité de recharger le mobile en même temps). Le clavier reprend la configuration d’un MacBook, avec pavé tactile multitouch inclus. Un port USB (très important) est accessible sur la tranche de gauche. Et à l’intérieur, il n’y a aucun système d’exploitation.

Toute l’intelligence se trouve évidemment dans le téléphone. Car le Superbook est un accessoire, rien de plus. Pour y connecter un mobile, il suffit d’un simple câble USB (celui qui est généralement fourni avec le téléphone) et d’une application à télécharger depuis le Play Store. Cette application s’appelle Andromium OS et son rôle s’apparente à celui du Display Dock de Microsoft : adapter l’interface du mobile à celle d’un PC portable, avec une barre de menu type Chrome OS.
Des millions d'applications compatibles
Ce qui est intéressant avec cette solution, c’est la simplicité. L’ensemble des applications du smartphone s’affiche sur l’écran. Ce qui sous-entend que le système devrait être compatible avec toutes les applications du Play Store (même si nous nous posons certaines questions pour les jeux). Quelques adaptations graphiques ont été faites pour recréer un « menu démarrer » à la manière de Windows pour accéder simplement aux logiciels et aux outils système. Voilà donc une alternative cohérente aux Chromebooks.

Reste à connaitre son prix évidemment. Le produit fera l’objet dans les prochaines semaines d’une campagne Kickstarter durant laquelle le Superbook sera commercialisé 99 dollars. Il s’agira certainement d’un prix spécial pour les « Early Birds ». Il devrait donc augmenter rapidement, même pendant la campagne, mais rester toujours moins cher que le prix public. Et la date de lancement ? Comme toujours avec les projets Kickstarter, il faudra attendre plusieurs mois avant les premières livraisons. Et encore plus pour la mise en vente.

Asus G74SX Battery

You can get cheaper ultrabooks but only if you're willing to drop to a markedly slower Core M processor, as in the Asus UX305CA.
HP has repositioned itself as a premium lifestyle brand. While you might say this first came about several years ago when the company partnered with Beats (now owned by Apple) and launched a range of silver Envy laptops, the HP has doubled down with the Spectre 13.The Spectre 13 is an ultra-thin, ultra-light laptop looking to rival Apple’s 12-inch MacBook and 13in MacBook Air. It succeeds on some fronts, but there are some big compromises.Weighing only 1.1kg, with a maximum thickness of just over 10mm, HP has succeeded in its aim of producing the thinnest Intel Core i-powered laptop around. I took the Spectre 13 on two flights and a train journey and it was the perfect companion.

It comes with a leather sleeve, too, meaning I didn’t have to worry about the dark grey aluminium lid picking up any scratches in my backpack.The actual design and colour choice of the Spectre 13 will divide opinion. I don’t dislike the grey aluminium finish with copper-coloured highlights, but in my opinion HP hasn't done itself any favours by not offering a less showy option of the laptop. Obviously, HP wants its laptop to stand out on store shelves, which it achieves, but I don’t think this translates well to the real world. Nevertheless, you can’t deny that HP has done a great job of creating something unique.The Spectre 13 feels reasonably well built: the keyboard tray feels solid and the corners of the laptop look capable of taking a few knocks without damaging the components inside.The "piston" hinge is another unique design choice that sets the Spectre apart, but ultimately, it's one of its flaws. Its use limits the movement of the lid, so it doesn’t tilt back quite far enough when you're working with the Spectre 13 on your lap in a cramped space. However, the screen’s viewing angles are wide enough to minimise the effects here.

The keyboard is backlit, which is useful for typing in the dark, but otherwise there isn't much here that warrants praise. It’s comfortable to type on, but the key-press action isn’t the most tactile I’ve felt and travel, too, could be better.The Spectre 13's touchpad is a real disappointment. It isn't a Microsoft-certified Precision Touchpad, so effectively doesn’t benefit from excellent, responsive drivers and seamless gestures.It does the basics reasonably well, but having used Precision Touchpads HP's feels half a decade behind. The worst part is the physical click, which, when activated, causes the cursor to jump slightly.There are three USB Type-C ports at the rear of the device, one for charging and the other two for high-speed data transfer via the USB 3.1 Gen 2 ports. Note that the charging port can also be used as a data transfer port.One USB Type-C to USB Type-A port is supplied in the box, so you’ll be able to connect your legacy peripherals. However, if you want to connect to a network via Ethernet, you’ll have to buy an Ethernet to USB Type-C connector for between £15-£30.

The Full HD IPS screen on the Spectre 13 is superb, but you’d expect nothing less for the money. Contrast and brightness are excellent – the Spectre 13 reaches a maximum brightness of 301cd/m2 – but the screen’s Gorilla Glass (non-touch) coating does mean reflections are a slight problem.The screen covers 95% of the sRGB colour gamut, and as a result most vibrant colours are served well. Contrast is rated at 1,531:1, meaning bright colours stand out while darker areas look inky. Backlight bleed, where visible, is minor. Overall, this is an excellent display.In contrast, the Spectre 13's built-in speakers are disappointing, failing to offer much depth or range. They’re fine for TV and the occasional movie, but you’ll get a better experience from the rear-mounted 3.5mm jack with either headphones or desktop speakers.I’ve never seen a Surface Pro competitor look quite so similar to Microsoft's finest. The Asus Transformer 3 Pro takes so many design cues from the Surface Pro 4 that I'd put money on the majority of people mistaking the device for something that has come straight out of Redmond.

Imitation is the sincerest form of flattery and all that, but is the Transformer 3 Pro actually a worthy competitor? From my initial impressions, I'd say "probably".The two are near-identical when it comes to technical specifications. First up, the screen: Asus has fitted a 2,860 x 1,920 pixel display to the Transformer 3 Pro, narrowly pipping the 2,736 x 1,824 pixels on the Surface Pro 4. It may not be obvious, but the Asus machine is actually 0.4-inches larger than the Surface Pro 4, with a 12.6in diagonal.It looks fantastic, not least because of Asus’ quoted 121% sRGB colour gamut volume. The tablet will get an optional Asus Pen stylus, too, which has 1,024 points of pressure sensitivity – a boon for designers. There wasn’t a stylus on display at the Asus booth, but judging by the pictures of the device, the pen doesn’t appear to benefit from the same magnetic attachment as on the Surface Pro 4.The Transformer 3 Pro is 8.35mm thick without its keyboard dock and weighs 795g, putting it on a par with Microsoft’s tablet. It will ship with a keyboard dock as standard, however, giving it a one-up on Microsoft. The whole assembly feels very solid; Asus hasn’t cut costs in the build quality department.

In my opinion, it is the keyboard cover that is the strongest suit in this device: it benefits from plenty of travel and a chunky feel, plus the touchpad is smooth and sensitive.The tablet portion has a kickstand that can tilt the tablet to a near-horizontal position, making it ideal for lap-based working. I didn’t get an opportunity to sit down with it on my lap, though, so it will be interesting to see how stable it is in the real world.Performance will come from a dual-core Intel Core i5-6200U or i7-6500U processor, depending on specification. Performance was smooth and responsive during my hands-on, and given the track record of these processors, I’ve no reason to think this will differ with regards to the final product. Supporting the processor will be up to 16GB of RAM and PCI Express-based SSDs with capacities of up to 1TB.Also included in the Transformer 3 Pro is a full set of ports here. There’s full-size USB 3.0, a USB 3.1-C/Thunderbolt 3.0 combination port, a microSD card reader and a full-size HDMI port, too.

The Thunderbolt port can be used to connect to the external Asus ROG XG Station 2 graphics dock, which lets you hook up to a full-sized desktop graphics card for PC gaming on your tiny tablet. When demonstrated, it looked fairly flaky and buggy, but I’ll put this down to pre-production niggles.Battery life could be one point of contention: on the device I tried, 56% of the battery remained with an estimated rundown time of 2hrs 5mins. However, note that the device was running at maximum brightness. Nevertheless, the numbers suggest you'll have to do some serious conservation for the Transformer 3 Pro to make it through a day’s work.

Price for the Transformer 3 Pro will start at £900 for an i5 model with 4GB of RAM and 256GB of storage, and go up to £1,400 for an i7 with 8GB of RAM and 512GB storage. This undercuts the Surface Pro 4 by around £70 for a bottom-spec model.The Transformer Pro 3 will be available in the UK in August. I look forward to pitting it head-to-head with the Surface Pro 4.Asus’ ZenBook range has proven enduringly popular with reviewers and buyers alike, offering fantastic specifications and reasonable build quality at a market-leading price.With the ZenBook 3, announced alongside several other new devices at Computex today, Asus has produced a laptop that's thinner and lighter than any that have come before it. The ZenBook 3 is just 11.9mm thick and weighs 910g. That’s thinner and lighter than the ZenBook UX305.

All this counts for nothing if it doesn’t feel good, and following some hands-on time with the laptop at the show, I'm hopeful that Asus has actually created a fairly robust machine. The all-metal exterior of the ZenBook 3 feels strong and the traditional weak point of the lid feels less bendy than some of the ZenBooks that have come before it.The laptop looks fantastic, too. The blue finish with a gold trim may divide opinion, but personally, I'm a fan. Asus is also offering a Rose Gold and a grey option too.The ZenBook 3' dimension slender design and light weight means that you can easily throw this laptop into a bag without a second thought. Its 12.5in form factor actually feels more compact than it is, thanks to fairly slim bezels on the left and right of the machine.The screen, while a decent performer in terms of colours, did suffer some fairly nasty banding and backlight bleed at the bottom of the panel, although I’ll let Asus off here since this will have been a pre-production sample. I hope the issue is resolved for the final build.Overall build quality, and such a thin chassis, is all the more impressive given that the ZenBook 3 is powered by Intel Core i – not low-power Core M – processors. Intel Core i5-6200Us or Core i5-6500Us will be available at launch, supported by 16GB of RAM and super-fast PCI Express SSDs. This is one snappy machine.

The keyboard offers 8.8mm of travel to each key, although the slightly odd shape of the keyboard and huge keys made typing feel a little strange. However, since I spent very little time with the machine at Asus’ event, it's something over which I'll give Asus the benefit of the doubt, until I'm able to review the laptop in depth.I wasn’t hugely impressed by the touchpad. It didn’t feel quite as sensitive as I'd have liked, although gestures appeared to work seamlessly during my brief time with it.On the top-right of the touchpad sits a small fingerprint reader; it's been quite some time since I've seen a consumer-grade laptop featuring a fingerprint reader. This will allow you to log in without typing in your password, using Windows Hello.Battery life is claimed to be up to 9 hours, which is probably just about achievable with minimum brightness and Battery Saver mode in play.One unfortunate characteristic this machine shares with the MacBook is its single port: the USB Type-C connector is used for charging the device and plugging in any additional peripherals. In order to get proper work done at your desk, you'll need a dock.

The price? For a bottom-spec version, the Asus ZenBook 3 costs just £550. Prices for the higher specification models starts at £800 – however, it isn't yet exactly clear what differentiates the two versions, so hold out until they go on sale in August.If build quality lives up to the opening impressions, and the battery life isn’t too horribly compromised by the thin chassis and high-performance processors, I wouldn't be surprised to see the ZenBook 3 up there with the best laptops of 2016.The Yoga 260 brings together two of Lenovo's signature laptop lines. Whether you're after a reliable workhorse or a versatile touchscreen hybrid, the Yoga 260 should be the ideal device.Available in a few configurations that begin at £899 and rise to £1,299, the Yoga 260 is competitively priced for a ThinkPad product. But is it the ultimate business ultraportable device?

The ThinkPad design ethos has been set in stone for a couple of decades now. A utilitarian black finish; little in the way of compromise towards form at the expense of function; and a snazzy little angled ThinkPad logo in the corner.There's no MacBook Air-like metal frame, or the fancy slim-bezelled screen of the Dell XPS 13. Instead, the Yoga 260 has relatively chunky, tough black plastic throughout and it offers a sturdy screen with thick protective bezels.The only external metal components are the two all-important hinges that make this a Yoga machine. They allow the screen to be set at any angle, from fully closed right the way round to the screen facing outwards and the keyboard and trackpad in the same position on the other side, like a super-thick tablet.In this tablet-like form, it's possible to more easily scribble on the screen or pass the device around to show photos or presentations. Meanwhile, all the angles in between provide numerous setups that make it easier to use the device in different situations.

Acer Aspire 5542 Battery

I’m less enamoured of the touchpad. The pad’s palm detection works well and it has a nice smooth finish. But the device features a horrid all-in-one design where the discrete right- and left-click buttons integrate into the main pad. This makes it all too easy to have the pointer go flying off your intended target when you try to click and drag.Sensitivity for basic tasks is fine and the pad feels reactive, but its multi-touch abilities aren’t up to scratch. The touchpad struggles to recognise basic tasks like scrolling up and down using two fingers. All too often the pad wouldn’t recognise my commands, and would then inexplicably jump into action and enact every instruction I’d given it. The problem was intermittent but fairly annoying and would regularly cause chaos on spreadsheets or text files I was editing.

The Acer Switch Alpha 12’s 12-inch screen features some impressive specifications, on paper at least. The 2,160 x 1,440 resolution easily matches its key rivals, including the Surface Pro 4, and ensures text and icons are uniformly sharp.To the naked eye colours are also solid and, thanks to the use of IPS screen tech, whites are nice and clean. I didn’t notice severe backlight bleed either. If all you want to do is watch Netflx, browse the web or doodle a few quick notes in OneNote, the screen is more than up to scratch.However, more in-depth testing with a colorimeter revealed a few issues with the display that will put off some buyers. The 456.7nits max brightness is very bright, but the 0.56 black level gives it a distinctly average 795:1 contrast ratio. The 8,712k colour temperature is also well above the 6,500k ideal.

The screen’s 81.3% coverage of the sRGB colour gamut is OK for regular use, but its 57.8% coverage of the Adobe RGB is disappointing.For regular folks who just want a tablet to watch Netflix, or a laptop to web browse, these figures won’t be a problem. The Adobe RGB coverage will, however, be a serious negative for professional artists and designers looking to take advantage of the Aspire’s stylus.The inaccurate colours make the tablet a poor choice for editing photos or digital painting. A few years ago this would've been fine, but since the arrival of stellar tablets like the Galaxy TabPro S, there are better convertibles available for artists.

Hybrid devices generally offer pretty poor audio quality. The thin dimensions and focus on portability mean they always come loaded with tiny, generally underpowered speakers. This remains true on the Switch Alpha 12. The tablet section’s speakers are good enough for Netflix watching in bed, but it's underpowered for pretty much everything else.Maximum volume levels aren’t as high as the Surface Pro 4’s and rapidly become tinny when you try to play music on them. Being fair to Acer, though, they’re no worse than on most other Windows tablets and this is an issue I’ve encountered on close to all of the hybrids I’ve tested.

The front microphone is similarly weak, which is a shame as the front camera can shoot at 1080p. During video chats the person on the other end of the line struggled to hear me with even moderate background noise. The camera also didn’t perform as well as I expected. Even though it can shoot at 1080p, it struggles in even moderately dim lighting conditions. Recording on an overcast London morning the camera made me look like a member of the Walking Dead.
The latest version of Dell’s Inspiron 13 5000 line is an intriguing product. It’s a laptop/tablet hybrid device with a touchscreen that’s attached via a 360-degree hinge that allows for it to be completely flipped around into a tablet-like form.That in itself is nothing new, but what Dell has also done is to keep costs impressively low, with this machine available from just £499. Add a smart design and a wide range of spec options and you have a machine that should be ideal for an array of different buyers.

Dell's long had an eye for making great-looking products, even at the budget end of the market, and the 5368 is no exception. The company’s favoured gun-metal grey adorns most of the machine, and although it’s just a paint finish on a plastic chassis, it looks great.Helping complete the look are lots of nice little touches, such as the fact that the back of the screen and the keyboard surround are both single pieces of plastic, so there are no seams to break up the clean lines. Similarly, the screen surround uses a contrasting black plastic that blends in that much better with the darkness of the screen itself.It’s just a shame Dell felt the need to add little screen-protecting rubber bumps to either side of the keyboard.

One thing this machine can’t claim, though, is to be all that thin and light. While it’s still relatively so, dimensions of 325 x 224 x 20.4mm and a weight of 1.62kg make it noticeably heftier than non-touchscreen ultrabooks such as the Lenovo Ideapad 710S or Dell’s own XPS 13.This has allowed Dell to squeeze in better connectivity options than you’ll get on those machines, though. Here you get not two but three USB 3.0 ports and a full-size HDMI, which is far more convenient than the micro/mini video outputs on slimmer machines.You also get a headphone jack, SD card reader and a Kensington lock slot for keeping this laptop affixed to a desk. There’s not room for a wired network connection, but you do of course get 802.11ac Wi-Fi and Bluetooth 4.0.Continuing the great first impressions is the keyboard. The layout is good and the key action is nicely defined, making it easy to tell you’ve pressed a key properly. It’s also backlit and there are two brightness levels as well as the option to turn it off completely. Although the review sample we have here uses a US layout, a UK version is available too.

Sadly the Inspiron 13 5000 is brought crashing back to earth by the quality of its screen. From the moment you fire this laptop up, it’s clear the screen has some serious issues.Viewed absolutely straight on, it’s OK. Colours seem accurate, there are plenty enough pixels thanks to an ample 1920 x 1080 resolution and there’s a decent level of contrast, so it doesn’t look dull or washed out.However, move even slightly off axis in any direction and an annoying graininess is introduced. This isn’t just annoying from a technical image quality point of view, but it's also physically uncomfortable to view, as it has a shimmering quality to it that makes it slightly difficult to focus properly on the image. It’s quite a common effect on cheap screens, and while some devices can sort of get away with it, for a 2-in-1 like this it just feels unforgivable.

Add in the inevitable reflections of the glass touchscreen and it just can’t hold a candle to more conventional ultrabook screens, while plenty of high-quality tablets do far better for the same money.Putting it to the test with a colorimeter, there’s little to redeem this display. Its maximum brightness is just 257nits – some way behind the 300-350nits of most ultrabooks – making use in bright conditions less than ideal.Coverage of the sRGB colour space is also just 59.8%. I suspect this may be the crucial figure that provides a clue to that shimmering effect. The screen will be using dithering – where pixels alternate between two colours to mimic another colour – to make up for its lack of inherent colour depth. Just the slightest change in contrast when viewed off-centre highlights the difference in the two colours.

The only saving grace is that colour temperature (6,101K) is reasonably close to the ideal of 6,500K. Contrast is an impressive 1,285:1, so at least in colour accuracy terms it doesn’t immediately look wrong – there’s no obvious blue tint, for instance.However, these scores fail to really drag this display up to being anything more than just about adequate for general computing. If you like to sit back and watch video on your laptop or you need accurate colours for editing pictures and the like, then it’s simply not up to snuff.All of which is a massive misstep for a machine that’s so screen-centric. After all, what’s the point of having a 360-degree hinge that can allow you to position your screen in a multitude of different ways if it still looks a bit rubbish from any angle.

Nonetheless, the hinge itself is very well engineered and makes it easy to securely position the screen at any angle. Once past 180 degrees it will also automatically turn off the keyboard and trackpad and prompt Windows to shift into tablet mode.Meanwhile, the touchscreen element is OK, with it largely feeling accurate and responsive. However, there were a few two many occasions where, when just browsing the web, it would incorrectly think I’d tapped a link or double-tapped to zoom into a section when all I was trying to do was swipe up or down to scroll.As for audio, it’s actually pretty good for such a slim machine. The stereo speakers on the underside get reasonably loud and there’s a little more mid-range power than you might expect. It’s not class-leading, but it's better than many a laptop I’ve used.
The Raspberry Pi is the beloved mascot of makers and tinkerers all across the world and has sold more than eight million units. While the sales figures are impressive, the Pi hasn’t yet made the jump to being an everyday device for the masses. To most people, it remains a circuit board that they don’t understand.

Pi-top is hoping to change that, with an eponymous build-it-yourself laptop kit that turns the Pi into something a little more familiar. Granted, the idea may sound ludicrous at first – but it actually has plenty going for it.Weighing a meagre 1.5kg, it’s light for a 13.3-inch laptop and has a long 12-hour battery life. Combine that with the low $299 price point and the Pi-top is capable of giving Chromebooks a run for their money.Yet for all these benefits the Pi-top isn’t trying to replace budget laptops for adults. Instead, it’s set itself up as a laptop for kids between the ages of nine and 16. Pi-top has even developed a suite of workshops and games to teach kids how to code and build their own hardware.

The Pi-top’s lurid green shell arrives in four pieces, which, along with the internal components, have to be assembled before you can do anything else. If you’ve ever played with Airfix planes then this won’t be particularly taxing; the assembly process is illustrated with Lego-like diagrams that kids can easily follow.Parental guidance is still recommended, but the Pi-top isn’t something you’ll have to assemble the night before just to make sure it works. It took me around 20 minutes, and I was amazed that it was mostly a tool-free experience. The chassis simply slots together with a few bolts to reinforce it.

Initially, I was a little concerned about this simplified design. The hardware is protected by a single, easily removed piece of black plastic. But after two weeks of testing, the Pi-top proved as resilient as any other laptop – and the fact that you can easily reveal the innards made it fascinating, even for supposed adults like me.The design isn’t without compromises, however. The biggest is that the are no speakers, which makes it impossible to play music or enjoy many games to their fullest. It does have a 3.5mm jack, so headphones of external speakers are supported.Pi-top is also an expandable platform and speaker modules are available. If you’re approaching Pi-top as an adult’s laptop then the need to wire in your own speakers would be awful, but for kids, this is a great weekend project.

Worauf man als NX1 gewohnter Fotograf bei der NX500 verzichten muss? Auf den Suchermonitor, den man in der gleissenden Sonne manchmal gerne hätte, dann auf die Mikro- und Kopfhöreranschlüsse, die vor allem den Videofilmern fehlen, sowie ein paar weitere, weniger wichtige Einstellungen. Ein elektronischer Sucher lässt auch nicht aufstecken, wohl aber der mitgelieferte Mini-Blitz mit Leitzahl 8. Er nimmt kaum Platz weg, ist nur wenige Gramm schwer, so dass er mitkommt – obwohl wir ihn kaum eingesetzt hatten. Die 25’600 ISO der NX500, die sich erstaunlich rauschfrei präsentieren, fangen die Licht-und Effektstimmungen in den meisten Pavillons wirkungsvoll ein. Riesige Blachen über dem 1,5 Kilometer langen Messeboulevard, «Decumano» genannt, spenden Schatten. Die Sony Alpha 7R II (kurz A7R II) ist eine spiegellose kompakte Systemkamera (CSC = Compact System Camera) mit «Sony E»-Objektivanschluss (E-Mount). Sie verfügt über einen rückseitig belichteten CMOS-Bildsensor im Kleinbild-Vollformat mit 42,4 Megapixeln. Offiziell wird die Kamera auch ILCE-7RM2 genannt (ILCE = Interchangeable Lens Camera E-Mount) und ist unter diesem Namen unter anderem auf Websites und in Preislisten zufinden.Sony Alpha 7R II SensorBlick auf den zur Bildstabilisierung beweglichen Bildsensor im Kleinbild- bzw. Vollformat und das den E-mount Objektivbajonett.

Die 7R II ist Teil des «Alpha 7»-Systems, das aktuell fünf Kameras und elf Objektive von Sony und Zeiss umfasst, wobei die Objektivpalette in absehbarer Zeit auf etwa 20 Modelle ausgebaut werden soll. Ergänzt wird das Objektivangebot durch vier Festbrennweiten von Zeiss, die nicht über Sony, sondern über die Zeiss-Distribution angeboten werden. (Beachten Sie unsere Übersicht über das «Sony Alpha 7»-System, die ein PDF mit den wichtigsten Daten aller Objektive enthält.) Neben den Sony- und Zeiss-Objektiven gibt es noch von einigen Fremdobjektivherstellern (z.B. von Samyang) passende Vollformatlinsen.

Sony E-Mount-Objektive 2015Alle elf Vollformatobjektive (Sony und Zeiss), die aktuell von Sony vertrieben werden. Ergänzt werden sie im Bild durch die zwei Weitwinkelkonverter, die als Vorsatzlinsen aus dem 28mm ein 16mm-FishEye bzw. ein 20mm-SuperWW machen.Wem dieses Objektivangebot nicht reicht, der findet viele Objektive mit E-Mount für die kleineren Bildsensoren im APS-C-Format und sehr viele Adapterlösungen. Bei Verwendung von APS-C-Objektiven wird automatisch (oder je nach Menüeinstellung auch manuell) ein entsprechend kleiner Sensorbereich benuzt. Es kommt dabei zum Brennweitenverlängerungseffekt. Verbunden ist damit auch eine reduzierte Fotoauflösung, wobei die 18 Mpx im Fall der A7R II für den Grossteil von Anwendungszwecken genügen dürften. Beim Videofilmen ist dieser Sensorausschnitt zudem nicht bloss eine Krücke, denn der APS-C-Ausschnitt entspricht eher dem klassischen Film- bzw. Sensorformat «Super 35mm» aus dem Cinema-Bereich.

Die im Juni 2015 angekündigte A7R Mark II (siehe Meldung) ist die fünfte Kamera im «Alpha 7»-System und die Nachfolgerin der A7R, die ihrerseits im Herbst 2013 zusammen mit der A7 und fünf ersten Objektiven zum Start des Systems vorgestellt worden war. (Die alte A7R bleibt vorderhand im Angebot.) Die unverbindliche Preisempfehlung für die Kamera (Gehäuse ohne Objektiv) liegt bei 3599 Franken.Die neue A7R Mark II kommt, wie die ebenfalls vor rund einem halben Jahr eingeführte A7 Mark II, in einem neuen Gehäuse und mit einem über fünf Achsen beweglichen Sensor, der eine Bildstabilisierung (Sony Steady Shot) mit jedem angebrachten Objektiv erlaubt.Die Kamera bietet eine höhere Foto- und Videoauflösung als ihre Vorgängerin. So stehen für Fotos nun 42 Mpx (A7R: 36 Mpx) zur Verfügung, und sie filmt zusätzlich in «4K» oder genau genommen in UHD bzs QFHD-Auflösung (3860 x 2180 px) mit 25 Ganzbildern pro Sekunde (25p). Für «Full HD»-Videoaufnahmen sind 25p, 50p sowie neu 100p für Zeitlupenaufnahmen möglich. (Im NTSC-Modus stehen anstelle von 100, 50 und 25 fps, dagegen 120, 60 und 30 fps zur Verfügung.)

Als Aufnahmeformat für Full HD stehen neben MP4 und AVCHD nun auch das Sony-Videoformat XAVC-S mit höherer Datenratevon 60 Mbps zur Wahl. (XAVC-S war erstmals in der A7S worden.) XAVC-S ist für 4K/UHD das einzige Format. Entsprechend hoch sind die Anforderungen an passende Speicherkarten. (XAVC-S in Full HD verlangt mindestens eine 64GB SDXC-Karte. Für 4K/UHD wird eine SDXC der Geschwindigkeitsklasse UHS-I 3 verlangt). Übrigens lässt sich per HDMI das Videosignal ohne Menü-Overlays abgreifen und mit einem externen Recorder aufzeichnen. Dann steht nochmals eine bessere, unkomprimierte Videoqualität und zudem eine «unbegrenzte» Aufzeichnungsdauer zur Verfügung, wie sie etwa bei der Aufzeichnung eines Interviews oder eines Anlasses (Konzert, Theater, Sport) Sinn machen kann.

Trotz höherer Auflösung bzw. Packungsdichte des Bildsensors lässt sich bei der neuen Kamera auch die Empfindlichkeit noch höher und zwar bis zu ISO 102’400 hoch schrauben.Die Kamera bietet nun auch eine Phasendetektion und den geräuschlosen Auslösemodus (wie A7s). Übrigens die am Vorgängermodell oftmals kritisierte, erstaunlich laute Auslösung, ist einem normal dezente Auslösegeräusch gewichen.Als Sucher dienen ein hochauflösende elektronische OLED-Sucher und ein neigbarer LCD. Dass keine Touchscreen-LCD verbaut wurde, ist bei Sony erstaunlich. Er wäre eigentlich zeitgemäss und mit der Touch-AF-Funktion auch bei gewissen Arbeitsweisen nützlich. Dass die Kamera mittels proprietären Apps erweiterbar ist, scheint zeitgemäss. Beim Blick in das spärliche App-Angebot vermag dieses indes nicht zu begeistern.

Gegenüber der professionellen NX1 ist die NX500 ein komfortables Leichtgewicht. Das Gehäuse hat die Grösse früherer NX-Modelle, wie die NX300 und die NX30, und ist damit extrem kompakt und durch die Griffausbuchtung mit der abgeschrägten Auslöserkonsole, welche den Akku enthält, sehr handlich. Mit sicherer Kamerahaltung und in Verbindung mit der optischen Bildstabilisierung sind auch unverwackelte Aufnahmen in den zum Teil düster-stimmungsvollen Pavillons ohne höchste ISO-Einstellungen möglich.Die wenigen Bedienungselemente lassen kaum vermuten, was alles an technischen Möglichkeiten in der Kamera steckt. Sie bietet nahezu alle Funktionen der grossen Schwester, wobei einige davon, die man weniger häufig braucht, entsprechend «versteckt» sind.

Das trifft auch für die neue HP Omen Pro Workstation zu, ein 15,6-Zoll-Notebook, dessen Formgestaltung von der Gaming-Variante HP Omen abstammt, das sich jedoch dadurch unterscheidet, dass die Workstation mit allen ISV-zertifizierten Produktentwicklungstools, AEC-, Medien- und Unterhaltungs-Anwendungen kompatibel ist und so mehr Stabilität und Leistung zwischen Hardware und Software gewährleistet.Schon die schwarzedle Verpackung lässt erahnen, dass sich HP mit dem Design für diese Profikundschaft besondere Mühe gegeben hat. Auch das Gerät selbst kommt mit den stark abgeschrägten Seiten und der leicht keilförmigen Formgebung sehr modisch und eigenständig daher. Hinzu kommt die spezielle Oberflächenstruktur des Gehäuses, das nicht nur schmutzabstossend und reinigungsfreundlich ist, sondern mit seinem matten Glanz eine edle Note unterstreicht. Der Deckel besteht aus mattem Kunstsoff mit einem sehr feinen und typischen Design kleiner Dreiecks-Vertiefungen. Das Gerät macht einem sehr wertigen und massiven Eindruck und zeichnet sich durch eine saubere Verarbeitung mit feinen und gleichmässigen Spaltmassen aus.

Eine Besonderheit sind die auf der Rückseite angeordneten Anschlüsse, bestehend aus 4 USB 3.0 SS-Anschlüssen, einem Mini-Display-Port 1.2, einer HDMI-Buchse, einem Kopfhörer/Mikofon-Anschluss und der Netzanschluss. Ethernet und Kensington-Lock fehlen. Der SD-Kartenleser ist praktisch auf der rechten Seite erreichbar. Die Anordnung der Anschlussbuchsen auf der Rückseite des Gerätes ergibt sich logischerweise durch die stark abgeschrägten Seitenflächen, doch lassen sie gemischte Gefühle aufkommen: Einerseits stören seitlich keine Stecker den Arbeitsplatz und den Bewegungsraum einer externen Maus, anderseits ist das Einstecken recht mühsam, weil man dazu das Gerät umdrehen oder bei Platzknappheit aufstellen muss.

Die Tastatur macht einen strapazierfähigen Eindruck und präsentiert sich mit normalgrossen Tasten und einem sicheren Anschlag. Auf einen Nummerblock muss man bei einem 15-Zoll-Gerät generell verzichten. Hingegen hat das HP Omen Pro als Besonderheit links neben der Tastatur sechs programmierbare P-Funktionstasten, die zusammen mit den Tasten fn, strg, alt und Umschalttaste über das HP Keyboard Control bis zu 30 verschiedene Programme zugeordnet werden können. Das ist sehr praktisch und ermöglicht ein schnelles Arbeiten ohne Maus und Touchpad-Zugriff.

Mit HP Keyboard Control können auch verschiedene programmierbar beleuchtete Tastaturbereiche zugeordnet werden, sowie die Beleuchtung der Lüfterschlitze auf der Rückseite des Gerätes – wohl ein Überbleibsel des Omen Gamergerätes … Eine Tastaturbeleuchtung ist recht praktisch, ob diese unbedingt farblich unterschiedlich gestaltet werden muss, ist Ansichtsache.Praktisch ist das sehr grosszügige TouchPad, das mit verschiedenen Fingerbewegungen – auch für Zwei-Finger-Pinch-Zoom, Drehen, Blätter und Bildlauf – die Bildschirmnavigation steuert.

Das 15.6 Zoll (diagonal 39.6 cm) grosse Full HD WLED hintergrundbeleuchtete Touchscreen-Display hat eine Auflösung von 1920 x 1080 Pixel, was für ein Gerät dieser Grösse in Ordnung ist. Die Farbwiedergabe ist sehr gut und dank der IPS-Technologie ist der Monitor auch sehr gut aus allen Richtungen einsehbar. Allerdings spiegelt die glänzende Oberfläche des Displays sehr stark, was sich besonders beim Arbeiten im Freien nachteilig bemerkbar macht.Die HP TrueVision Full HD WVA Webcam ist mittig oberhalb des Bildschirms angeordnet, flankiert von den beiden Mikrofonen und einer Webcam-LED. Laut HP sind mit manchen Modellen Videokonferenzen und Online-Chats über Video-Streaming möglich.

Mit dem HP Omen Pro 15 muss man auch unterwegs nicht auf eine schnelle Rechenleistung verzichten. Das Gerät gibt es in vier verschiedenen Versionen (siehe HP-Webseite) mit einem Intel Core i7-4870HQ mit Intel Iris Pro-Grafikkarte 5200 (2,5 GHz, bis zu 3,7 GHz mit Intel Turbo Boost-Technologie, 6 MB Cache, 4 Kerne) oder einem Intel Core i7-4720HQ mit Intel HD-Grafikkarte 4600 (2,6 GHz, bis zu 3,6 GHz mit Intel Turbo Boost-Technologie, 6 MB Cache, 4 Kerne) Prozessor. Die Krönung für die schnelle Bilddarstellung ist die dedizierte Grafikkarte NVIDIA Quadro K1100M mit 2 GB GDDR5 dezidiertem Speicher. Hinzu kommen bis zu 16 GB Arbeitsspeicher auf DDR3L-1600 SDRAMs sowie zwei HP Z Turbo Drive SSD-Platten mit wählbaren 256 oder 512 GB. L’evento è realizzato in collaborazione con l’Assessorato alla Ricerca, Innovazione, Energia e Tecnologie delle Comunicazioni presieduto dall’ assessore Agostino Ghiglia, ed è affiliato al progetto R2B Research to Business, il Salone Internazionale della Ricerca Industriale nato nel 2005 e coordinato da Aster, la Società consortile dell’Emilia-Romagna per lo sviluppo e la promozione dell’’innovazione e del trasferimento tecnologico.L’iniziativa – che si collega al progetto Innovation 4 Business , il programma di trasferimento tecnologico regionale avviato e promosso da CSP Innovazione nelle ICT, organismo di ricerca regionale del Piemonte e Fondazione Torino Wireless con il sostegno della Regione Piemonte – coinvolgerà oltre 40 realtà tra laboratori, università, poli tecnologici, parchi scientifici, centri di ricerca, acceleratori d’innovazione e finanziarie regionali che hanno il compito di elaborare gli strumenti e le agevolazioni finanziarie per le imprese.

Tali attori in fiera avranno il compito di presentare agli oltre 3.500 imprenditori e manager in visita la propria offerta di Ricerca Industriale al fine di realizzare partnership, fornire alta formazione a manager e imprenditori dell’industria piemontese e supportarli nella corretta comprensione delle agevolazioni e degli strumenti finanziari a loro disposizione. Un incontro, quello tra mondo della Ricerca e Industria, destinato a generare valore per entrambe le parti: da un lato le start up e i laboratori italiani vedranno valorizzata e premiata la propria attività che può così trasformarsi, attraverso l’incontro con le imprese, in un business di successo, dall’altro per gli imprenditori e manager del Piemonte, l’evento sarà l’occasione per attingere nuove idee e innovazioni dal mondo italiano della ricerca scientifica e accrescere quindi la competitività della propria impresa.

Numerosi quindi gli appuntamenti nei due giorni volti a favorire i contatti tra start up e imprese: si inizia mercoledì 8 maggio alle ore 12.00 con la prima edizione del Premio Lamarck. Il riconoscimento, che prende il nome dal naturalista Jean Baptiste Lamarck ed è realizzato in collaborazione con il Gruppo Giovani Imprenditori di Confindustria Piemonte con il coinvolgimento di Regione Piemonte e Politecnico di Torino è un tributo alle tre migliori start up del territorio volto a valorizzare le loro idee e i loro progetti innovativi affinché si trasformino in concrete occasioni di business.

Bären, Wölfe, Adler, Raben, Möwen und Maden tun sich an den verendenden Lachsen und ihren Eiern gütlich und sorgen so für ihr eigenes Überleben in den bevorstehenden Wintermonaten. Bären und Wölfe suchen sich gerne ein ruhiges Plätzchen im Wald, um die besten Bissen ihrer Beute zu verzehren. Den Rest lassen sie halbgefressen liegen. Was wiederum ein gefundenes Fressen für die Maden ist. So verrotten viele Fischkadaver mitten im Wald und werden so zu Dünger, der den faszinierenden Wald am Leben erhält. Fische werden zu Bäumen …

… und dann zu sterben. Bären und Wölfe tragen die Fischkadaver in den Wald. Oft fressen sie nur einen Teil des Fisches und lassen den Rest liegen. Der Fisch wird zu Dünger für den Regenwald. Forscher haben in grossen Tannen in 30 Metern Höhe noch Fischspuren in den Nadeln nachweisen können. Die Pazifische Nordwestküste und ich – das war Liebe auf den zweiten Blick. Strassen gibt es keine, und so bleiben nur Luft- und Seeweg, um das geheimnisvolle Land zu erkunden. Ich bin dort immer mit dem Kajak unterwegs und Wind und Wetter voll ausgesetzt. In einer kleinen Nussschale auf dem riesigen Ozean ist man sehr verletzlich.

Während der ausgiebigen Betaphase konnten die DxO-Ingenieure und -Designer in den letzten Monaten die Gewohnheiten und Erfahrungen etlicher Fotografen studieren und deren Feedback in die Optimierung der DxO ONE einfliessen lassen.
So konnte der Stromverbrauch durch Anpassung des Ruhemodus bei Inaktivität deutlich reduziert werden. Für Fotografen, die ihre DxO ONE über einen längeren Zeitraum im ON-Modus eingeschaltet lassen müssen, wie etwa bei Landschafts- oder Naturaufnahmen, kann der Akku der DxO ONE mit einer externen Powerbank auch parallel zu den Aufnahmen geladen werden.
Auch hat das DxO-Team aufgrund dieser ersten Erfahrungsberichte die Kamera in den vergangenen zwei Monaten um weitere Funktionen erweitert wie den manuellen Fokus, eine Belichtungskorrektur im Auto- und Programm Modus sowie maximale Empfindlichkeit/Belichtungszeit.

Noch vor Jahresende dürfen sich die DxO User über einige neue Features freuen, wie z.B. High-Speed RAW Bildfrequenz, Wasserwaage für Horizont, weiter optimierter Sucher und ausführliche EXIF-Informationen.Künftige Updates und kompatibles Raw-Format
Als echte «Connected-Kamera» bietet die DxO ONE ihren Besitzern immer wieder Weiterentwicklungen der Firmware und der App, die via automatischer App-Store Updates herunter geladen werden.Mac-Anwender, die OS-X-Bordprogramm «Fotos» (iPhoto-Nachfolger) nutzen, können DxO RAW und SuperRAW Daten bearbeiten, ohne das Programm verlassen zu müssen. Möglich wird dies durch eine DxO Erweiterung für «Fotos», die parallel zu nächten Version OS X (El Capitan) erscheinen wird. Nutzer von Lightroom oder Camera Raw können die RAW-Bilder, die als voll kompatible DNG-Dateien vorliegen, unkompliziert in ihrem bevorzugten Programm bearbeiten.

Abgesehen von einer besseren Bildqualität kann ich nur Nachteile sehen. Man muss zum iPhone immer noch zusätzlich mitschleppen und wer will das schon wenn im iPhone bereits eine Kamera vorhanden ist und diese für alles bis A4 Drucke ausreicht. Die meisten Fotos, gerade Portraits die man mit dem Smartphone macht bleiben auf dem Smartphone oder werden ausnahmsweise mal als 10×15 Abzug am Automaten oder eben als A4 am heimischen Drucker gemacht.Wer mehr will, will dann auch von der Bedienung mehr und da kommt man dann um eine richtige Kamera auch nicht herum. Die gibt es mit 1″ Sensor und Zoom z.B. bei der G7 X für wesentlich weniger Geld aber mit mehr Komfort und sie braucht auch nicht viel mehr Platz als dieses Zusatzgerät, dass mit seinem Preis doch sehr hoch ist, dafür dass es nicht als Stand-Alone Gerät genutzt werden kann.Das Produkt wird das selbe Schicksal ereilen wie Sonys DSC-QX100. Vielleicht nicht ganz so drastisch, da Apple User eher bereit sind für irgendwelches Zubehör noch einmal tief in die Tasche zu greifen als Android User.

Auf der IFA in Berlin baut Sony sein Heimkino-Angebot um drei neue Projektoren aus. In den neuen Modellen mit nativer 4K- bis zur Full HD 3D-Auflösung stecken ausser einer langlebigen Lampe moderne SXRD-Panels und eine Vielzahl an Funktionen, die von Kino-, Video- und Fotoliebhabern im kinoähnlichen Wohnzimmer besonders geschätzt werden.Zwei der neuen Projektoren, der VPL-VW520ES und der VPL-VW320ES, sind auf 4K-Auflösung ausgelegt. Sie sind als Nachfolger der bisherige Modelle Sony VPL-VW500ES und VPL-VW300ES mit einer neuen, langlebigen Lampe ausgestattet, die 6’000 Stunden lang scharfe Bilder mit hoher Lichtleistung und starken Kontrasten liefert.

Als erster Heimkino-Projektor überhaupt gibt der VPL-VW520ES via HDMI-Input HDR-Inhalte (High Dynamic Range) mit einem dynamischen Kontrastverhältnis von 300’000:1 wieder. Mit hohem Kontrast, satten Schwarzwerten und einem grossen Dynamikbereich kommen HDR-Bilder der menschlichen Wahrnehmung der Umgebung sehr nahe. Sony arbeitet bereits an der HDR-Unterstützung für das gesamte Produktportfolio.In den beiden neuen Modellen VPL-VW520ES und VPL-VW320ES kommen die neuen SXRD-Panels für ein natives 4K-Bild ohne künstliche Pixeloptimierung zum Einsatz. Die Sony-eigene Triluminos-Technologie ermöglicht eine satte und akkurate Farbwiedergabe. Die Motionflow-Technologie reduziert zudem Bewegungsunschärfen bei schnellen Actionszenen.

Mit dem VPL-VW520ES und VPL-VW320ES können auch aktuelle 4K-Inhalte von Streamingdiensten projiziert werden. Möglich wird das über die Anschlussoptionen im aktuellen HDMI-Standard (bis zu 4K 60p YCbCr 4:2:0 / 8 Bit) und über HDCP 2.2. Ein integrierter 3D HF-Sender erzeugt ausserdem ein starkes Funksignal für grössere Reichweite und stabile 3D-Synchronisation.Über die Kalibrierungsfunktion können Nutzer das Bild ganz nach ihrem Wunsch anpassen. Mit dem integrierten Tool zur Farbkorrektur lassen sich Farbton, Sättigung und Helligkeit jeder Farbe sowie der Farbraum für Rot, Grün und Blau ganz an persönliche Wünsche anpassen.

Neu auf der IFA vorgestellt wird ausserdem der VPL-HW65ES mit SXRD-Paneltechnologie und der zweiten Generation von Sonys Reality Creation für ein Full HD-Heimkino-Erlebnis zu einem erschwinglichen Preis. Der Sony VPL-HW65ES profitiert ebenfalls von einer sehr langlebigen Lampe mit rund 6’000 Betriebsstunden, einem integrierten HF-3D-Sender sowie einer USB-Update-Funktion, mit der die Firmware stets auf dem neuesten Stand gehalten werden kann. IP-Steuerung sorgt für eine flexible Integration in die Heimautomatisierung, während die kompakte Grösse und der stirnseitige Lüfter vielseitige Installationen ermöglicht.

But the game’s popularity has created unintended consequences in everyday life, from annoyed property owners dealing with hordes of monster hunters to store owners using the game to attract customers. Though perhaps that’s to be expected from a game that has players visit real-world landmarks such as train stations, churches and museums in order to find and trap cartoon creatures.
Here’s a look at some of the bigger questions that have emerged since the game went live last Wednesday:

An Atlanta cafe owned by digital ad agency Huge turned out to be roughly 30 feet away from two prominent "Pokestops” — game representations of physical landmarks where players can stock up on digital game gear. So it spent about $40 in real money to add digital "lures” to the stops, refreshing them every 30 minutes. The lures increase the chance that rare Pokémon with names like "Starmie” and "Poliwag” turn up nearby — drawing players in turn.
"Our corner was essentially lit up all day long,” says Huge executive creative director Derek Fridman.

Phoenix police are telling people not to trespass while playing the game. New York’s subway is warning people not to jump onto the tracks to chase digital "Rattatas.” The National Safety Council implored players not to play and drive.
The US Holocaust Memorial Museum in Washington D C called playing the game inside its walls "extremely inappropriate” and is trying to remove itself from the game. At The Associated Press bureau in Los Angeles, an outdated reference to a statue no longer on the property beckons Pokémon players in from the street.

Todd Richmond, a director at the Institute for Creative Technologies at the University of Southern California, says a big debate is brewing over who controls digital assets associated with real world property.
"This is the problem with technology adoption — we don’t have time to slowly dip our toe in the water,” he says. "Tenants have had no say, no input, and now they’re part of it.”
Stock in Nintendo, which part owns Pokémon Go jumped 25 percent on Monday and another 13 percent Tuesday, adding nearly $8 billion to its market value as investors assessed the breakout game.
But Jefferies analyst Atul Goyal says that’s just the beginning. He now targets a share price of 30,000 yen, or $286.40, nearly a third higher still. Nintendo is transitioning from console games to smartphone games, and "it has just started that journey,” Goyal says.

Travaillant à Haïti dans le domaine des secours et du développement, je me suis vu proposer d’innombrables fois, par les institutions bureaucratiques peu familières avec la culture et les incongruités du terrain, des solutions théoriques aux maux endémiques de ce pays. De la même façon, peut-être avons nous, en raison de la vision étriquée issue de notre culture puritaine et basée sur le châtiment, celle-là même qui est à l’origine de la guerre contre la drogue, nous avons perdu tout sens pratique, et vendu notre âmes à la théorie. Elle a déclaré qu’à choisir en matière de confiance entre le gouvernement et les cartels, elle votait El Chapo. Et dans ce tweet, elle a exprimé un rêve, peut-être une incitation à El Chapo lui-même:

Pourquoi ne brûlez vous pas tous ces bordels où les femmes valent moins qu’un paquet de cigarettes ? Sans offre, il n’y a pas de demande. Allez, Don! Vous seriez le héros national. Trafiquons avec l’amour. Vous savez faire !La vie est un commerce et la seule chose qui change est la marchandise. N’êtes-vous pas d’accord ? «

Même si elle a été ostracisée par beaucoup, le sentiment de Kate est largement partagé au Mexique. Il est repris dans les ballades corrido-narco si populaires dans tout le pays. Mais son point de vue, contrairement aux racontars, est une continuité de son passé d’opinions courageuses et de rêves optimistes pour son pays natal. Le même avocat est venu la voir de nouveau, cette fois à travers l’équivalent mexicain du syndicat des acteurs, et le seigneur de la drogue emprisonné et l’actrice ont commencé à correspondre par écrit et par BlackBerry Messenger

C’est lors d’une soirée mondaine à Los Angeles que Kate a rencontré Espinoza. Elle a appris qu’il était bien en contact avec des financiers, y compris pour financer des projets de films, et elle lui a proposé un partenariat pour faire un film sur El Chapo. C’est alors qu’Espinoza a contacté notre collègue et ami mutuel El Alto. J’ai appris leur intention de faire le film, mais je ne connaissais ni Kate ni sa participation au projet. Ils se sont réunis tous les trois avec l’avocat d’El Chapo pour explorer leur approche du film, mais il a finalement été décidé que l’accès direct à El Chapo serait encore trop restreint pour que leur projet soit au-dessus de la pile d’autres projets concurrents sur El Chapo qu’Hollywood aurait poursuivi avec ou sans sa participation.
Puis vint l’évasion d’El Chapo en Juillet 2015. Le monde entier, et en particulier le Mexique et les États-Unis, était indigné. Comment cela pouvait-il arriver?! La DEA et le Ministère de la Justice étaient furieux. En ayant refusé l’extradition d’El Chapo vers les États-Unis, puis autorisé son évasion, le secrétaire de l’Intérieur mexicain Miguel Ángel Osorio Chong ainsi que l’administration Peña Nieto étaient présent considérés comme des parias mondiaux.
« Il ne fait aucun doute dans mon esprit, que le DEA et le gouvernement mexicain ont surveillé chacun de nos mouvements. »

Je suivais les nouvelles de l’évasion de El Chapo et ai contacté Espinoza. Nous nous sommes rencontrés dans la cour d’un hôtel de charme à Paris à la fin Août. Il m’a dit à propos de Kate et qu’elle avait reçu par intermittence des contacts d’El Chapo même après son évasion. Ce fut alors que je lançais l’idée d’une story pour un magazine. Espinoza fit un sourire malicieux, indiquant qu’il prendrait des dispositions pour que je puisse rencontrer Kate à Los Angeles.
Dans un restaurant de Santa Monica, j’ai exposé mon plan, et Kate a accepté de faire le lien et d’envoyer nos noms au-delà de la frontière. Quand la réponse est arrivée, une semaine ou deux plus tard, que Chapo avait en effet accepté de nous rencontrer, j’ai appelé Jann Wenner chez Rolling Stone Magazine. L’economia di Mobile e Apps ha superato i 25 miliardi di euro: vale l’1,6% del PIL. Ma salirà a quota 40 miliardi nel 2016 (per conquistare il 2,5% del Pil), trainata dal Mobile Commerce (m-commerce) e dai pagamenti wireless (Mobile Payment). Avranno, ciascuno, un giro d’affari da 6 miliardi di euro. A fine 2014, in Italia, gli smartphone si attesteranno a 45 milioni di unità, i tablet a 12 milioni, secondo l’Osservatori ICT del Politecnico di Milano. Gli italiani che navigano su Internet Mobile supereranno i 30 milioni ogni mese; le nuove reti LTE sono destinate a coprire circa il 60% della popolazione.
Le vendite dei contenuti digitali (giochi, news ecetera) da smartphone e tablet nel 2013 registrano un incremento di oltre il 30% (Mobile Content) mentre il Mobile Commerce o m-commerce di beni e servizi triplica in valore. Sono in aumento del 23% le imprese e pubbliche amministrazioni (PA) pronte ad investire in soluzioni software Mobile; per il Mobile Marketing l’incremento è del 73%. A sostenere le imprese nell’innovazione ci sono oltre 600 startup finanziate a livello internazionale nel 2013 e le cui attività si svolgono nel mercato Mobile.

Un navigatore da dispositivo Mobile su 3 ha scaricato Applicazioni a pagamento sul proprio Smartphone e uno su 5 ha comprato almeno un prodotto o servizio; 4 su 5 interagiscono con l’advertising da device mobile e uno su 2 vorrebbe adoperarlo anche come strumento di pagamento al posto della carta di credito: "Questa domanda ha abilitato opportunità innumerevoli per le imprese per gestire via Mobile la relazione con i propri consumatori e per automatizzare e rendere più efficienti i propri processi aziendali. Sta sviluppandosi quindi una nuova porzione di economia che chiamiamo Mobile & App Economy e che nel 2013 vale già 25,4 miliardi di €, pari all’1,6% del PIL” afferma Andrea Rangone, Coordinatore Osservatori ICT del Politecnico di Milano. "Questo mercato è destinato a crescere significativamente nei prossimi anni arrivando a raggiungere i 40 miliardi di €, pari al 2,5% del PIL, grazie soprattutto alla spinta generata dall’utilizzo crescente di soluzioni di Mobile Commerce e Mobile Payment”.

Sono 37 milioni gli smartphonein mano a utenti italiani e 7,5 milioni i tablet, ma saliranno rispettivamente a 45 di smartphone e 12 milioni di tablet a fine 2014. Le reti mobili a banda larga LTE a fine anno si diffonderanno presso circa il 60% della popolazione. Nell’arco del 2013 offerte bundle (voce, messaggistica, connettività) a prezzi molto contenuti; le Applicazioni disponibili negli store hanno raggiunto i 2,5 milioni e crescono le soluzioni Mobile realizzate all’interno delle imprese o delle pubbliche amministrazioni.

"Tra gli effetti generati sul consumatore dalla maturità dell’ecosistema Mobile è stato riscontrato anzitutto un incremento del tempo trascorso dagli italiani su Internet dai Mobile device, che sottrae quote alla navigazione da Pc: stiamo parlando di 75 minuti medi giornalieri per lo Smartphone e 66 per il Tablet contro i 106 minuti (-14% sull’anno precedente) del Pc portatile” afferma Guido Argieri, Telco & Media Director Doxa. "La maggior parte delle attività (circa la metà nel caso dei Tablet e addirittura due terzi nel caso degli Smartphone) è svolta tramite Applicazioni piuttosto che siti Web. Oltre a Social, Gaming, Meteo e Mappe, tra le Applicazioni scaricate dagli utenti ci sono anche quelle delle imprese di cui loro sono consumatori: al primo posto troviamo le Applicazioni legate a trasporti e viaggi, seguite da quelle del settore finanziario e da quelle dei retailer dell’elettronica di consumo.”

L’impatto economico generato dall’ecosistema Mobile
La Mobile & App Economy, che nel 2013 vale già 25,4 miliardi di euro e rappresenta l’1,6% del PIL, è destinata a crescere. L’85% dei Mobile surfer vede advertising e il Mobile Couponing si fa strada. Oltre l’80% della Mobile & App Economy deriva dai consumi diretti: consumatori e imprese complessivamente hanno sborsato oltre 20 miliardi di euro. La restante parte dipende dagli investimenti delle imprese in reti mobili, nello sviluppo di soluzioni software Mobile destinate ai consumatori o ai propri dipendenti, in soluzioni Internet delle Cose per ottimizzare i processi aziendali o offrire nuovi prodotti e servizi e in attività di Marketing attraverso dispositivi mobili (Mobile Marketing).

I servizi tradizionali delle Telco (cioè Voce e Sms) sono però sotto forte pressione: la flessione è dovuta al successo di Whatsapp, Bbm e Facebook Messenger. Le Tlc ricavano poco più di un quinto dalla vendita dei device e il 13% dalla Connettività Dati; si fermano alle briciole le vendite di contenuti e di beni e servizi, mentre non è partito il mercato del Mobile Payment. Ma da qui al 2016, il mercato del Mobile Commerce passerà dagli attuali 1,2 miliardi ad oltre 7 miliardi di euro nel 2016. L’M-commerce che oggi pesa per il 12% sull’eCommerce, tra 3 anni potrebbe superare il 40%.Il mercato del Mobile Proximity Payment, e cioè dei pagamenti in prossimità fatti con lo Smartphone, esploderà nel 2016: fra due anni potrebbe valere circa 4 miliardi di euro. Anche il mercato dei Mobile POS, ovvero le transazioni legate a beni e servizi accettate da dispositivi Mobile (Smartphone e Tablet), potrebbe valere circa 2 miliardi di euro nel 2016.

Nascerà un mercato abilitato dagli "oggetti intelligenti”. Parliamo di auto connesse (Smart Car), il cui mercato nel 2016 varrà 1,6 miliardi di euro (+80% in 3 anni). Ma sarà la Wearable Tech con gli oggetti intelligenti indossabili a generare lo sviluppo di soluzioni nuove in ambiente cittadino e sanitario: "A questi effetti diretti della Mobile & App Economy sul PIL, si potrebbero aggiungere diversi altri benefici indiretti – commenta Marta Valsecchi, Responsabile della Ricerca. – Alcuni esempi sono: l’aumento di produttività dei Mobile worker (stimabile nel 2013 nell’ordine di grandezza dei 10 miliardi di euro sulla forza lavoro italiana); l’impatto positivo dell’utilizzo dei canali informativi Mobile sulle vendite offline; l’effetto benefico del Mobile nell’allargare la base di utenti Internet, cioè nel ridurre il digital divide italiano.”

In questo scenario, spiccheranno le startup, in grado sia di creare nuovi modelli di business diretti al consumatore finale, sia di sostenere le aziende nel loro processo di trasformazione digitale e Mobile. Sono oltre 600 le startup finanziate a livello internazionale in questi ambiti già nel 2013.Raddoppieranno, nei prossimi 3 anni, le vendite di Contenuti fruiti tramite Mobile: giochi e video traineranno il mercato.Cresceranno gli investimenti aziendali in Marketing tramite smartphone e tablet, guidato in particolare dall’Advertising mobile, ma anche dalla nascita dei servizi di Mobile Couponing. Le imprese si concentreranno nello sviluppo di soluzioni software Mobile: da un lato, per gestire la relazione con i propri consumatori; e dall’altro, per migliorare la produttività e l’efficacia del lavoro dei propri dipendenti, soprattutto quelli in mobilità. Nel 2016 raddoppieranno gli investimenti delle imprese rispetto al 2013.

IN PROVA e SLIDESHOW – Immaginate di avere a disposizione un disco con un terabyte di spazio per condividere con gli amici su più smartphone e tablet film e contenuti in Wifi, senza rinunciare a navigare e senza bisogno di alimentazione elettrica. Avremmo gradito la disponibilità di serie nella confezione di più accessori a un prezzo decisamente più basso. Folio 1040 G1 a seconda dei modelli è disponibile infatti a partire da 1.400 euro. La nostra configurazione però sul sito Hp a listino costerebbe circa 2800 euro. Per fortuna online si trova anche a molto meno. Buona idea sarebbe stata anche quella di fornire una configurazione direttamente sul sito di HP Italia con almeno una distribuzione Linux preinstallata, proprio considerato l’ambito di utilizzo. Configurazione peraltro prevista sul corrispettivo sito americano con SuSE Linux Enterprise o FreeDOS 2.0.MSI GS70 Stealth (2OD-059IT), un laptop di livello per giocare con una dotazione hardware in grado di soddisfare qualsiasi esigenza. Batterie Asus F50Gx

Sans entrer dans la catégorie des PC portables gamers très haut de gamme, souvent vendus entre 1 500 et 2 000 € (voire beaucoup plus), ce Lenovo Ideapad Y700 se présente comme une machine de jeu tout à fait honorable, grâce à la présence d'une GTX 960M en guise de carte graphique. Nous sommes cependant loin d'une machine hors de prix, puisque cette configuration testée (Intel Core i5, SSD de 128 Go + HDD de 1 To, 8 Go de RAM) peut se trouver aux alentours de 900 €. Un rapport qualité/prix qui semble donc très intéressant.

Le Lenovo Ideapad Y700 fait partie de ces PC portables pour joueurs qui ont le bon goût de ne pas donner dans les néons et les courbes agressives. Au lieu de ça, on découvre un châssis noir et tout à fait sobre, mélangeant matière "soft-touch" (autour du clavier) et aluminium brossé (pour le capot). On trouve tout de même quelques touches de rouge, essentiellement au niveau des haut-parleurs et du clavier. L'ensemble reste toutefois discret. Vue de profil, la machine affiche malgré tout un certain côté "gamer", notamment en raison de sa partie arrière biseautée, laissant entrevoir un bout des haut-parleurs et les ventilateurs.Enfin, en ce qui concerne le filtre, il est de belle qualité et Vax en fournit un de rechange. Logé sous le capot du collecteur et pourvu d'une languette pour le sortir, il est lavable, opération que Vax conseille de réaliser toutes les 4 utilisations. Cette fréquence est assez importante et cela ne nous surprend pas, car le système de filtration montre quelques limites. Comme le montrent nos tests, et plus spécifiquement celui d'aspiration de cacao, le filtre se salit et récolte pas mal de poussières.Sur sol dur, il s'en sort mieux turbo-brosse activée, bien que Vax conseille de l'utiliser sur les tapis et moquettes. Dans cette configuration, il a récolté 98 % de nos matières de test. Sur moquette fine, là encore, nous avons activé la turbo-brosse et il a ramassé 95 % de matières, ce qui représente un score correct mais pas faramineux. Sur ce sol assez "facile", la plupart des modèles s'en sortent mieux (98 % pour le Dyson DC62 et 99 % pour l'Electrolux UltraPower Plus).

Enfin, sur moquette épaisse à poils longs, la surface la plus difficile de nos tests, il s'en sort finalement mieux, récoltant 89 % en 30 s, puis 95 % en 1 min puis la totalité en 2 min. Il faut tout de même passer plusieurs fois au même endroit pour obtenir une surface nette.Ce balai est très bruyant : 81 dB, quels que soient les sols et même sans activer la turbo-brosse. Il est d'autant plus gênant que le son émis est aigu. Nous réalisions nos mesures d'autonomie sur le palier quand nos collègues sont sortis déjeuner, s'exclamant : "c'est toi qui fais ce raffut ? On pensait qu'il y avait des travaux !". Tout est dit.Nous avons mesuré une consommation de 36 W en charge et 0,7 W lorsque l'accu est chargé. L'importante consommation en charge est largement tempérée par la faible consommation en veille et la rapidité de la charge.

La charnière de l'écran ne couvre pas toute la longueur, mais seulement le milieu. Celle-ci semble assez solide, mais l'on a tout de même peur qu'une multitude d'ouvertures/fermetures n'entame la durée de vie de la machine. Le clavier est de type chiclet et propose de touches à la forme typique de la marque Lenovo. On profite donc d'une partie inférieure légèrement arrondie. La frappe est assez agréable et précise, mais la course reste un peu courte, surtout pour un format 15 pouces. Le touchpad bénéficie d'une bonne glisse, mais sa taille est un peu juste. Il reste toutefois agréable à utiliser.Côté connectique, on reste dans du classique : 2 ports USB 3, 1 port USB 2, un lecteur de carte SD, une sortie HDMI et une prise combo casque/micro.Le Lenovo Ideapad Y700 est une machine qui chauffe peu. Après une heure de stress-test, on constate un point chaud de 41,1 °C à l'avant et de 40,8 °C à l'arrière. Ces bons chiffres s'accompagnent d'une ventilation tout à fait discrète, puisque l'on ne dépasse pas les 40 dB en jeu.

Le Lenovo Ideapad Y700 est équipé d'une dalle mate de 15,6 pouces, affichant une définition Full HD (1 920 x 1 080 px). C'est un format intéressant, à la fois suffisamment confortable pour jouer et assez compact pour que la machine soit facilement transportable.D'une manière générale, la qualité de cet écran est assez bonne. Le taux de contraste de 970:1 reste très correct et la visibilité est bonne, malgré une luminosité un poil juste (220 cd/m²). Le fait de proposer en plus une dalle mate permet donc une très bonne lisibilité. Le bilan colorimétrique est lui aussi satisfaisant, sans toutefois atteindre la perfection. On relève ainsi un Delta E (écart entre les couleurs réelles et les couleurs affichées, considéré comme très bon en dessous de 3), qui monte ainsi à 5,9, mais une température des couleurs de 6 360 K, soit un chiffre très proche de la norme à 6 500 K. On profite donc d'un rendu assez fidèle et équilibré, ni trop chaud ni trop froid. La courbe de gamma manque cependant de stabilité, avec notamment des blancs un peu trop brûlés.

La configuration reçue en test comprend un processeur Intel Core i5-63700HQ, 8 Go de mémoire vive, une carte graphique Nvidia GeForce GTX 960M, un SSD de 128 Go et un disque dur de 1 To.Côté processeur, nous avons ici affaire à un Intel Core i5-6300HQ. Il s'agit d'un processeur doté de 4 cÅ“urs et proposant des fréquences variant de 2,3 à 3,2 GHz. C'est en tout cas un processeur amplement suffisant pour travailler et jouer dans de bonnes conditions, comme le montre notre indice de puissance, basé sur une série de benchmarks.
En pratique, donc, ce Lenovo Ideapad assure donc sur de très nombreuses tâches : bureautique avancée, retouche photo et montage vidéo léger, surf sur le Web... L'expérience est garantie sans anicroche. On profite également d'un Windows 10 fluide et rapide, qui démarre en 10 secondes et s'arrête complètement en 17 secondes.

Une GeForce GTX 960M de Nvidia officie comme carte graphique pour ce Lenovo Ideapad Y700. Cette dernière est équipée de 2 Go de GDDR5. Son GPU se retrouve régulièrement sur les PC portables gamers de milieu de gamme et permet de profiter de performances très honorables dans les jeux. Si nous sommes tout de même assez loin de la puissance d'un GTX 970M, et encore plus de celles d'une GTX 980M, la 960M permet de jouer dans de bonnes conditions à des jeux récents, en Full HD, à condition de baisser le niveau de détails graphiques dans les options.
En pratique, nous avons relevé les résultats suivants en jeu (définition Full HD, niveau de détails au maximum) : 45 images par seconde sur Tomb Raider, 39 i/s sur Battlefield 4, 24 i/s sur The Witcher 3, 31 i/s sur Metro Last Light ou encore 15 i/s sur Crysis 3.

Ce Lenovo Ideapad Y700 est un 15 pouces assez volumineux et épais. Avec 2,6 cm d'épaisseur et 2,6 kg sur la balance, il a bien du mal à lutter contre le Dell XPS 15 ou le MSI GS60. On reste tout de même dans le type de machines facilement transportables, à condition d'avoir un sac de bonne taille et solide.L'autonomie est quant à elle assez moyenne : notre test de lecture sous Netflix (sous Chrome, luminosité à 200 cd/m², casque branché a tourné pendant 4h23, ce qui correspond également à l'endurance de la machine dans le cadre d'un usage plus polyvalent, mélangeant Web et bureautique. En jeu, pas de miracle, comme bien souvent, il sera difficile de jouer plus d'une heure.

Petite originalité, le Lenovo Ideapad Y700 est équipé d'un caisson de basses sous le châssis, qui est censé améliorer légèrement la qualité du rendu sonore. Les haut-parleurs délivrent un son plutôt bon, surtout pour un PC portable de cette catégorie (graphique ci-dessous). On ressent bien la stéréo et le caisson sous le châssis permet de profiter d'un peu de basses. Les médiums et les hauts médiums sont bien présents, ainsi qu'un poil d'aigus. Bref, même si nous évidemment loin d'une expérience sonore inoubliable, l'effort est notable.

La sortie casque est pour sa part de bonne qualité, avec une distorsion faible (0,01 %) et une puissance de sortie élevée (180 mVrms). L'ensemble du spectre sonore est ici bien restitué.
En 2015, HP nous a très agréablement surpris avec le Spectre x360, un laptop convertible très bien fini, puissant et endurant. La firme américaine ne pouvait décemment pas s'arrêter en si bon chemin et décline donc sa machine en version 15 pouces. Au programme : même design, même puissance, mais diagonale d'écran plus confortable.

But if it causes companies like Intel to stop developing things like low-power laptop processors and instead shift their focus to cloud and IoT products, I have to wonder if there will still be low-cost, low-power laptops in the future.Here's a case in which you can judge a notebook by its cover. The Yoga 900s ($1,099 as tested) claims to be the thinnest convertible on the market, with stunningly slim edges and an eye-catching design that looks like it belongs in a jewelry store. The 900s is more than just a pretty piece of machinery, too, with a crisp 1080p touch display, a cozy keyboard and enough battery life to get through a workday. While you can find better processor performance on competing ultraportables, the Yoga 900s' combination of fashion and function is hard to pass up.
If a luxury watchmaker were to take a crack at building a laptop, the result would probably look a lot like the Lenovo Yoga 900s. The notebook's black-and-gold design is immediately arresting, largely thanks to the bedazzled, Rolex-esque hinge that allows the notebook to be flipped and folded into a variety of useful modes.

That first-class sense of style extends to the keyboard deck, where the notebook's stunning gold keys are surrounded by a layer of textured, soft-touch material that's as elegant as it is cozy. Our Yoga's carbon-fiber outer chassis is all gold, though there's also a silver option.Lenovo touts the Yoga 900s as the world's thinnest convertible laptop, and this device sure looks the part. At just 0.5-inches thin and an airy 2.2 pounds, Lenovo's notebook is a breeze to carry around. The Yoga is even more stylish than Apple's sleek, 12-inch MacBook, which is also just a half-inch thick and weighs a feathery 2 pounds. The Dell XPS 13 is a bit heavier, at 2.9 pounds, but tapers down to just 0.33-inches thin, while the 2.65-pound, 0.5-inch-thin HP Elite x2 is about on par with the Yoga.
While the Yoga's slim edges leave little room for ports, the notebook squeezes a ton of functionality out of its few connections. The right side hosts a power button, headphone/mic jack and USB 3.0 port, while the left edge posts a USB-C port that can connect to external displays, as well as a charging port that doubles as a standard USB 2.0 connection when you're not juicing the machine up. When you're not using the Yoga as a normal laptop, you can bend the display back to turn the device into a tablet; the rear keys will automatically disable to prevent any accidental strokes. You can also put the laptop into Stand mode to get a better look at a presentation, or Tent mode for kicking back with a movie.

When watching a trailer for X-Men: Apocalypse on the notebook, I noticed tons of details in the stubbly faces of Magneto and Professor X. Mystique's scaly blue skin really popped, as did Psylocke's bright pink plasma sword.

However, the Yoga's 1080p display doesn't quite boast the color representation of many of its competitors, reproducing a modest 73 percent of the rRGB color gamut. That's not too far from the Elite x2 (85 percent), but way behind the MacBook (107 percent) and XPS 13 (103.6). If you want a richer palette, you should spring for the QHD version of the 900s.

The Yoga 900s' screen registered an impressive 320 nits of brightness on our light meter, just barely trailing the MacBook's 12-inch, 2304 x 1400 display (327 nits) and the XPS 13's 13-inch quad-HD screen (336 nits). Lenovo's notebook topped the Elite x2's 12-inch, 1080p display, which registered 315 nits.
The Yoga's stereo speakers are decently crisp, but not nearly loud enough for properly rocking out to your favorite tunes. The razor-sharp guitars and shouty vocals of Thrice's "Blood in the Sand" came through clearly, but bass was hard to hear, and the song became a bit muddy during the track's intense choruses. Listening to Kendrick Lamar's "King Kunta" was a largely similar experience; the rapper's raspy delivery was preserved nicely, but the track's normally booming bass was almost impossible to pick out.

You can play with the Yoga's sound output in the included Dolby Audio app, which contains presets for movies, music, games and voice. There's also a dynamic setting that automatically adjusts to whatever you're playing, as well as an equalizer for those who want to fine-tune the sound.

Pen Performance
The Yoga is designed for seamless note-taking, with support for digitizer pens that have 2,048 levels of pressure sensitivity. I used the PC with a few of our in-house styli, and found that writing out notes and taking quick doodles felt responsive and natural.
Unfortunately, the Yoga doesn't ship with a pen of its own; you'll have to pay an extra $40 for Lenovo's Active Pen. Even if you buy a pen, the Yoga has no dedicated slot for storing your stylus when you're done using it.

Keyboard and Touchpad
The Yoga 900s is a joy to type on, thanks to a set of quiet, yet snappy island keys and a wonderfully cozy soft-touch wrist rest. Shallow keys normally cramp my hands (the Yoga's are just 0.6mm deep), but I never experienced any major discomfort on the Yoga's layout, even as I sped through the Key Hero typing test at 111 words per minute with perfect accuracy.
The smooth surface of the Yoga's 3.5 x 2.4-inch touchpad made it easy to navigate web pages and perform multifinger gestures. However, the touchpad's click button is stiff, which made dragging and dropping kind of a pain. On top of that, the pad's matte coating made pinching to zoom a little less smooth than I'd like.

Performance and Graphics
Packing a 1.1-GHz Intel Core m5-6Y54 processor with 4GB of RAM, our Yoga 900s was mostly capable of juggling a whole bunch of tasks at once, but this configuration isn't nearly as fast as some of its main competitors. I didn't experience any issues when bouncing among web pages or crunching away at a Google Doc, but by the time I had 12 tabs open as I watched multiple Twitch streams and ran a system scan, there was some noticeable lag when switching between tasks.
The Yoga 900s netted a 5,343 on the Geekbench 3 performance test, trailing the Core m5-powered MacBook (5,906), the Core i5-6200U-powered XPS 13 (6,374) and the Core m5-6Y54-powered HP Elite x2 (5,769). It's worth noting that you can step up to a Core m7 CPU and 8GB of RAM on the Lenovo for just $50 more, as of this writing, which also includes 256GB of storage.

Lenovo's laptop wasn't the fastest of the bunch on our spreadsheet test, taking 5 minutes and 9 seconds to match 20,000 names to addresses. The MacBook took a much zippier 3:11, and both the XPS 13 (4:2 and Elite x2 (4:37) performed a little better. The Yoga's 128GB SSD took 47 seconds to copy about 5GB of files, which is a transfer rate of 106.98 MBps. That's slower than the MacBook's 512GB SSD (355.9 MBps), the XPS 13's 256GB SSD (159 MBps) and the Elite x2's 256GB SSD (147.89 MBps).

The Intel HD 515-powered Yoga continued to trail the competition when we switched to graphics tests. The laptop notched a 579 on the 3DMark Fire Strike test, trailing the XPS 13's 783 (Intel HD 520) and the Elite x2's 780 (Intel HD 515). You can count on the Yoga to get you through a long flight or workday, as the machine lasted a strong 8 hours and 46 minutes on our battery test (web surfing over Wi-Fi). That's longer than the Elite x2 (6:54) and the touch-screen XPS 13 (8:0 , but not quite as enduring as the MacBook (9:3 or the nontouch XPS 13 (11:54).
While the Yoga can last most of the day, it can also get a bit too warm for comfort. While the laptop's touchpad heated up to a manageable 89 degrees Fahrenheit after 15 minutes of streaming Hulu, the keyboard and underside rose to a toasty 99 and 103 degrees, respectively. Those are both above our 95-degree comfort threshold.

Akku Acer NV7906u

Iconia InternetAuch Acer hat die Bedeutung des Internet für das Iconia als Surfmaschine durchaus erkannt. Neben dem Capture genannten Tool für Screenshots gibt es auch noch WebClip, mit dem sich Webseitenteile für MyJournal ausschneiden lassen. MyJournal ist wieder über den Acer-Ring erreichbar und stellt so etwas wie ein privates Internet zusammen. Ähnlich wie in einem Feed-Reader kann man sich interessante Artikel, Bilder oder Videos auf Webseiten mit Web Clip ausschneiden und in MyJournal verfügbar machen. Bei jedem Start von MyJournal werden die Inhalte auf Änderungen überprüft, die Artikel sind also dynamisch. Auf diese Weise kann man sich zum Beispiel die neuesten Artikel in den Lieblingsblogs oder ausgewählte Zeitungs-Rubriken anzeigen lassen. Leider sind diese Web Clip-Inhalte nicht dynamisch genug, dass sich wirklich der ganze Artikel darstellen ließe. Mein Versuch, einen langen Artikel komplett in MyJournal zu übernehmen, indem ich die untere Schnittfläche immer weiter nach unten gezogen habe, endete damit, dass ich nur den unteren Teil des Artikels übernommen hatte. Immerhin kann man aber auf diese Weise schnell nachsehen, ob es auf den Lieblingsseiten Neuigkeiten gibt und muss dann halt per Doppelklick den Browser öffnen, um alles zu lesen. Das Ausschneiden per Webclip funktioniert übrigens nur im TouchBrowser, der dafür eigens gestartet werden sollte.

Acer RingSchließlich bietet Acer über den Ring auch noch den Social Jogger an. Im dreigeteilten Fenster des Programms kann man sich seine sozialen Aktivitäten gebündelt ansehen. Leider unterstützt der Social Jogger derzeit nur Facebook, YouTube und Flickr. Warum zum Beispiel Twitter fehlt, hat sich mir nicht erschlossen. Dafür funktioniert die Anwendung bei den drei sozialen Netzwerken problemlos und verschafft ähnlich wie MyJournal einen schnellen Überblick über alle wichtigen Änderungen. Für kurze Antworten genügt dann auch die virtuelle Tastatur des Iconia Dualscreen.

Iconia GelenkZu den unrühmlichsten Kapiteln des Iconia gehört die Akkulaufzeit, was möglicherweise bei einem Gerät, das wegen des vergleichsweise hohen Gewichts und der fehlenden 3G-Schnittstelle ohnehin nicht zu den mobilsten gehört, aber vernachlässigt werden kann. Und nicht zuletzt die zwei Touchscreens ziehen den Akku natürlich auch schnell leer. Als Desktop Replacement hingegen kann man ja den Stecker drinlassen und anderthalb Stunden hält das Iconia auf dem Balkon schon mal aus. Etwas verdattert war ich aber doch, als sich das Iconia das erste Mal nach vergleichsweise kurzer Zeit einfach ausschaltete und sich erst mit dem Stromkabel wieder reanimieren ließ. Andere Notebooks warnen einen da wenigstens vor. Zumindest hat das Acer Iconia aber die gesamte Sitzung noch gespeichert, bevor es sich selbst heruntergefahren hat. Nach dem Aufladen konnte ich dann an derselben Stelle fortfahren, an der sich das Iconia ausgeklinkt hatte, mit allen geöffneten Programmen und „ungespeicherten" Inhalten. Auch ein Wechsel des Akkus ist nicht möglich, um die Laufzeit zu verlängern.

Die Bedienung des Acer Iconia ist ungewohnt und daher gewöhnungsbedürftig. Daher hat Acer gut daran getan, im Acer-Ring einige Funktionen einzubauen, mit der man die Bedienung individuell besser anpassen kann. Dazu gehört zum Beispiel die Device Control, mit der man die Einstellungen für die Anzeige ändern kann oder die oben schon vorgestellte Virtual Keyboard-Anpassung. Ein weiteres Feature ist der Gesture Editor, mit dem sich eigene Gesten für Programm-Schnellstarts eingeben lassen. Dazu muss man das zu startende Programm auswählen und dann die Geste zweimal im Editor eingeben. Danach kann man die Geste auch noch üben. Ich habe versucht, auf diese Weise den Chrome-Browser zu einem Schnellstart zu bewegen, was mir aber nicht so recht gelungen ist. Obwohl ich während des Übens praktisch immer vom Programm die Rückmeldung bekam, die Geste sei verstanden worden, war dies in der Praxis dann kaum der Fall. Ich musste meine selbst gewählte Geste mindestens 10x ausführen, bis Chrome endlich startete. Diese Erkennungsrate ist deutlich zu niedrig, insbesondere wenn man berücksichtigt, dass ich die Geste unmittelbar danach wieder eingegeben habe, den Schwung der Bewegung also noch „in der Hand" hatte. Die Geste bestand auch nur aus einem C-Zeichen, was nicht übermäßig schwer zu verstehen sein sollte.

Iconia DualscreenKeine Frage, beim Acer Iconia handelt es sich um eines der interessantesten Geräte dieses Jahres, wenn nicht das interessanteste. Interessant genug, dass ich das Iconia in der Testwoche einmal zu Freunden mitgenommen und ihnen einfach zum Antesten auf den Tisch gestellt habe. Die Reaktion war bei allen dieselbe. Zunächst interessiertes Erstaunen, dann aber doch sehr schnell Ernüchterung. Und was mache ich jetzt damit? Am positivsten blieb noch eine befreundete Japanerin, die vom Grundkonzept zweier Touchscreen-Monitore zwar begeistert war, nun aber dafür geeignete Software-Anwendungen vermisste, die gezielt beide Screens nutzen könnte.
Insgesamt konnte ich bei allen, die das Iconia in der Hand hatten, eine gewisse Hilflosigkeit ausmachen, die ich bei mir selbst auch feststellen konnte. Wofür braucht man ein Acer Iconia? Zum Mitnehmen ist es nicht mobil genug, also kann ich es nur zu Hause verwenden. Als „Schreibmaschine" und Arbeitsgerät ist es aber wegen der schlechten virtuellen Tastatur auch nicht zu gebrauchen. Videos sehen auf dem Display zwar gut aus (falls man vorher die Fettflecken entfernt hat), auf einem großen Fernseher oder Monitor sehe ich mir Filme aber lieber an. Bleibt also als einzige sinnvolle Verwendung die Nutzung als Zweitrechner zum Surfen im Internet und ein wenig Social Jogging. Das ist nicht viel an Funktion, und das bei einem Gerät, das rund 1500 Euro kosten soll. Hinzu kommen als Negativpunkt einige kleine Bugs in der Bedienung, die aber hoffentlich mit den ersten Firmware-Updates ausgebessert werden. Meistens kann man bei den beiden Screens zumindest, wenn der eine Weg nicht funktioniert, über einen anderen zum Ziel kommen.

sicherlich nicht gelandet, aber zumindest eindrucksvoll seine Ambition unterstrichen, als Computerhersteller auch technologisch zu den führenden Unternehmen zu gehören. Ich fühlte mich dennoch mit dem Iconia ähnlich wie in einer Design-Ausstellung. Ich kann den ungewöhnlich geformten Stuhl zwar voller Begeisterung betrachten, beim Gedanken daran, ihn bei mir zu Hause aufzustellen, nehme ich aber schnell Abstand, weil ich weiß wie unbequem man darauf sitzt. In 10-20 Jahren wird das Acer Iconia Dualscreen in den Computer- und Designmuseen der Welt stehen – als skurriles Beispiel für den Touchscreen-Wahn der frühen 10er-Jahre.
Eigentlich war schon der erste Mac 1984 prinzipiell portabel: ein All-in-one-Gerät, versehen mit einem Griff am Gehäuse und in einer Tragetasche geliefert, das man relativ bequem mitnehmen konnte. Ganz im Sinne von Steve Jobs, der einmal meinte: „Traue keinem Computer, den du nicht bewegen kannst." Dennoch sollte ein echter Apple-Laptop noch ein bisschen auf sich warten lassen. Denn als Jobs im Frühjahr 1986 einen batteriebetriebenen BookMac entwickeln lassen wollte, konnte er den Apple-Vorstand nicht von dem Projekt überzeugen. Und im Herbst desselben Jahres verließ Jobs dann das Unternehmen. Erst drei Jahre später, am 20. September 1989, brachte Cupertino den Mac Portable auf den Markt.

Mit einem Preis von rund 6500 Dollar war er doppelt so teuer wie der Mac SE – bei fast identischer Rechenleistung. Der im Mac Portable verbaute 68HC000-Prozessor von Motorola war auf 16 MHz getaktet, als Arbeitsspeicher stand 1 MByte RAM zur Verfügung. Der hohe Preis erklärte sich durch die üppige Ausstattung, vor ­allem das Display sorgte für Furore. Apple hatte dem Portable ein Aktiv-Matrix-Display mit einer Auflösung von 640 x 400 Pixeln spendiert. Die damals neue Technik war in der Produktion noch sehr aufwändig und entsprechend teuer. Dafür genossen Besitzer eines Mac Portable ein kristallklares Bild ohne Schatten und Nachleuchten. Die vollwertige Tastatur wurde durch einen Trackball ergänzt. Ebenfalls alles andere als selbstverständlich war der integrierte Akku des Portable. Anstelle von gängigen Nickel-Cadmium-Akkus verbaute Apple Bleisäure-Akkus, deren Bauweise Autobatterien ähnelte und die mit einem Ladegang zehn bis zwölf Stunden Stromversorgung sicherstellten. Allerdings trug der Akku einen nicht unerheblichen Teil zum Gewicht des portablen Macs bei: Rund sieben Kilogramm wog der Rechner.

Damit war er zur mobilen Nutzung wenig geeignet. So waren etwa Klapptische in Flugzeugen und Zügen für diese Belastung nicht ausgelegt – sie brachen einfach unter dem Gewicht zusammen. Und mit dem Gerät auf den Knien zu arbeiten war wenig sinnvoll, da der Sichtwinkel des Displays hierfür zu gering war. Abhilfe schaffte erst eine überarbeitete Version mit Hintergrundbeleuchtung, die 1991 auf den Markt kam, und noch.im selben Jahr wurde die Produktion des Geräts eingestellt. Zwei Jahre später trat das PowerBook 100 die Nachfolge an – ausgestattet mit demselben Prozessor wie der Mac Portable. cg
Drei neue Werbespots von Apple aus der unendlichen Get a Mac-Reihe antworten auf Microsofts Werbekampagne. Lauren und andere Schnäppchenjäger haben sich in den Microsoft Spots meist für ein HP-Notebook enstchieden. Der Mac habe zu wenig Speicher oder einen zu kleinen Bildschirm für den Preis. Die drei folgenden Apple-Clips tragen die Namen PC Choice, Elimination und Customer Care.
(Carsten) Je älter ein Notebook wird, desto mehr Gebrauchsspuren machen sich bemerkbar. Kratzer, abgestoßene Ecken, abgenutztes Plastik. Irgendwann ist ein Notebook dann auch kein Luxusobjekt mehr, sondern ein Gebrauchsgegenstand. Aber es ist ja nicht so, dass man sich damit abfinden muss.

Denn im Netz gibt es unzählige Anbieter von Aufklebern für Laptops. Doch sein wir einmal ehrlich – Meistens sehen diese Aufkleber schlimmer aus, als Kühe mit Durchfall.
Doch in den Weiten des Netzes bin ich auf eine Seite gestoßen, die wirklich coole Aufkleber anbietet. Da komm ich schon ins grübeln, ob ich mein dreckiges Notebook nicht ein wenig pimpen sollte.

Batterie HP Pavilion N5452

Les travaux se concentreraient autour de la technologie classique lithium-ion (la plus utilisée aujourd'hui), mais les ingénieurs planchent également sur d'autres approches comme l'électrolyte solide.En avril dernier, c'était des scientifiques de Stanfordon qui ont fait parler d'eux en réussissant à mettre au point une batterie fonctionnelle aluminium-ion. Cette dernière ne manque pas d'atouts : l'aluminium est plus écologique que le litium, son utilisation permet de plier la batterie, d'allonger son endurance et de réduire le temps pour la recharger : une minute pourrait suffire, le rêve pour tout mobinaute qui se respecte.Autres avantages : une propension à moins chauffer (et donc à s'enflammer), un point de plus en prégnant dans nos smartphones, et un coût unitaire réduit.La batterie présentée peut délivrer une tension de 2 volts et supporter 7500 cycles de charge, une première avec l'aluminium. Rappelons que les batteries traditionnelles "tiennent" environ 1000 cycles.

L'équipe dirigée par le chimiste Hongjie Dai explique avoir réussi cette percée accidentellement en constatant que le graphite fournissait d'excellentes performances lorsqu'il était associé à l'aluminium, dit dans un communiqué l'université de Stanford. Bref, cette approche concentre pour le moment que des avantages mais la question reste toujours la même en matière de R&D : à quand un passage industriel, les annonces dans le petit monde des batteries étant nombreuses mais les concrétisations finalement assez rares. TÉLÉVISION - L'équipe La Tribu, formée par une famille de Napierville, est au cÅ“ur de la nouvelle émission «Bing Bang» qui explore l'univers des derbys de démolition au Québec. Le premier épisode sera diffusé le 24 mars, à 21 h, sur la chaîne Historia. Bing Bang fait une incursion dans l'univers méconnu des derbys de démolition à travers trois équipes, dont la formation napiervilloise La Tribu.De la préparation des voitures en passant par la première course de Zachary Poupart, alors âgé de 11 ans et même la demande en mariage d'Yvon à Chantal, Bing Bang réserve des collisions spectaculaires, mais surtout un monde à découvrir.

Chantal Labrie et son conjoint Yvon Poupart, leurs deux enfants Zachary et Yohan, ainsi que Marc-André Bard, un ami de la famille, sont les cinq membres de La Tribu.Ces adeptes de la tôle froissée ont été approchés par le réalisateur Sylvio Jacques en septembre 2014. Ce dernier faisait du repérage au derby de démolition de Napierville.Le projet d'une nouvelle émission de dix épisodes s'est concrétisé en février 2015. Il a nécessité environ 13 jours de tournage, entre juin et septembre 2015.

Cette passion pour les collisions, les membres de La Tribu la partage depuis 2009. À priori, rien ne les destinait à la pratique de ce sport, jusqu’à ce que Chantal Labrie entraine son conjoint à assister à sa première course de démolition.«J'y suis allé et après j'ai dit à Chantal que l'année suivante ce serait moi derrière le volant», raconte Yvon Poupart.«Le parent est assis à côté d'eux et on met des blocs sur les pédales», explique M. Poupart. Chantal Labrie ne participe pas aux courses, mais elle y assiste à chaque fois.Elle met aussi la main à la pâte pour la préparation des voitures. «Juste à les voir faire, je suis plus raquée qu'eux le lendemain», confie-t-elle.

Plusieurs vieilles voitures sont entreposées dans la cour des Poupart. Elles attendent d'être modifiées en vue de courses à venir. L'entreprise Recyc-Auto, de Napierville, leur fournit les bolides. Yvon et Chantal ont transformé leur ancienne maison en garage. Les voitures sont modifiées dans ce qui était autrefois leur chambre à coucher!L'équipe investit entre 10 et 50 heures de travail pour modifier une voiture en prévision d'une course. Le gagnant d'un derby de démolition est le dernier dont l'automobile circule toujours. C'est la raison pour laquelle la batterie et le réservoir d'essence doivent être retirés et installés à l'intérieur du véhicule afin d'être mieux protégés.Les autos plus récentes sont munies de plusieurs ordinateurs qui les rendent vulnérables aux impacts. Ils doivent souvent être déplacés pour éviter que la voiture ne s'arrête brusquement après une collision.

Le tapis, inflammable en cas d'incendie, est retiré. Ils fixent aussi la carrosserie à l'armature de la voiture, ils ajoutent des barres de métal sur les portes et derrière les sièges pour protéger les occupants. Enfin, ils doublent les pneus pour éviter les crevaisons.Lors du passage du Coup d'Å“il, l'équipe se préparait en vue de sa participation à un derby de démolition qui aura lieu le 16 avril, au stade olympique de Montréal, dans le cadre du spectacle Monster Spectacular.Ils ont choisi une Limousine Town Car blanche. «La même que celle d'Elvis Gratton!» conclut M. Poupart, sourire en coin.Le premier épisode de Bing Bang sera diffusé le 24 mars à 21 h. Un visionnement de groupe du premier épisode aura lieu au bar Le Voyageur, à Napierville, à compter de 20 h. Le cas échéant, l'entreprise conseille de la retirer en attendant de recevoir une batterie de remplacement. Le PC peut être utilisé au moyen d'un adaptateur secteur.

Les avancées scientifiques sont le produit de recherches intenses, de protocoles complexes, de rudes efforts. Et parfois c'est une question de coup de bol. Prenez Mya Le Thai, étudiante en chimie de l’université de Californie. C'est en réalisant une expérience destinée à améliorer la résistance des batteries au lithium qu'elle a découvert de manière totalement fortuite une nouvelle méthode révolutionnaire.Les nano-fils positionnés dans les batteries lithium sont de la taille du micron. (Source : UCI)Ordinateurs, smartphones, tablettes ; les batteries au lithium sont partout et leur durée de vie est bien connue : entre 5 000 et 7 000 cycles en moyenne. Ensuite, la batterie décède. Allonger leur durée de vie est donc un véritable enjeu. Et les chercheurs de l’université de Californie travaillaient sur l'implantation de nano-fils sur ces batteries pour améliorer leur résistance. Sans succès. Car ces fils sont très fragiles, et ne permettent pas d'allonger véritablement le nombre de cycles de charge.

"Mya (...) a enduit (les nano-fils) d'une couche de gel très mince et a commencé (l'expérience)" explique Reginald Penner, président du département de chimie de l'UCI. "Elle a découvert que juste en utilisant ce gel elle pouvait refaire le cycle des centaines de milliers de fois sans perdre de capacité." De fait, on passe alors de 7 000 cycles à 200 000 cycles, au minimum. L'expérience inopinée à bien sûr été renouvelée par l'équipe de recherche. Le nano-fil d’or a été placé dans une enveloppe de dioxyde de manganèse, et le lithium a été remplacé par un gel électrolyte. De quoi se rendre compte que les 200 000 cycles ne produisent une dégradation des performances de la batterie de... 5%.

De nouveaux tests sont en cours afin de mieux comprendre les causes de cette incroyable durée de vie. « Pour l’instant nous n’avons pas encore tout compris du fonctionnement de ces batteries » explique le responsable de la recherche Reginald Penner. 1. Oubliez l'"effet mémoire"
Il est fini le temps où il fallait bien sagement attendre que la batterie soit vide pour la recharger complètement. Les batteries lithium ne fonctionnent pas comme celles au nickel. Il n'y a plus de phase d'"apprentissage" où, à la toute première utilisation, il fallait vider totalement la batterie puis faire une charge complète dans la foulée. Cet "effet mémoire" n'est plus valable. En revanche, il est conseillé de conserver une batterie chargée aux alentours de 40-80 % si vous en avez la possibilité. Aller jusqu'à l'extrême limite des 0 % n'est pas bon (exception faite d'une fois par mois environ).

Die nachfolgende Liste beinhaltet alle Notebooks, die mit potenziell betroffener Batterie ausgestattet sind. Nicht aufgeführt sind Akkus, die als Zubehör erworben wurden – sollte das bei Ihnen der Fall sein, empfiehlt HP ebenfalls eine Prüfung.
Aus dem Hause Teclast wirft ein neues Tablet seine Schatten voraus. Es geht um das X16 Pro, bei dem ordentlich Hardware verbaut wurde – unter anderem ein riesiger Akku. Es kommt mit Windows 10 und Android und kann auch als Tablet verwendet werden. Das Teclast X16 Pro ist ein Tablet mit einer Größe von 11,6 Zoll. Auf dessen IPS-Display werden 1920×1080 Pixel angezeigt – also die Full-HD-Auflösung. Als Prozessor kommt der Intel Cherry Trail T4-Z8500 Prozessor zum Einsatz, der planmäßig mit 1,44 GHz läuft, sich aber bis auf 2,24 GHz beschleunigen kann. Außerdem sind 4 GB RAM und 64 GB Flash-Speicher verbaut. Letzterer kann per Micro-SD-Karte um bis zu 128 GB erweitert werden.

Besonders auffällig ist der riesige Akku, der im Gerät steckt. Er bietet eine Kapazität von 32.300 mAh – etwa dreimal so viel wie vergleichbare Tablets. Per Magnet-Dock kann eine Tastatur angeschlossen werden, die das Gerät zu einem Laptop macht. Auch ein Touchpen wird unterstützt für Zeichnungen. Beides ist aber nicht im Lieferumfang enthalten.Vorinstalliert ist sowohl Windows 10 als auch Android 5.1. Beim Start könnt ihr auswählen, welches System gebootet werden soll, getreu dem Motto: Das richtige Betriebssystem für den jeweiligen Einsatzzweck.

Ihr könnt das Teclast X16 Pro ab sofort vorbestellen. Bei Gearbest läuft der Vorverkauf noch bis zum 31. Juli. Der Preis liegt regulär bei etwa 250 Euro. Gebt ihr den Gutscheincode „ProGB02" an, kostet es euch nur 230 Euro.Egal ob Handy, Tablet oder Notebook – mobile Geräte halten abseits der Steckdose nur so lange durch, wie es die Akkumulatoren, besser bekannt als Akkus, erlauben. Die Leistung dieser wieder aufladbaren Batterien lässt früher oder später nach, irgendwann geben sie ganz den Geist auf. Doch wer einige grundlegende Hinweise beachtet, kann die Leistung und Lebensdauer seiner Akkus deutlich steigern.«Die Lebensdauer ist abhängig von der Zellchemie der verwendeten Akkumulatoren und der Art der Nutzung», erklärt Jürgen Ripperger vom Verband der Elektrotechnik (VDE). Heute werden in Smartphones und Tablets vor allem Lithium-Ionen-Akkus verwendet, die meist rund drei Jahre oder 500 bis 1000 Ladezyklen unbeschadet überstehen.

In manchen alten Handys oder Schnurlostelefonen stecken auch noch Nickel-Metallhydrid-Akkus (NiMH). Egal welcher Akkutyp zum Einsatz kommt: «Die Hersteller der Geräte geben in ihren Bedienungsanleitungen umfassende Informationen für einen sicheren und langlebigen Einsatz der eingesetzten Akkumulatoren», sagt Ripperger. Doch wie kann ein Akku überhaupt Schaden nehmen? «Es gibt drei Aspekte beim Betrieb von Akkus, die die Lebensdauer nachhaltig beeinflussen: Temperatur, Laderate und Ladebereich», erklärt Jens Tübke, Abteilungsleiter für Angewandte Elektrochemie beim Fraunhofer-Institut für Chemische Technologie (ICT). «Die ideale Betriebstemperatur liegt zwischen 10 und 35 Grad Celsius», sagt Ripperger.

Was den meisten nicht klar sein dürfte ist, dass auch der Ladebereich relevant ist: «Man sollte möglichst in einem Bereich zwischen 40 und 85 Prozent nachladen», rät Jens Tübke. Ein Lithium-Ionen-Akku muss nicht immer randvoll geladen werden. 2. «Batteriefresser» erkennen
Um die Akkus von Tablets, Smartphones und Laptops im Alltagsgebrauch zu schonen, sollte man auch den Energieverbrauch im Blick behalten. «Die Akkulaufzeit über den Tag lässt sich vor allem verlängern, wenn nicht benötigte Features ausgeschaltet werden, wie starke Display-Beleuchtung, WLAN-Suche oder Bluetooth», sagt Ralf Trautmann vom Telekommunikationsportal Teltarif.de. Aus dem gleichen Grund sollten ungenutzte Datenträger oder Geräte abgezogen und ungenutzte offene Programme geschlossen werden.

Bei der Lagerung von Akkus und Geräten mit eingebauter wiederaufladbarer Batterie sollte man den Ladezustand und die Temperatur beachten: «Möglichst in einem Temperaturbereich zwischen 15 und 25 Grad Celsius und bei einem mittleren Ladezustand von 40 bis 60 Prozent», rät Tübke.3. Ebenso gelte es, die Laderate zu beachten, also den Lade- und Entladestrom im Verhältnis zur Akku-Kapazität. Schnellladefunktionen, die immer beliebter werden, sollte man deshalb besser nicht benutzen.

4. Vorsicht vor zu viel Sonne und Hitze im Sommer
Akkus sollte man vor direkter Sonneneinstrahlung schützen und Smartphones etwa im Hochsommer nicht im Auto liegen lassen. 5. Laptops nicht am Stromkabel hängen lassen
Akkus können übrigens Schaden nehmen, wenn Geräte wie Notebooks oder Smartphones dauerhaft am Stromnetz hängen: Dabei können sich die Batterien erhitzen und an Lebensdauer einbüssen.

6. Mythos Memory-Effekt: Sollte der Akku vor dem Laden vollständig entladen sein? Nein!
Auch das komplette Entladen ist keine Regel mehr, die für Lithium-Ionen-Akkus gelten würde. Im Gegenteil: Eine ständige Nutzung am unteren Rand verkürzt die Lebensdauer ebenso wie dauerhaft hohe Ladestände, erklärt Ralf Traumann. Vor der sogenannten Tiefenentladung schütze bei den modernen Akkus aber ein Batterie-Managementsystem: «Nutzer kennen das zum Beispiel von Smartphones, die ab einem bestimmten niedrigen Ladezustand das Handy herunterfahren.»

Ausserdem können gerade Lithium-Ionen-Akkus brandgefährlich werden. Man sollte keinesfalls ihre Anschlusspole kurzschliessen oder sie mechanisch überlasten, weil sonst Feuergefahr besteht. Immerhin: Den einstmals bei Nickel-Cadmium-Batterien (NiCd) gefürchteten Memory-Effekt gibt es bei den neuen Lithium-Ionen-Akkus nicht mehr, sagt ICT-Forscher Tübke.Lithium-Ionen-Akkus liessen sich jederzeit wieder nachladen – auch wenn sie nicht vollständig entladen sind. «Oftmals wird beim Erstbetrieb das ein- bis zweimalige vollständige Auf- und Entladen empfohlen, um die volle Kapazität nutzen zu können, dagegen spricht nichts, es ist aber auch nicht immer erforderlich.»

ASUS U35JC Notebook Battery

The design is completely original and refreshing, so no one’s going to tell you the design is derivative of all the aluminum clad laptops you see these days. There’s even a slick new version of the HP logo on the lid.
That said, while the design is eye-catching, it’s undeniably blingy and if you’re not sold on the coppery-gold finish, HP doesn’t have a sober alternative for you. Ergo, it’s not for everyone. Plus it’s a fingerprint magnet, and catches every speck of dust and fingerprint dirt in a two kilometer radius. I’m kidding, but you get the picture. With its slim dimensions, the obvious comparison is with the Core-M3 powered Apple MacBook, but the Spectre 13 really takes the portability of these dimensions and marries it with stuff found on the MacBook Air - a full sized keyboard, Intel’s more powerful Core i5 and i7 processors and a 13.3-inch full HD display.

The variant I tested (Rs. 1,39,990) was no pushover, which I chalk up to the sixth-generation Intel Core i7 chip and the 8GB of RAM it ships with. Everyday tasks are a breeze and the combo makes short work of the large number of browser tabs I usually work with. 512GB SSD storage is nice, but expected at this price point. Understand this, the Spectre is by no means a gaming machine, but it’s more than capable of pretty much anything else you’d want to throw at it. It doesn’t break a sweat, either. The 13.3-inch display on the Spectre is a full HD number, and while it wont break any pixel density records, it’s plenty sharp for the screen size and is bright to boot. The design of the hinge doesn’t allow the screen to tilt back a lot, which was bit of an issue, and while the screen has Gorilla Glass 4 for protection, the display isn’t a touchscreen, which is a bit odd for a top-end Windows 10 laptop.
Redemption is by way of an excellent backlit keyboard with keys that have real travel, which is good for a laptop this slim. The smooth glass touchpad has plenty of room and a great feel when clicking.

The slim profile means HP forgoes the full-sized USB ports in favor of USB-C for wired connectivity, but you get three ports where the MacBook has just the one. You can recharge with the bundled adapter through any of the ports, and two of the three ports support the Thunderbolt standard to push external 4K monitors.
Let’s face facts, USB-C is still new on PCs so if you want to use Ethernet, VGA, HDMI or a regular USB port, you’re going to carry along the additional USB-C dongles for each (HP includes these four adapters in the box).
What’s Bad? In pursuit of the "thinnest laptop” title, HP has managed to steer clear of some compromises, not all. Despite packing in Bang & Olufsen branded speakers, audio is tinny and treble heavy.
As I mentioned, no touchscreen is a bummer but I’m more disappointed with the average battery life on the Spectre 13. HP claims 9 hours and 45 minutes, I got between 5 and 6 on a daily-use basis. If you’re at a desk all day, this wont matter, but if you’re out and about, the shiny new laptop may die on you towards the end of your work day.

Of course, the sticker shock means that only those with deep pockets are going to consider this laptop, and while I’m not going to be able to justify dropping a lakh and forty grand on this (there’s a Core i5 variant for Rs. 99,990), you get plenty for your money. HP’s design and engineering has ticked off a lot of checkboxes with the Spectre 13 – sleek design, great keyboard, good display and no-compromise performance. The Spectre 13 is a Palo Alto lightweight that can go head-to-head with Apple and win some rounds against the Cupertino heavyweights.

More importantly, it’s a solid daily computer and one of the best we’ll see in the Windows camp this year, if your budget can stretch that far.

When you innocently say the words "integrated graphics” to those who play PC games, don’t expect a positive response. Or for them to not laugh in your face. Graphics processor units (GPUs) that are combined with central processing units (CPUs), often called iGPUs, have a bad reputation, especially when compared with standalone GPU beasts, like Nvidia’s latest, $700 Geforce GTX 1080. iGPUs are usually found in portable computers and generally aren’t powerful enough to handle the latest games. But Intel is making moves to redefine the expectations surrounding iGPUs and its most up to date offering aims to back up its claims.

This May, Intel has demonstrated how far their iGPUs have come by releasing the newest and fastest generation of their Next Unit of Computing, or NUC. Dubbed Skull Canyon, the box is only eight inches wide, four inches deep, and a little under an inch tall, and is home to a full size i7 quad core processor. Not limited by the delicate power requirements of a laptop battery, the processor can go full bore to rival speeds found in traditional desktop PCs when needed."Four and half years ago now, Intel was doing desktop motherboards,” said Bruce Patterson, marketing manager at Intel. "We challenged our engineering team with almost a science project: what was the smallest motherboard you could create that had Intel Core processor on it? That was the genesis for NUC.”

The magic in the NUC is built into the processor: the Intel Iris Pro 580. It is the most equipped integrated graphics chip from Intel yet. It’s the sequel to the Iris Pro Graphics 6200. It boasts way more computing units and has dedicated memory that can be used just for graphics processing—minimizing the need to use slower, shared memory with the CPU.Intel claims that iGPUs of this caliber can replace the need for low end video cards for many mainstream gamers.I understand if I wanted the ability to game without the huge footprint, I could get a console. If I wanted to have a small video player, the Apple TV and other media players were options. But nothing could perform the productivity tasks and has the flexibility of a full PC while maintaining a small desk footprint.Having the option of not lugging my giant tower—which I’ve always been terrified of dropping— around to LAN parties and maintaining performance beyond a very high end laptop was also really attractive to me.

The Skull Canyon NUC doesn’t necessarily change the landscape for big budget, blockbuster releases which bring the best video cards to their knees, but are those really what the vast majority of people play on a daily basis? The top games currently on Steam are Dota 2, Counter-Strike: Global Offensive and Team Fortress 2. When I wrote this, that counted for over 1.5 million players.From my experience with the computer, the games that see the most amount of play worked perfectly. Frame rates exceeded a hundred per second on CS:GO and TF2.Combined with the two M.2 solid state drive connections and up to 32gigs of DDR4 RAM, this thing boasts the same power you’d find in a full-sized desktop tower. Except for the obvious exception: the lack of a dedicated GPU.

But that is becoming less of a problem as developers are shifting their focus to the lower powered set-ups. I spoke to Blizzard, creators of the new arena shooter Overwatch, which hit 7 million players in its first week."Initially when we started Overwatch, our main goal was to ensure that everyone at recommended spec or higher running at high settings would get 60 frames per second (FPS),” said John Lafleur, one of the technical directors who worked on Overwatch. "That left us a lot of headroom for lower-end systems.”Blizzard has always had a history of supporting every type of PC setup. Overwatch certainly continued this trend."I actually have a NUC at home,” said Lafleur. "I brought it in and we spent a lot of time looking at a wide variety of systems. We wanted to support as much as graphics hardware as we could. We didn’t really think we could go as low as we could, but we ended up supporting a decent amount of the Intel hardware out there.”

Overwatch was a completely playable 30+ FPS and MOBAs like League of Legends and Dota 2 ran smoothly and reliably on the the Skull Canyon.A negative of the entire setup is the cost. Even after you purchase the tiny computer, you still need to pick up RAM and a solid state hard drive. That’s going to set you back around $1,000 including the NUC, more in Canada where I am. You can purchase a console or a well budgeted, but much larger, PC with a much more powerful dedicated GPU for that price, or less.Today’s mid-range CPUs are more than enough for mainstream games, meaning an effective graphics processor gives you much more bang for buck.
My suggestion for Intel would be to follow a trend in the r/buildapc subreddit: using a low end CPU combined with high-end graphics equipment. If the chip’s architecture allowed for a lower end CPU to be combined with the Iris Pro graphics, like a dual core i3 or i5, I think you’d see very similar performance for a lower entry point.

The Skull Canyon NUC was already in development when more chips with the Iris Pro 580, such as the i5-6685R, were released. Rian Lawson, product review manager at Intel, told me over email they could not include it in the NUC, but there was hope for what would come next."Assuming market demand exists as we anticipate, we would look to continue to offer similar products in the future and will continue to listen to customer feedback,” said Lawson.We’re on the verge of built-in graphics processors becoming a reliable alternative to expensive graphics cards for most gamers. Even now, millions of Overwatch, Counter-Strike, and League of Legends players can get by without a discrete GPU.

Accu Dell Inspiron 1425

De MacBook Pro is het high-end model in de populaire notebookreeks van Apple. Het apparaat is erg populair door de combinatie van uitstekende specificaties en een prachtig, slank design. De MacBook Pro werd in 2006 geïntroduceerd en was aanvankelijk alleen beschikbaar in een 15 inch-model. Later kwam daar een 17-inch versie bij. Deze werd enkele jaren geleden echter uit de schappen gehaald en in oktober 2012 vervangen door een 13 inch-model.Op deze pagina laten we je zien welke modellen momenteel verkrijgbaar zijn en op welke fronten ze van elkaar verschillen. Naast de MacBook Pro heeft Apple ook de MacBook Air en de in 2015 geïntroduceerde MacBook in zijn portfolio.

Asus presenteert drie nieuwe gadgets: een laptop die een 'Macbook-killer' is, een metalen smartphone zonder opvallende antennestrepen aan de achterkant én een komische thuisrobot.De Taiwanese fabrikant Asus heeft op de Computex-beurs een aantal nieuwe producten getoond. Daaronder is de rijdende robotassistent Zenbo, die mensen dagelijks in huis moet assisteren. De robot werkt samen met verschillende apparaten in huis, zoals beveiligingscamera’s en slimme deursloten.

Hij wordt bestuurd met spraakbediening en via het scherm dat op zijn 'gezicht' zit. Zenbo zou heel bruikbaar voor kinderen en senioren zijn. In de productvideo hieronder is te zien hoe de robot familieleden kan waarschuwen als er een oudere valt. En dat je ermee kan videobellen. Zenbo kost 599 dollar, maar welke talen hij ondersteunt en in welke landen hij uitkomt, is nog niet bekend.

Asus wil ook de strijd aangaan met de MacBook van Apple met zijn nieuwe laptop, de ZenBook 3. De fabrikant benadrukt dat het apparaat lichter en dunner is dan de MacBook. Zo weegt de ZenBook 3 slechts 910 gram (de nieuwe MacBook is 920 gram) en is hij slechts 11,9 millimeter dik (de MacBook is 13,1 mm). Het scherm is 12,5 inch en heeft een resolutie van 1920 bij 1080 pixels. Op een volle accu moet de ZenBook 3 negen uur mee gaan.

Opvallend is ook dat de nieuwe ZenBook met Windows 10 een vingerafdrukscanner aan boord heeft. De laptop is beschikbaar met maximaal een Intel Core i7-processor, 16GB aan werkgeheugen en een ssd tot 1TB. Hij komt in drie kleuren: blauw, goud en grijs met een adviesprijs vanaf 999 dollar. Daarvoor krijg je het model met i5-processor, 4GB werkgeheugen en een 256GB-ssd.

Zenfone 3 zonder antennestrepen
Asus claimt verder de eerste smartphone gemaakt te hebben met aluminium unibody zonder zichtbare antennestrepen op de achterkant. Deze vind je op vrijwel alle smartphones met een metalen behuizing, omdat de kunststof strepen ervoor zorgen dat de telefoon verbinding kan maken met het mobiele netwerk. Deze signalen worden geblokkeerd door metaal.

Het bedrijf presenteerde drie forse toestellen: een ZenFone 3 met 5,5-inch scherm, een ZenFone 3 Deluxe met 5,7-inch scherm en een ZenFone 3 Ultra met 6,8-inch display. Alleen de Deluxe-versie heeft een oled-scherm.

De drie toestellen hebben dezelfde resolutie van 1920 bij 1080 pixels. De ZenFone 3 en ZenFone 3 Ultra hebben een Snapdragon 652-processor, de Deluxe-versie heeft een Snapdragon 820. De ZenFone 3 heeft een 16 megapixel-camera, de andere twee doen het met een 22,5 megapixel-camera. De ZenFone 3 Ultra heeft een enorme 4600 mAh-accu, de standaard ZenFone 3 en de Deluxe doen het met een 3000 mAh-accu.Of de toestellen naar Nederland komen is onbekend. Er zijn wel dollarprijzen: de ZenFone 3 kost vanaf 249 dollar, de Deluxe vanaf 499 dollar en de Ultra is vanaf 599 dollar te koop.

Tijdens de Zenvolution-persconferentie, een dag voor de start van de Computex-beurs, onthulde ceo Jonney Shih de nieuwe Zen-producten, die niet allemaal van de derde generatie zijn, maar wel het getal drie gemeenschappelijk hebben: de Zenbook 3, de Zenfone 3, en de Transformer 3 en 3 Pro.

De Zenbook 3 is de nieuwste ultrabook in Asus’ bekende Zenbook-serie. Bij de Zenbook 3 heeft Asus de nadruk gelegd op het bouwen van extreem dunne hardware. Het is tegelijk weer een 'dure' Zenbook met krachtige hardware, in tegenstelling tot de Zenbook UX305, die geïntroduceerd werd met een bescheiden hardwareconfiguratie, maar ook een bijbehorende prijs van 750 euro. Tijdens de presentatie vergeleek Shih de Zenbook 3 meer dan eens met de MacBook en de MacBook Air van Apple, waarmee deze Zenbook 3 de concurrentie moet aangaan.

We hebben de Zenbook 3 kort kunnen proberen en op het eerste gezicht lijkt het inderdaad een laptop te zijn waarvoor de concurrentie zijn borst mag natmaken. Wat meteen opvalt, is hoe ongelofelijk licht de laptop aanvoelt en hoe klein de behuizing oogt. Het gewicht is met 910 gram nog een stuk lager dan dat van de UX305, die met 1209 gram al niet bijster zwaar was, en is vergelijkbaar met dat van Apples MacBook, die 920 gram weegt. Dankzij de dunne schermranden lijkt de Zenbook in eerste instantie op een 11,6”-laptop, maar de schermdiagonaal van het ips-scherm is in feite 12,5”. De metalen behuizing doet sterk denken aan oudere Zenbooks, zoals de UX31A, waarbij de buitenkant van het scherm iets bol staat en waarbij het aluminium uiteraard in de kenmerkende Zen-cirkels geborsteld is.

Het scherm heeft een resolutie van 1920x1080 pixels en is voorzien van de vierde generatie Gorilla Glass. Asus meldt verder nog dat het scherm 72 procent van de ntsc-kleurruimte kan weergeven. Dat is een wat vreemde aanduiding, want ntsc is een standaard voor analoge televisie, die sinds 1954 in Noord- en Midden-Amerika gebruikt werd. Het volledige srgb-kleurenbereik, dat min of meer de standaard is voor computers, past in 72 procent van de ntsc-standaard, dus is het aannemelijk dat Asus dat bedoelt. In dat geval is het scherm niet bijzonder, maar gewoon goed.

Hoewel er al 4k-schermen met de Adobe rgb-kleurruimte op een diagonaal van 12,5" zijn, hangt de keuze voor een full-hd-scherm waarschijnlijk samen met het energiegebruik. Of je die accuduur haalt, hangt natuurlijk helemaal van de belasting van de hardware af en die is gezien de geringe dikte van de laptop niet verkeerd. Asus monteert een Core i5- of i7-processor in de Zenbook 3, wat opvallend is, want andere extreem dunne laptops of tablets zijn over het algemeen voorzien van een zuinigere Core M-processor, die dan ook passief gekoeld kan worden. Asus koelt de hardware van de Zenbook 3 actief, met een ventilator die slechts drie millimeter dik is. Daarnaast is er in de duurste versies 16GB geheugen op 2133MHz aanwezig, terwijl ook gekozen is voor een ssd die via pci-express communiceert, met een maximale leessnelheid van 1709MB/s.

De dunne behuizing draagt natuurlijk bij aan het lage gewicht, maar heeft ook wat nadelen. Er is minder ruimte beschikbaar voor aansluitingen en het typcomfort gaat er over het algemeen niet op vooruit. De Zenbook 3 heeft dan ook slechts één aansluiting: een usb-c-connector, aan de rechterkant van de behuizing, terwijl er links alleen ruimte is voor een 3,5mm-jack-aansluiting.
