In den überarbeiteten Axim-Modellen wird die WindowsCE-Version Windows Mobile 5.0 verwendet, was einem verbesserte Office-Applikationen für die Bearbeitung von Word-, Excel- und PowerPoint-Dokumenten beschert. Natürlich gehören auch PIM-Applikationen zur Termin- und Adressverwaltung sowie ein E-Mail-Client, Web-Browser und MP3-Player zum Lieferumfang.In Deutschland wird Dell den Axim X51 in den drei genannten Ausbaustufen mit deutscher Oberfläche erst zu einem späteren Zeitpunkt auf den Markt bringen. Derzeit sind die Versionen nur mit englischsprachigem Betriebssystem zu bekommen.Der Axim X51v mit VGA-Display wird dann 451,- Euro kosten, während das mittlere Modell "Axim X50 520 MHz" für 393,- Euro zu haben ist und das Einstiegsmodell "Axim X50 416 MHz" ohne WLAN im Preis bei 324,- Euro liegt. Zusätzlich fallen Versandkosten von rund 15,- Euro an.

Aldi-Süd bietet in der kommenden Woche ein Tri-Band-Handy mit Digitalkamera, MP3-Player, UKW-Radio und Speicherkartensteckplatz für miniSD-Cards zum Preis von 149,- Euro an. Das Tevion-Modell steckt in einem Gehäuse mit Schiebemechanismus, so dass es durch kompakte Maße punkten kann. Aldi-Handy Die im "Tevion Multimedia Handy" eingebaute CMOS-Digitalkamera knipst Fotos mit einer Auflösung von maximal 640 x 480 Pixeln und zeigt sie auf dem Display mit maximal 65.536 Farben. Für musikalische Unterhaltung sorgt ein eingebautes UKW-Radio sowie ein MP3-Player, der Musikstücke auch von einer Speicherkarte abspielt. Dazu bietet das 88 x 44,5 x 23 mm messende Taschentelefon einen miniSD-Card-Steckplatz.Als Tri-Band-Handy agiert das Tevion-Modell in den drei GSM-Netzen 900, 1.800 sowie 1.900 MHz und unterstützt GPRS der Klasse 10. Zu den weiteren bekannten Funktionen zählen eine Freisprechfunktion, ein Browser gemäß WAP 2.0, MMS-Funktion und drei vorinstallierte Spiele. Angaben zur Display-Auflösung, zur Größe des integrierten Speichers und zum Gewicht machte Aldi leider nicht.

Die Sprechzeit mit einer Akkuladung für das Tevion-Handy gibt Aldi mit 5 Stunden an. Im Bereitschaftsmodus muss der Akku nach rund 8 Tagen wieder an die Steckdose. Bei kontinuierlicher Nutzung des eingebauten MP3-Players werden sich die Akkulaufzeiten aber voraussichtlich entsprechend verringern.Aldi-Süd bietet das "Tevion Multimedia Handy" ab dem 26. September 2005 in seinen Filialen zum Preis von 149,- Euro ohne Vertrag an. Dem Mobiltelefon liegen ein USB-Kabel und Ohrhörer bei.Tiger Telematics hat einen Nachfolger seines dauerverspäteten, GPS- und GPRS-bestückten Spiele-PDAs Gizmondo angekündigt. Wie die konkurrierende PlayStation Portable soll der "Gizmondo Widescreen" ein breiteres LCD aufweisen, passend wurde auch die Prozessorleistung und der Speicher vergrößert. Wer bisher mit dem Gizmondo liebäugelte, musste und muss sich wohl auch in Zukunft auf das Warten einrichten - oder sich das Gerät aus Großbritannien importieren. Bisher ist es in keinem anderen europäischen Land erschienen und die immer wieder durch das Netz geisternden Termine für eine mögliche Markteinführung sind sang- und klanglos verstrichen. Auch in den USA hat es Tiger Telematics bisher nicht geschafft, das erste Gizmondo-Modell auf den Markt zu bekommen.

Anders als bei der PlayStation Portable müssen beim Gizmondo allerdings für die jeweiligen Regionen Kooperationen mit Handy-Netzbetreibern geschlossen werden, um die GSM/GPRS-Funktionen des Geräts nutzen zu können. Mit dem Gizmondo Widescreen kommt noch eine GSM-Telefonie-Funktion hinzu, die Tiger Telematics für den Vorgänger noch nicht angekündigt hatte. Damit könnte es leichter werden, den Netzbetreibern das Gerät schmackhaft zu machen. Bei der GSM-Sprachtelefonie kann auch eine Freisprechfunktion genutzt werden, dazu kommt eine Sprachsteuerung. Auch Bluetooth-Headsets können genutzt werden.

Der Gizmondo Widescreen findet nicht nur per Tri-Band-GSM (900/1800/1900 MHz), GPRS und Bluetooth Anschluss, sondern versteht sich im Unterschied zum Vorgänger auch auf WLAN (IEEE 802.11b/g). Das Nintendo DS, die PlayStation Portable - beide mit WLAN bestückt - und das glücklose Nokia N-Gage (GSM/GPRS) können mit dieser Masse an Funktechnik nicht mithalten. Über WLAN sollen Gizmondo-Widescreen-Besitzer Mehrspielerfunktionen und - falls ein Access Point zur Verfügung steht - Onlinedienste nutzen können. Damit es im Flugzeug keinen Ärger gibt, können im "Flug-Modus" alle Drahtlos-Dienste zentral deaktiviert werden.Die augenfälligste Änderung ist sicherlich das 4-Zoll-Breitbild-LCD, das mit 480 x 272 Bildpunkten die gleiche Auflösung wie das 4,3-Zoll-16:9-LCD der PSP bietet. Sollte das nicht reichen, kann der Bildschirm-Inhalt auch über einen analogen TV-Ausgang auf einem Fernseher dargestellt werden.Unter der Haube hat sich auch einiges geändert: Unter anderem soll der Prozessor - zuvor war es eine Samsung-ARM-CPU mit 400 MHz - mit laut Hersteller mindestens 500 MHz zu Werke gehen. Auch der 3D-Grafikchip soll ein besserer sein und wird vermutlich wieder von Nvidia stammen - im Vorgänger steckt ein GoForce 4500, vielleicht findet sich dann ein GoForce 4800 im Neuling.

Zudem soll der Speicher größer sein; ob das sowohl das Onboard-RAM als auch den Onboard-Flash-Speicher betrifft, ist aber noch nicht bekannt. Dazu kommen ein extern zugänglicher SD-Card-Reader und ein interner, aber vom Nutzer selbst bestückbarer Platz für die kleineren Transflash-Speicherkarten.Wie schon das erste Gerät soll auch der Gizmondo Widescreen über einen GPS-Empfänger verfügen, der sowohl mit Navigationssoftware als auch von Spielen genutzt werden kann. Auf eine 2-Megapixel-Digicam muss ebenfalls nicht verzichtet werden, sie soll gar mit Autofokus und LED-Blitz daherkommen. Auf den bis jetzt veröffentlichten ersten Bildern eines Prototyps findet sich noch der Hinweis auf eine 1,3-Megapixel-Kamera. Per USB 2.0 können Daten mit dem PC ausgetauscht werden und dank USB-On-The-Go-Unterstützung kommuniziert das Handheld auch selbst mit externen USB-Datenträgern.Gesteuert wird der Gizmondo Widescreen über zwei analoge Joysticks, einige Steuer- und Zusatztasten, per Kopfhörer mit integrierter Fernbedienung und per Sprachsteuerung. Die Tonausgabe kann auch über die Stereo-Lautsprecher des Geräts erfolgen. Bei den Multimedia-Funktionen - insbesondere bei der Audio- und Video-Wiedergabe - soll das Gizmondo Widescreen nicht hinter Sonys PSP zurückstehen. Tiger zufolge können Audiodaten in den Formaten MP3, WMA- und High Efficiency (HE) AAC sowie MPEG-4-ASP, MPEG-4-AVC- (H.264) und WMV-Videos abgespielt werden.

Zur Kommunikation mit anderen stehen neben Telefonie auch SMS, MMS, Instant-Messaging und ein E-Mail-Client zur Verfügung. Die Eingabe dürfte aber dank fehlender Stiftsteuerung nicht sonderlich bequem sein. Eingehende Nachrichten und Anrufe können auch per Vibrationsmodus signalisiert werden. Als Betriebssystem kommt Windows CE 5.0 mit DRM 10 und dem .Net compact Framework 2.0 zum Einsatz.Die technischen Daten des Gizmondo Widescreen sind zwar beeindruckend, es bleiben aber einige wichtige Fragen offen: Da wäre die Frage nach der Akkulaufzeit des Geräts, denn bisher verschwieg der Hersteller noch, wie lange der Lithium-Ionen-Akku durchhalten wird. Auch in Bezug auf das Gewicht und die Größe fehlen bisher Angaben. Zudem wird so viel Technik auch ihren Preis haben, denn schon das einfache Gizmondo liegt preislich über einer PSP. Aber vielleicht helfen hier die Subventionierung durch Mobilfunkbetreiber und die Werbefinanzierung ("Smart-ADD"), wobei ab und an MMS mit zielgruppengerechter Werbung empfangen werden.

Tiger Telematics gibt zwar an, dass eine Verkaufsgenehmigung vorliege und das Gerät voraussichtlich im 2. Quartal 2006 in die USA und etwas später nach Europa kommen soll, hat allerdings beim aktuellen Gizmondo-Modell bisher nicht durch Pünktlichkeit glänzen können. Die erste öffentliche Demonstration des neuen Modells soll im Januar 2006 auf der Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas erfolgen.Den "alten" Gizmondo will der Hersteller trotz der Ankündigung noch vertreiben, er soll bald in den USA auf den Markt kommen. Dabei gab es bisher in jeder Region Verspätungen, mit dem Ergebnis, dass es bisher nur in England Gizmondos zu erstehen gibt. In Europa verpasste man damit die Chance, in breiten Regionen vor der PSP liefern zu können.Tiger spricht indes von einer Multi-Produkt-Roadmap, plant also, auch in Zukunft mehrere verschiedene Spiele-Handhelds anbieten zu wollen und spricht auch nebulös von deren Aufrüstbarkeit. Mehr dazu werde in Zukunft bekannt gegeben. Zu den bisherigen Gizmondo-Spielen - von denen die meisten noch nicht verfügbar sind - soll das neue Modell abwärtskompatibel sein.

Dass man es beim Breitbild-Gizmondo vor allem mit der PSP aufnehmen will, zeigt ein Kommentar von Carl Freer, einem der Gründer und Vorsitzender von Tiger Telematics: "Unsere langfristige Aufgabenstellung ist, einen Bereich von Unterhaltungs- und Nachrichten-Einheiten anzubieten, die sich für unterschiedliche Unterhaltungswünsche eignen. Widescreen ist am besten vergleichbar mit der Sony PSP, aber mit noch mehr Leistung und Leistungsmerkmalen."Bei Aldi-Nord gibt es ab dem 21. September 2005 ein Subnotebook mit einem 12,1-Zoll-LCD zu erwerben. Das Medion-Gerät hört auf den Namen MD 96400 und arbeitet mit einem Turion 64 Mobile ML-30 von AMD mit einer Taktfrequenz von 1,6 GHz. Als Chipsatz kommt ATIs Radeon XPress 200M zum Einsatz, dessen integrierter DirectX-9-Grafikkern sich bis zu 128 MByte des Hauptspeichers abzweigt. Das "Hochglanz"-Display bietet eine Auflösung von 1.280 x 800 Pixeln.Das Notebook verfügt über 512 MByte DDR-RAM, womit schon beide Speicherbänke belegt sind. Wer auf die maximal möglichen 1.024 MByte aufrüsten will, muss beide Speicherriegel auswechseln.

En cuanto al Ahorro Neto que es otra de las variables que diagnostica la salud presupuestaria, en el Ayuntamiento de Palos es de más de 10 millones de €. Esta cuantía facilita, según Carmelo Romero, la posibilidad de una buena gestión presupuestaria.Representantes de los funcionarios del Ayuntamiento de Ayamonte pertenecientes al sindicato CSIF se han reunido con el Subdelegado del Gobierno, Enrique Pérez Viguera, para informarle sobre lo que consideran "una situación alarmante” en los que se refiere a la seguridad de la localidad costera por la falta de medios y dotaciones de la Policía Local. En este encuentro, los responsables sindicales le trasladaron al máximo representante en materia de seguridad pública en la provincia de Huelva que desde el pasado día 14 de noviembre "los agentes no realizan servicio de patrulla ordinario por las calles del municipio ante la imposibilidad de comunicarse entre sí y con la Jefatura de Policía Local, tal y como se exige legalmente, debido a una carencia total de emisoras portátiles operativas y la inexistencia de emisoras fijas en los vehículos patrulla”, lo que incumple la normativa relativa a los medios técnicos y defensivos de los Cuerpos de la Policía Local de Andalucía.

Los representantes de los trabajadores explicaban que "los sistemas de transmisiones son esenciales para el desempeño de los cometidos de la Policía ya que les permite intercambiar continuamente información indispensable para el buen desarrollo de las intervenciones y alertar a otros servicios de urgencia y seguridad en caso de ser necesario”. Por este motivo, advierten que "la imposibilidad de que los policías puedan comunicarse afecta a su propia seguridad y a la de los propios ciudadanos”. Fuentes sindicales de CSIF apuntaron durante la reunión con el Subdelegado del Gobierno que "la Policía Local ha estado durante bastante tiempo supliendo las carencias en los sistemas de transmisiones usando los teléfonos móviles particulares, con un coste económico personal para cada uno de los trabajadores del cuerpo (considerando, además, que iniciarán el mes de diciembre con cinco nóminas pendientes de pago), mientras se espera una solución que hasta el momento no ha llegado pese a que en los dos últimos años desde la propia Jefatura se ha comunicado directamente a los responsables municipales de éstas y otras deficiencias”. Otras cuestiones que fueron expuestas al Subdelegado fue el número y la situación de los vehículos patrulla de la Policía Local del municipio fronterizo (cuentan con dos coches que resultan insuficientes y que presentan continuamente problemas mecánicos) o la carencia de los documentos de acreditación profesional reglamentarios con el número de identificación asignados por la Consejería de Gobernación y que constan en el Registro de Policías Locales de Andalucía.

En este sentido, desde CSIF apuntaron que los documentos de acreditación debían haber sido facilitados a cada uno de los agentes desde hace más de dos años lo que les impide identificarse correctamente cuando legalmente proceda, "lo que da idea de la situación de abandono y deterioro en el que se encuentran los servicios de Policía por parte del Ayuntamiento”. "Los responsables municipales incumplen de manera reiterada y permanente la legislación dictada por la Junta de Andalucía en materia de Coordinación de Policías Locales”, afirman los representantes sindicales pero a pesar de ello "se continúa dando servicio y atendiendo los requerimientos de los vecinos, aunque su presencia en las calles se ve notablemente afectada”. Finalmente, José Luis Pérez, Presidente de la Junta Personal en el Ayuntamiento por CSIF, ha asegurado que el Subdelegado del Gobierno "ha oído amablemente y entendido las dificultades que tiene la Policía Local para la prestación de los servicios en las actuales circunstancias, y se ha mostrado dispuesto a colaborar para encontrar soluciones a los problemas existentes en el seno de una Junta Local de seguridad que se convocase al efecto u otras formas que pudieran articularse”.

La actualidad de la provincia en la red El pleno del Ayuntamiento de Palos de la Frontera ha aprobado este lunes por unanimidad de todos los grupos una bajada del 5 % en el IBI urbano, una tasa de 1 euros al año para la basura, una cuota de abonado al polideportivo también de 1 euros al año y bonificaciones de la plusvalía que llegan al 90 %. Asimismo el alcalde, Carmelo Romero, ha anunciado que "si las cuentas lo permiten, bajaremos otra vez los impuestos en 2015”.Los puntos 5, 6, 7 y 8, referentes a estos asuntos han sido debatidos conjuntamente saliendo adelante la propuesta del alcalde de reducir la presión fiscal para aliviar el bolsillo de los ciudadanos. Así, a partir de enero de 2015, la cuota tributaria en el Impuesto de Bienes Inmuebles Urbano (IBI) bajará un 5 % situádose en 0,669% con carácter general y en un 0,70% para los inmuebles de uso industrial que superen el valor catastral de 500.000 euros. Esta bajada se acumula a la acordada en 2013 (de otro 5%) y que los ciudadanos ya han visto reflejado este año en sus recibos. A modo de ejemplo el primer edil ha exibido un recibo de contribución y ha apoyado su discurso en un gráfico que reflejaba la progresiva disminución del IBI en Palos desde 2012.

En cuanto a la tasa por recogida de residuos sólidos urbanos, se estipula una cuota única de 1 euro al año para todos: viviendas, locales, despachos profesionales, hoteles y hostales y núcleos de viviendas en fincas agrícolas. Así, las viviendas, por ejemplo, el año pasado pasaron de pagar 36 a 30 euros y en enero de 2015 pasarán de 30 a 1 euro. En este punto Carmelo Romero ha dicho que "es una oportunidad que no tiene ni creo que la vayan a tener ningún ciudadano de la provincia de Huelva. Ojalá la Diputación ponga el recibo por el tratamiento de la basura a 1 euro también”. En este sentido instó a la portavoz del PSOE y diputada provincial, Esperanza Cortés, a que media en el asunto ante el órgano provincial. Asimismo, se ha aprobado que quede reducida a 1 euro al año la cuota de los abonados al Polideportivo Municipal. De la ordenanza municipal que regula la tasa por estos servicios se modifica el artículo referente a bonificaciones de manera que se establecen distintos descuentos que se traducen en el pago de una cuota única para todos los colectivos de un euro al año. Ahora la cuota que pagan los palermos oscila entre los 8,68 euros al año que pagan los jubilados y los 30,86 euros que pagan las familias con hijos menores de 16 años; los mayores de 19 años pagan 17,37 euros, los jóvenes entre 16 y 18 años pagan 12,62 euros y los jóvenes hasta los 16 años pagan 9,62 euros. Eso sí, esta nueva cuota de 1 euro es sólo para los usuarios del polideportivo que sean de Palos (al menos 5 años empadronados).

Otro de los impuestos que sufrirá una importante bajada será la Plusvalía. "Esto es un alivio económico en momentos de hondo pesar”, ha asegurado el alcade. El pleno ha aprobado una modificación de la ordenanza fiscal reguladora del impuesto sobre el incremento del valor de terrenos de naturaleza urbana, estableciendo una bonificación, que oscila entre el 30 y el 90 %, en los supuestos de transmisión o constitución de derechos reales de goce limitativos del dominio "mortis causa” a favor de los herederos de la vivienda habitual del fallecido. Para viviendas con valor catastral inferior a 50.000 euros, la bonificación que se pretende es del 90 %; para viviendas que estén entre los 50.001 y los 100.000 euros, un 60 % y; para viviendas con valor superior a los 100.001 euros, el 30 %. Además, según Carmelo Romero, estas bajadas se hacen sobre impuestos y tasas que estan congelados desde hace 15 años quedando el resto de impuestos, tasas y precios públicos congelados como hasta ahora. Otra de las cuestiones sobre las que se ha pronunciado el pleno y que también ha salido adelante por unanimidad de todos los grupos es la modificiación de los requisitos de los Programas Cheque Vivienda, Posito Vivienda, Cheque Bebé, Posito Bebé y Cheque Bañera. En todos estos casos el requisito de empadronamiento para poder ser beneficiario de estas medidas se reduce a la mitad, es decir, pasa de 10 a 5 años, igualándose con otros programas en los que ya se establece este margen temporal, como es la entrega de portátiles a los estudiantes. Sólo en los casos de Cheque Vivienda y Posito Vivienda cuando el solicitante hubiera adquirido una vivienda de VPO se exigía, desde el año pasado, los 5 años de empadronamiento en vez de los 10 que se les requiere a los que compran o construye su casa en régimen de renta libre. Esta rebaja temporal en el empadronamiento se instala ahora con carácter más general y alcanza a otros programas. Según el Alcalde, Carmelo Romero, con esta medida se pretende hacer más universal el acceso a prestaciones de carácter social, sobre todo, teniendo en cuenta los momentos que atravesamos y favoreciendo a un mayor número de vecinos.

Carmelo Romero ha aclarado "que estas medidas son posibles gracias a la amortización anticipada de todos los préstamos a largo plazo concertados por el Ayuntamiento. La deuda 0 en operaciones financieras a largo plazo es un objetivo económico que se marcó el equipo de Gobierno hace algunos años y así se fue incluyendo en cada ejercicio presupuestarios créditos para la amortización anticipada de estos préstamos. Este año, se ha conseguido el fin propuesto y de aquí a dos meses el Ayuntamiento de Palos no tendrá que pagar ni intereses ni gastos de amortización por operacines financieras a largo plazo. Y así consta en los informes economicos que sustentan la bajada de impuestos y tasas aprobadas hoy". Los ahorros comportados por esta gestión de carácter económico ha permitido que, tendiendo en cuenta la situación de crisis que viene padeciendo los ciudadanos en general y las empresas, sobre todo las Pymes en particular, se puedan utilizar recursos para bajar los tipos de gravamen y las cuotas tributarias de algunos impuestos y tasas lo que supondrá un ahorro en el bolsillo de los ciudadanos. En otro orden de cosas, el pleno ha aprobado por unanimidad el proyecto de rotonda de acceso al polígono industrial San Jorge desde la carretera A-494 (Moguer-Mazagón) dotado con 437.000 euros. Esta actuación mejorará la circulación en la zona. Asimismo se ha aprobado también, con los votos a favor del Grupo Popular y la abstención de la oposición, el proyecto básico y de ejecución de la ampliación de la piscina cubierta. El programa contempla una subvención del 40% sobre los gastos de matricula para jóvenes que cursen estudios en universidades públicas. Serán objeto de subvención los créditos en primera matrícula así como los gastos de tasas de secretaría del curso en el que se matricule el alumno y los gastos de apertura de expediente del primer curso.

But that was tiny by comparison to the massive recall caused by Sony batteries in 2006.

Pressure from Apple's MacBook Air has sent the PC industry into a spiral of thin-and-light craziness. HP's getting in on the action too, with a new skinny machine called the HP Envy Sleekbook. Powered by AMD and coming in 14 and 15.6-inch sizes, I've been hands-on with the Sleekbook ahead of its launch. Read on for my first impressions.The HP Envy Sleekbook will be available in the UK from July, with prices kicking off at £549. Expect the cost to jump up if you opt for the 15.6-inch version. The images above are of the 15.6-inch edition, but check out our hands-on with the 14-inch HP Envy Ultrabook for an idea of what the smaller version looks like.The Sleekbook is exactly like an ultrabook -- in fact this machine is visually identical to the HP Envy Ultrabook, which also comes in 14- and 15.6-inch options and was announced at the same time. But Intel owns the 'ultrabook' name, and since these PCs are powered by AMD chips, HP has cunningly gone with 'Sleekbook'.

Crafty. But the Sleekbook has a starting price £100 lower than the HP Envy Ultrabook, making this a potentially more tempting proposition.To be brutally honest, using the terms 'ultrabook' or 'sleekbook' to describe this laptop is slightly misleading, as while it's reasonably thin at 19.8mm, the Sleekbooks are nowhere near as skinny or classy as the wedge-shaped MacBook Air, or even HP's own Envy Spectre XT.Take heart though -- the Sleekbook is still reasonably slim, and for a mid-range laptop it feels decently portable. Having a mildly bulkier chassis also makes room for more ports, which are detailed further down.The rectangular styling Sleekbook looks decent enough, though the plastic chassis doesn't exactly ooze class. There's a brushed metal effect on the lid and keyboard surround, which clashes with the black gloss that surrounds the display. The screen itself packs a respectable 1,366x768 pixels.

The version in the photos above is red and black, though a silver version was also on show -- fingers crossed a selection of hues make it to the UK.Like other HP laptops, the Sleekbook has speakers provided by Beats Audio. As such, there's a small lower-case 'b' sitting on the speaker grille.The keyboard sits within a recessed part of the chassis, with a healthy space between keys that should keep typing errors to a minimum. Helpfully, it's also backlit, which means you can keep on writing once the lights go out.The trackpad has a psychedelic, swirled metal look, that I wouldn't exactly describe as demure, but at least it's different to most trackpads. Unfortunately, HP is still making the click buttons part of the touch-sensitive surface, which means you'll likely end up nudging the cursor by accident when you try to click on things. There's a hearty port selection on show here. The left side plays host to an Ethernet port, HDMI out, two USB ports and an SD card slot -- handy for yanking photos off your digital camera.Spin the laptop around and along the right you'll find two 3.5mm sockets for a microphone and headphones and another USB port, which makes three in total -- one of which is USB 3.0.

There's 500GB of storage on an HDD hard drive with 32GB of SSD cache on the 15.6-inch version, while the 14-inch model has a 320GB HDD. Hybrid mechanical and solid state hard drives will be an option, or you can upgrade to an SSD drive. Expect that to make the Sleekbook more expensive -- although it might be worth the extra pennies. Solid state drives are better because they're faster than their mechanical counterparts, and lack moving parts, so are less susceptible to knocks.The SD card slot is useful for whipping holiday snaps off your camera and onto Facebook, where your ungainly knees will attract the requisite ridicule. I'm excited to see what performance the AMD chips inside the Sleekbook can deliver -- we'll know for sure once we get this PC into our testing lab, so stay tuned.The design of the Sleekbook doesn't exactly feel all that sleek, but I'm intrigued by the price. Starting at £549, if performance and battery life are up to scratch, this could be a great value machine.

After two reports of flaming laptop batteries, the Consumer Product Safety Commission announced Thursday that Hewlett-Packard is voluntarily recalling 70,000 lithium-ion batteries that shipped with several models of its HP and Compaq laptops.The recall affects nine models of HP Pavilions, nine models of Compaq Presarios, two models of HPs, and one HP Compaq laptop model sold between August 2007 and March 2008. For the full list, see the CPSC's site.There were two separate reports of batteries that "overheated and ruptured, resulting in flames/fire that caused minor property damage" but no injuries, according to the CPSC report.HP is instructing consumers who may be part of the recall to remove the battery from their notebook and contact HP to find out if theirs is affected. Like Asus' Eee Pad Transformer Prime, the IdeaTab S2 comes as two separate, interlocking pieces: a tablet and a keyboard dock. It's a great combo for anyone who feels that their tablet needs to do more than just Angry Birds and Web browsing and actually serve as a tool for working and communicating.The keyboard accessory also provides a number of useful extras, such as two full-size USB ports, HDMI output, SD card reader, and an internal battery pack that affords an extra 10 hours of uptime.

With a press of a button, the tablet springs out (expertly demonstrated in this video) and you find yourself holding a slim (8.69mm) tablet with a 10-inch IPS display, boasting a 1,280x800-pixel resolution. The tablet runs Android 4.0 powered by a Qualcomm 8x60A/8960 1.5 GHz Dual Krait processor and 1GB of LP-DDR2 memory.The rest of the hardware capabilities are just as you'd expect from a high-end Android tablet, including GPS, 802.11n Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 2.1 + EDR, a 1.3 megapixel front-facing camera, and an 8-megapixel camera on the back that includes autofocus and an LED flash. There's also a microSD card slot for extra storage, Micro-HDMI output, Micro-USB sync, and an optional SIM card slot.Finally, to put its own spin on Android 4.0 (for better or worse) Lenovo has skinned the UI with a unique tiled interface, allowing you to quickly access frequently used apps and widgets (such as stocks and weather).

No word yet on exact availability, but Lenovo sounded optimistic that the tablet would arrive in the second quarter of 2012 with a base price of $399.While some of Apple's new laptops are built with internal batteries to increase power capabilities, other systems still have easily removable batteries. In similar systems, the batteries are interchangeable, and while it may be obvious that you can swap batteries among these systems, some people may also have concerns about doing this. Some of these might include whether or not the system would read battery status properly and if charge values would be similar across multiple machines."Since I own two batteries for my Intel Core Duo MacBook Pro I was wondering... where is the battery condition information stored, in the battery or the computer? The reason I ask has to do with conditioning/calibrating the batteries. If I successfully calibrate one battery and then do the same for the second, can I swap batteries and be confident the calibration will be accurate for whichever battery I am using at the time?" Battery calibration adjusts the battery itself, and not the computer's reading of the battery. A full calibration pushes the battery to its limits and resets the output levels that the battery tells the computer is 100 percent of its capabilities. As batteries age, they lose their ability to hold a full charge, so what is considered "full" for a given battery needs to be reset periodically.

Asus K50IE Battery

Interested consumers will likely ask: what's the difference between this "small business-oriented" Mini 1103 and HP's consumer-branded HP Mini 210, a perennial top pick at CNET among Netbooks? Mostly, not much. In terms of design, the Mini 1103 is spartan. Black is the only option, unlike HP's spectrum of Mini 210 colors. The price is better with the Mini 1103: instead of mid-$300s for a Netbook, the 1103's $299 price puts it on par with the least expensive Netbooks from Acer and Asus. Feature-wise, the 1103 actually comes out on top; instead of removing any features to hit $299, the Mini Glossy black on the outside, matte black on the inside, the Mini 1103 has a clean, inoffensive look that doesn't try too hard. The plastic Netbook is lightweight, although slightly thick with the curved lid closed. To eliminate battery bulge, the long-life battery in the Mini 1103 is largely tucked into the space between the hinges. The top lid opens up completely to a flat 180 degrees, affording plenty of flexibility when lap-typing. Its design is an analogue to HP's consumer Netbooks, and is nothing like the high-end, crisp design of the more expensive HP Mini 5103. This one's a rental car compared with the Mini 5103's luxury coupe touches.

The flat keyboard and its surrounding deck are treated in matte black plastic that has a budget feel, but is sturdy and flex-free. The keyboard isn't full-size, but it's close enough to allow easy and fast typing. Enter and Shift keys are amply sized, and the volume/brightness buttons on top are function-reversed, meaning that they operate directly without requiring a Function button-press.The multitouch touch pad beneath is wide but very narrow, making for awkward navigation. Two large discrete buttons beneath are generous, but the design would have made a lot more sense as a clickpad, thus saving real estate. We can't expect too much out of a budget Netbook, but Asus' Eee PC touch pads are more comfortably designed. The Synaptics touch-based gestures are varied, but hard to execute on such a small surface area.The 10.1-inch LED-backlit matte display on the Mini 1103 looks better in direct light than other displays because it foregoes the glossy treatment on the majority of laptops, but the maximum brightness isn't that high. The 1,024x600-pixel native resolution is standard for 10-inch Netbooks, offering easily readable text and clear-quality images and video, but browser windows and document layouts end up with less user real estate. Web browsing suffers the most, especially with multiple toolbars.

Video and audio playback aren't the strong suits of the Mini 1103, nor are they with any Atom processor-based Netbook. The front-facing stereo speakers built into the lower edge of the laptop achieve functional audio, but cap at an insufficiently low volume for Hulu and other movie playback with a wide sound range. The screen on the Mini 1103 has very limited viewing angles, and is best for single-user watching. A VGA Webcam included with the Mini 1103 has average recording and picture quality.The Mini 1103 has three USB 2.0 ports and an Ethernet port hidden away behind a flap on the right side; it also has Bluetooth, a rarity among budget Netbooks. Also included is a high-speed 7,200rpm 250GB hard drive, a step up and a contributor to zippier file-opening speeds. However, other specs are standard-issue for budget Netbooks: 1GB of RAM and Windows 7 Starter. This Netbook also lacks HDMI-out, so hooking it up to TV could be a hassle.The single-core Atom N455 CPU is perfectly capable for basic tasks such as Web browsing, e-mail, and office document work, even some light multitasking, but the experience slows down significantly with any added multimedia tasks. Playback of full-screen streaming Hulu and Netflix videos degraded into choppiness while still being technically watchable, depending on your definition of watchable.

Bottom line: all Atom Netbooks are limited computing platforms that are fine as long as your expectations are curbed, and your concerns lie more toward size and budget than all-purpose use. There are no dedicated graphics, but the Mini 1103 could easily play casual Web-based games and the like.Asus may have invented netbooks, but Samsung has made some of the best models to grace the market. The NF110 has plenty to live up to, then. With a price tag of £280 and slick styling, the initial signs are promising.Netbooks have a tendency to look quite similar, but the NF110 certainly stands out from the crowd. Like the Samsung NF210, the NF110's chassis has a very distinctive, sculpted shape. The edges of the chassis on either side of the keyboard curve upwards, creating an organic, wave-like appearance.The netbook's design also benefits from the use of three different colours on the chassis. The lid and base of the chassis are finished in black, with a red highlight around the edge, while opening up the netbook reveals a matte white screen surround and keyboard. It all adds up to a very stylish machine. The netbook is also very light and fairly compact, weighing in at a mere 1.3kg and measuring just 265 by 29 by 189mm.

There are no surprises when it comes to the range of ports on offer. There are three USB ports, along with an Ethernet socket, SD card reader and VGA output. Sadly, Samsung hasn't managed to squeeze in an HDMI socket, but, at this price point, that's not a huge surprise.A 250GB hard drive provides a decent amount of room for storing your media files and work documents. Along with 802.11n Wi-Fi, the NF110 supports Bluetooth connectivity. Unusually for a netbook, the NF110's speakers actually sound quite decent. They're not exactly hi-fi-quality, but they're quite loud and rival those found in many larger laptops.The NF110 has one of the better 10.1-inch displays we've seen on a netbook. Its resolution of 1,024x600 pixels may be fairly standard, but it's finished with a matte, rather than glossy, coating, so screen reflections aren't an issue. That's something your eyes will thank you for after a long day's work. The screen is also very bright, and colours are punchy, so pictures and movies look rich and vibrant. Viewing angles are excellent too, and the backlighting is pretty uniform across the screen.

Asustek Computer may still be best known for its low-cost Netbooks, and occasional high-end reaches such as its Republic of Gamers desktop replacements, but the company churns out a fair number of middle-of-the-road systems as well. The Asus U41JF is a solidly built 14-inch notebook that will work fine for nearly any mainstream task, but at the same time is no bargain at $849. Worse, it's easily outclassed in the design department by its 13-inch cousin, the Asus U36JC, which costs around the same, but is thinner, lighter, and more attractive, and has similar discrete graphics and a better processor.Neither model has Intel's new second-gen Core i-series processors (formerly code-named Sandy Bridge), but for mainstream systems such as this, that upgrade may take a while to hit store shelves, especially given Intel's recent troubles with the new platform.At prices approaching Apple's MacBook (and topping Toshiba's 13-inch R705), unless you're wedded to the idea of the system's Nvidia GeForce 425M graphics, there are better-priced or nicer-looking laptops out there. That said, the U41JF has really good battery life, and never really let us down, which may sound like faint praise, but is praise nonetheless.

The biggest immediate problem we had with the Asus U41JF was its overall look. The brushed metal lid and wrist rest are standard enough, and not offensive, but that's paired with a glossy black keyboard tray (with matte black keyboard) and screen bezel that extend to the four edges of the chassis. This gives the entire device a gaudy two-tone look that we've previously criticized on other systems. If you can't go monochrome, at least keep the colors in the same family.The body itself is angular and boxy, but not overly thick for a 14-inch system. We're not aesthetic elitists by any means, but with laptops mostly being constructed from the same core set of components, the visual flair is often what sells one model over another.The keyboard has the same flat-topped, widely spaced keys as most current laptops, which is a style we sometimes call island or Chiclet keys. The keys are a good size, with large Left Shift and Enter keys, but the Right Shift key gets unfairly shortened. We're also not a fan of the extra row of buttons some laptop makers are adding to the far right side, which are typically Page Up, Page Down, and other movement keys. They can throw off your touch typing pretty easily, making it hard to hit the Enter and Shift keys if you're used to them being on the far right side of the keyboard. Additionally, the keyboard flexed under our fingers in the middle while we were typing, which never makes for a good long-term experience.

A generous touch pad is centered under the keyboard, but its basic multitouch gestures are hit or miss (however, the same could be said of most Windows laptops right now). One nice touch is that you can scroll vertically by either swiping one finger along the right edge of the touch pad or by using the Mac-like two-finger method. Under the touch pad, a single rocker bar takes the place of separate left and right mouse buttons. We strongly prefer separate buttons, but Asus seems married to the rocker bar concept across most of its products. The 14.1-inch display has a native resolution of 1,366x768 pixels, which is typical for a midsize laptop. Off-axis viewing was good horizontally, but the image faded quickly when viewed from above or below. The built-in Altec Lansing speakers are decent for a laptop, and at least good enough for personal video viewing. There's nothing notable, or missing, from the U41JF's collection of ports and connections. But for nearly $900, it's possible to find extras such as a mobile broadband antenna or even a Blu-ray player if you shop around.

Guardería de maridos. Si nos paramos a pensar y filosofar un bar no es sólo un sitio en el que se va para saciar la sed y el hambre. Se consume, se paga y hasta luego. Es algo más. Es un lugar de encuentro con amigos, donde conocer gente, de conversaciones y confesiones, de momentos de risas y confidencias. Es un punto para ver partidos de fútbol o cualquier otra retransmisión deportiva en grupo, para escuchar música y hasta bailar, según el local, por supuesto, también para refrescarse y disfrutar de la gastronomía, que en Huelva brilla de verdad. Lo que igual no habíamos pensado muchos es que un bar es una guardería, concretamente una guardería de maridos. Así se vende como elemento diferenciador dentro de sus servicios el Bar Santiago, situado en el barrio del Molino de la Vega, que en una pizarra expone claramente su declaración de intenciones al respecto. Y es que dirigido a las esposas con problemas expone que: "¿Se pone pesado en casa?, ¿te molesta mientras vas de compras?, ¿necesitas un respiro?, Tenemos lo que buscas!! Deja aquí a tu marido y recógelo más tarde. Es ‘gratis’, sólo tienes que pagar por su bebida. Nunca hemos perdido a ninguno!!”. Después de este mensaje, ¿subirá la demanda en ‘la guardería’?.

Drones, también bajo el agua. Se ha convertido en un término habitual. Ya a pocos se les escapa qué es un ‘dron’, ese ‘avioncito’ que surca el cielo sin estar tripulado por nadie en su interior y al que cada vez se le encuentran más aplicaciones. Pues cómo la tecnología no para de avanzar para sorprendernos, resulta que también hay drones submarinos. En Huelva por lo menos ya hay uno. El Club Deportivo Náutico Punta Umbría ha firmado un convenio de colaboración con David Expósito, dueño de un drone submarino que tiene infinidad de aplicaciones, entre ellas, el análisis del fondo marino, con lo que eso podría repercutir, en el aspecto positivo, a la hora de saber cómo está la ría de Punta Umbría. El aparato, recién importado de Estados Unidos, está siendo utilizado por los militares para la búsqueda de minas, exploración del fondo marino, acciones de salvamento y para cualquier actividad bajo el agua, lo que ahorra a su vez que tenga que desplegarse un equipo de buzos. El Club Deportivo Náutico Punta Umbría lo hace con la intención de ver cómo se encuentran las embarcaciones amarradas a puerto, al mismo tiempo que desea escrutar cómo está el fondo marino, la ría, en definitiva, sobre todo para tener conocimiento de las posibles actuaciones en la misma de cara al futuro inmediato. Según ha indicado el club onubense con un artefacto así se puede hacer una inspección de las partes sumergidas de un puerto, donde se incluye los cascos de las embarcaciones o un reportaje, una búsqueda de minas marinas o una toma de muestras de plancton, una búsqueda de supervivientes en un naufragio o recogida de datos para la reflotación de un buque, con un equipo totalmente portátil para poder operar desde un barco o en tierra. Así que a partir de ahora miren debajo del agua al bañarse, porque igual ronda por ahí un ‘aparatejo’ de este calibre.Esta operación pone fin a la iniciada a finales de 2013 que tenía por objetivo una activa red criminal asentada en Huelva y Sevilla y dedicada a gestionar la infraestructura necesaria para introducir droga en Europa a través del litoral sur de España y Portugal.

El Programa "Palos Ciudad Digital” tiene como principal objetivo el fomento del uso las nuevas tecnologías de la comunicación y la información entre los palermos. Carmelo Romero recordó que tiene plena confianza en el potencial de la juventud palerma y reconoció como un deber facilitar cuantas herramientas sean necesarias para el mejor desarrollo de su talento. Al margen de disquisiciones éticas, educativas y de salud, beber supone un elemento de conviavilidad para los jóvenes, un símbolo en torno al cual trazan e intensifican lazos de amistad, siendo, además, un potente desinhibidor de la personalidad para ellos. Ese es el papel que ejerce en el ecosistema social, guste más o menos. El botellón es una manifestación destilada y/o fermentada por la rebeldía, ejerciendo como foco de interrelación fuertemente arraigado en estas latitudes. El debate sobre este fenómeno ha generado una ferviente controversia y un único punto de encuentro auspiciado por el peso de los acontecimientos, no hay duda de que es incontenible y que la solución no pasa por vetarlo.

Funciona como un movimiento reactivo motivado, entre otros factores, por una limitación. Los bares y pubs suben los precios de las copas y superan con creces el presupuesto de los adolescentes, a quienes les sale mucho más rentable adquirir sus propias bebidas. En esta coyuntura, el Ayuntamiento se ha dedicado a amordazar una realidad que pide a gritos algo más que cíclicas permutas en su localización. Y es que el botellón en Huelva ha vivido etapas de peregrinaje, aterrizando finalmente en la zona del Puerto. Con la manida excusa (no exenta de cierta lógica) de evitar molestias a los vecinos, se han ido justificando decisiones parciales, consistentes en modificar su emplazamiento sin estudiar en profundidad el epicentro de las implicaciones que rodean a este asunto. Una huida hacia adelante constante.

Ahora, los jóvenes se ven obligados a desplazarse hasta la zona portuaria, lejos de las discotecas del centro, lo cual les obliga a recurrir a sus vehículos para trasladarse. Una circunstancia que removida con el alcohol se convierte en un cóctel explosivo. Sin embargo, hay un sector de la juventud que prefiere desafiar a la ley 7/2006 del 24 de octubre, que prohíbe consumir alcohol fuera de los espacios acotados para ello. Clandestinamente ‘acampan’ con sus lotes de alcohol en callejones y plazoletas poco frecuentadas del casco urbano para esquivar las multas, exponiéndose a ser pillados in fraganti. Se arrincona y margina, pero no se aborda el problema. El traslado de sede ni siquiera ha reducido las protestas de residentes en los aledaños, ya que el ruido y la suciedad siguen siendo dos factores acuciantes a los que no se ha dado solución. Continúa sin respuesta la necesidad de habilitar urinarios públicos portátiles para que los jóvenes cuenten con un espacio específico para algo tan básico. Los políticos se apresuran, siempre que se aborda esta cuestión, a realizar un llamamiento al civismo dirigido a los adolescentes. Un sermón adoctrinador que bien podrían aplicarse a sí mismos.

Estamos de acuerdo con que hay que evitar el pernicioso efecto que meadas, cagadas, potas y deposiciones varias provocan en el mobiliario urbano. Pero, señores políticos, quizás ustedes hayan desarrollado una habilidad que podríamos definir como micción tántrica (o mear hacia adentro), pero la mayoría de los mortales aún precisamos de un retrete para atender a nuestras necesidades fisiológicas. Rásquense el bolsillo y pongan un mísero wáter donde puedan evacuar. Solo entonces podremos exigir pudor, respeto y madurez en ese sentido, pero no antes. Sin que esto se interprete como un alegato exculpatorio de borrachos y descerebrados que aprovechan la coyuntura para dar rienda suelta a sus fechorías y actos vandálicos.

Tampoco hay que perder de vista que los chavales pasan horas en un recinto no acotado a escasos metros de la Ría, en un espacio completamente a la intemperie, sin edificios ni elementos arquitectónicos para guarecerse. El principal peligro reside en que corren, bailan, e interactúan en las inmediaciones de una carretera transitada por camiones de gran tonelaje y coches que circulan a gran velocidad. El estado de embriaguez y el consiguiente letargo del raciocinio y la atención pueden desembocar en importantes desgracias.La vigilancia y la seguridad son dos factores cruciales y en ambos flaquea el botellón. Los dispositivos policiales son insuficientes e intervienen en casos muy puntuales, de manera que su labor es más disuasoria que activa. El control no es efectivo y el zafarrancho es casi absoluto, con un desmadre de ruidos, gamberradas, trapicheos, agresiones... Ahora, el Muelle del Tinto, el Parque de las Palomas o el Nuevo Colombino lucen llenos de basuras tras los fines de semana, unos desperdicios que, en ocasiones, permanecen allí durante días e incluso semanas. Todo esto en una zona, la del Ensanche Sur, que pretende ser un referente, el punto neurálgico de la expansión de Huelva para erigirse en un reclamo de visitantes.Con la entrega de kits tecnológicos, becas matrículas y cheques y pósitos vivienda ha querido despedir el Ayuntamiento de Palos de la Frontera el año 2014. El alcalde palermo, Carmelo Romero, ha hecho entrega de las ayudas en materia de educación y de vivienda.

Este medio día se han entregado 22 kits tecnológicos, compuestos por ordenador portátil, un maletín para el transporte, un soporte y una memoria USB de 16 Gb. Estas entregas, que se enmarcan en el programa "Palos, Ciudad Digital”, se han destinado en esta ocasión en su mayor parte a alumnos de Primero de Bachillerato. Además, subiendo un peldaño más en nuestro sistema educativo, entre los estudiantes de secundaria, se abrían paso los universitarios. En esta ocasión estudiantes de Grados de Veterinaria, Ingeniería, Óptica, Relaciones Laborales y Recursos Humanos, Química, Terapia Ocupacional y algún Máster oficial recogían sus respectivos cheques de Beca Matrícula. El Consistorio les paga el 40 % del coste de cada crédito de grados y masteres oficiales en primera matricula. La mayoría de ellos estudian fuera de Huelva por tratarse de Grados que no tienen implantación en la Onubense. "Una inyección de motivación como reconocimiento a estos jóvenes que han decidido seguir su formación en el ámbito universitario”, decía la portavoz del Equipo de Gobierno, Gema Domínguez, que ha acompañaba al Alcalde, Carmelo Romero, durante las entregas. Concluidas las entregas en materia de Educación han tenido lugar las entregas en materia de Vivienda.

En el despacho del Primer Edil dos jóvenes recogían su Cheque Vivienda de 7.000 € a fondo perdido al que sumaban un Posito Vivienda, de 6.000 € a devolver en 6 años sin intereses. En total 13.000 € para cada uno de ellos con los que "apuntalar” algunos gastos. Además los jóvenes palermos que adquieran o se construyan su primera vivienda tienen derecho a solicitar la bonificación del 50% de la tasa del enganche de agua. Reunido con los jóvenes, el sector que probablemente haya sido el depositario de un mayor número de políticas durante esta legislatura, el Alcalde hacía una extensa reflexión sobre su apoyo al colectivo. "Uno de los sectores que más me preocupa y en el que tengo depositadas más esperanzas de cara al futuro sois vosotros” les decía. Y en mi ánimo como regidor municipal está el dejaros "una buena herencia” y; ¿que mejor herencia que dotaros de herramientas para que en la vida adulta os podáis desenvolver? Por eso uno de nuestros principales ejes como Gobierno es la Educación y el otro la Vivienda. "Creemos firmemente que estamos en la obligación de buscar recursos para poder apoyaros en estas materias”. Ahora mismo os podemos ofrecer como ciudadanos un Ayuntamiento saneado económicamente, unos servicios básicos garantizados y muchas políticas puestas en marcha que suman pero, "estas iniciativas son especialmente sensibles porque ponen un granito de arena en vuestra historia personal”, apostillaba el Alcalde.En el presupuesto municipal destacan un Plan Especial de Empleo y el mantenimiento de todos los programas socialesas dentro de un montante económico total para el ejercicio de de 25.825.485 euros. El presupuesto se reduce con respecto a 2014 en algo más de un millón de euros.

El pleno ordinario celebrado hoy en el Ayuntamiento de Palos de la Frontera ha aprobado, con el voto a favor del Grupo Popular y la abstención del Grupo Socialista y la Agrupación Palerma Independiente, el presupuesto para 2015 que asciende a un montante económico de 25.825.485 €, reduciéndose con respecto a 2014, en algo más de un millón de euros. Se trata, según el alcalde, Carmelo Romero, de un presupuesto equilibrado que ha visto mermados sus ingresos fundamentalmente por la bajada de impuestos aprobada recientemente por el Gobierno Local y que empezará a ser efectiva a partir del 1 de enero. A pesar de contar con menos recursos, indicadores como el capital vivo (que hace referencia a la deuda) y que desde hace poco en Palos de la Frontera es 0, ha hecho posible que en las cuestas públicas sigan encontrando financiación todos los programas sociales que en estos momentos hay, así como un Plan Especial de Empleo dotado con un millón de euros, explicaba el primer edil. En el presupuesto de Gastos, la mayoría de los Programas Sociales encuentran partidas en los capítulos IV y VII. Así en Transferencias Corrientes (cap. IV) destacan 335.000 € para el Plan Especial de Fomento del Empleo que contemplan ayudas de 150 € mensuales para los autónomos durante 3 años y 400 o 500 € al mes para las empresas que contraten a jóvenes desempleados. En este mismo capitulo se prevén 40.000 € para la Bolsa de emergencia Social; 75.000 € para los Cheques Bebé; 172.000 € para la Promoción Educativa, que incluye entre otros el programa Beca Matrícula o; 40.000 € para Becas en el Extranjero. En transferencias de capital (cap. VII) encontramos consignación para los Cheques Bañera, 40.000 €; los portátiles para estudiantes, 68.000 €; los Cheques viviendas y las Bonificaciones Hipotecarias para las VPO, 360.000 € o; el convenio con la UHU para los estudios del Puerto y el Castillo, 84.000 €. En el capítulo de Activos financieros se recogen partidas para los Pósitos Vivienda, 320.000; los Pósitos para Estudios en el Extranjero, 50.000 € y los Pósitos Bebé, 80.000 €. En los capítulos I, II, IV, V, VII y VIII el gasto se mantiene más o menos en los mismos parámetros que en el ejercicio pasado. Sin embargo destaca la disminución en el capitulo de Gastos Financieros que pasa de 340.000 € en 2014 a 10.000 € en 2015 al haberse amortizado anticipadamente todas los prestamos que tenía el Consistorio con entidades financieras.

ThinkPads seem to be undergoing a design evolution that's slowly seeping into the whole product line. The Edge series was the start of the ThinkPad redesign, introducing a new, modern raised island-style keyboard and larger touch pad, along with a sleeker chassis. While recent laptops including the ThinkPad X1 have also appropriated this new look, we find the Edge series comes off slightly more relaxed.Earlier in 2011, we reviewed the IdeaPad U260, a stylish Lenovo consumer-oriented laptop with slick looks and a 12.5-inch screen, but an underwhelming battery. The ThinkPad Edge E220s offers a newer, faster CPU, a better battery, and nearly the same size and feel.The ThinkPad Edge E220s is covered top to bottom with a rubberized finish that's soft to the touch, similar to that of the IdeaPad U260 and ThinkPad X1. While the E220s looks like it is black at first glance, under the right light it looks like a very, very dark green. It's a different tone than the keyboard, which is true black. A chromed plastic edge lines the top lid and the keyboard deck, highlighting the curved lines around the front lip.

Inside, the keyboard-to-palm-rest proportion seems perfect: a full raised keyboard isn't quite edge-to-edge, but doesn't waste space, while the palm rests flank a medium-size square multitouch click pad. The glossy 12.5-inch display is covered with edge-to-edge glass, and it looks sharp: it's a clean overall effect. However, the Edge has a little more flex and plastic in its chassis than the tanklike roll-cage construction of the ThinkPad X1. It's a different product--the X1 is more expensive and a larger laptop--but it bears mentioning. The Edge E220s is a perfect marriage of size and design for its weight class; this is the sort of laptop we'd prefer to carry in our bag on a daily basis.We're big fans of the ThinkPad Edge keyboard design, and the E220s' keyboard feels as good as we remember. Lenovo's variation on the raised keyboard uses slightly concave keys, which offer a more centered feel when typing fast. The ThinkPad X1 had a similar keyboard that felt a bit crisper, but we found typing on the Edge E220s to be a breeze. Instead of a backlit keyboard, the E220s has a small overhead LED light that shines down from the upper lid (which some ThinkPads have had for years) to illuminate the keyboard and surrounding area. It's actually a very smart idea for plane travel--it's cozy, like a book light for ThinkPads.

Similarly, the improved click-pad design on this ThinkPad Edge solves the reduced finger-space problem introduced by the red rubber trackpoint and its included discrete buttons. The red nub, a perennial ThinkPad offering, isn't something we use, but some business travelers swear by it. That red nub sits between the G, H, and B keys on the keyboard, but the addition of three accompanying physical buttons below the space bar used to crowd the track pad when it, too, used discrete buttons. Now, the free space feels better proportioned. The smooth click-pad surface responds well and has cleanly clicking zones on the bottom, although it collects fingerprint smudges.A fingerprint reader on the right palm rest can be set to any finger for biometric log-ins without passwords. The rest of the interior of the Edge E220s is button-free, with the exception of the power button on the upper right. Media controls such as volume and screen brightness are executed with the function button strip on the keyboard, and are function-reversed, and you can simply press the volume key directly.

The glossy 16:9-ratio 12.5-inch screen on the ThinkPad Edge E220s has a pretty standard-for-laptops resolution of 1,366x768 pixels, which looks sharper on the slightly smaller screen than it does on a 13-inch laptop. Screen brightness is above average, although the viewing angles degenerate quickly when the screen is tilted too far. Then again, the Edge E220s's top lid only opens up about 135 degrees instead of the near-180 tilting on some ThinkPads. Basically, this means you'll likely be viewing the E220s' screen head-on most of the time, anyway.The stereo speakers situated in a grilled bar above the keyboard are enhanced with Dolby sound. This makes a difference when listening to movies and music: while it's not enthusiast-level, this is one of the best-sounding tiny ThinkPads we've encountered. Volume levels get loud, and we made do with just half-volume most of the time. Being a "premium" level ThinkPad Edge, the E220s not surprisingly comes with an HD Web cam that's better than you'd normally find on a 12-inch-class laptop. The maximum 1,280x720-pixel-resolution camera has good contrast and light sensitivity, and Lenovo's Web conferencing audio settings have pro features such as keyboard noise suppression.

Networking Ethernet, 802.11n Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, optional WiMax/mobile broadband Ethernet, 802.11n Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, optional mobile broadband The selection of ports on the ThinkPad Edge E220s is more than suitable for its size--in fact, it matches what you'd find on most 13-inch and larger laptops. Three USB 2.0 ports--one of which is an eSATA combo--are efficiently placed along the sides, along with VGA and HDMI. USB 3.0 isn't present, but most people don't even use it yet. Bluetooth (a $20 extra) and the presence of Intel Wireless Display (a feature on a great number of Intel-powered 2011 laptops that requires a sold-separately receiver box for your TV) offer additional connectivity options. A rear SIM card slot is easily accessible for 3G broadband-enabled configurations. WiMax is available as an option for an extra $55.Our configuration of the Edge E220s came with a Core i5-2537M CPU, 4GB of RAM, and a 320GB, 7200rpm hard drive, which currently costs $819 on Lenovo's Web site. The E220s starts at $749, with a Core i5 processor, 2GB of RAM, and a 250GB, 5400rpm hard drive. Windows 7 Professional costs an extra $50 to preinstall; upgrading from 2GB to 4GB of RAM costs $80; upgrading from a 250GB 5,400rpm hard drive to 320GB and 7,200rpm costs $70; or, a 128GB SSD option costs $350.

With a 14-inch screen, the Acer Aspire TimelineX 4820T seems like a good compromise between an ultra-portable and a desktop-replacement laptop. It's currently available for around £450 from Laptops Direct and other vendors, but is it the ideal laptop for busy souls who cart their computer around everywhere they go?Before we find out, note that the exact model number of our review sample is AS4820T-373G32Mnks or, alternatively, LX.PSN02.207.Measuring 342mm wide, the 4820T feels more portable than larger, 15-inch machines, yet also more comfortable to use than smaller, 13-inch ultra-portables. Weighing in at 2.2kg, it isn't the lightest laptop around, though.The 4820T's design isn't exactly mind-blowing, but the combination of the black brushed-metal effect on the lid and the sober grey that adorns the wrist rest makes for a machine that looks very business-like. The laptop's good build quality also inspires confidence that it should stand up to the knocks and scrapes of daily use.The 4820T's display has a glossy coating, but it isn't as reflective as some we've come across, so working under bright overhead lights isn't really a problem, as long as you position the screen correctly. The display's resolution of 1,366x768 pixels is pretty standard for a laptop in this price range, and the viewing angles on both the horizontal and vertical axes are pretty good. The screen could be brighter, though -- something that would also help colours to shine through more.

The keyboard uses flat keys perched on top of narrow stems, so they have the appearance of floating above the laptop's chassis. Acer has used a similar design to great effect on other keyboards, but this one flexes slightly, so it doesn't feel quite as solid and responsive to type on. Nevertheless, the wide trackpad is excellent and the long, narrow button beneath it is also top-notch. The HDMI port makes it easy to hook the laptop up to a hi-def TV. Ports aren't exactly abundant. For example, there's no eSATA port or PC Card slot. This isn't unusual at this price point, though, and you still get three USB ports, which you can use for connecting up peripherals like external hard drives.We also like the fact that the laptop includes an HDMI port alongside the VGA out. An HDMI port makes it much easier to connect the laptop to a high-definition TV, as both audio and video are carried across a single lead.

The machine supports both 802.11n Wi-Fi and Gigabit Ethernet, but not, sadly, Bluetooth. Most people probably won't be all that bothered about this, though. If you really want to add this functionality, you can now get tiny plug-in USB Bluetooth adaptors that sit almost flush with the chassis, for around £5 online. My MacBook Air has been down to about 2 hours of battery life and I finally looked into what the problem might be. At the same my friend who had the same issue took her MBA to the Apple Store and the guy there "fixed" hers. He didn't explain what he did but after some digging we figured out that he reset the System Management Controller.After doing a full backup I reset mine and now the machine says I have 3 hours 40 minutes of battery life available, though I do have wifi turned off, which seems to really eat up the charge.The System Management Controller is an integrated circuit (computer chip) that is on the logic board of the computer. As the name implies, it is responsible for power management of the computer. It controls backlighting, hard disk spin down, sleep and wake, some charging aspects, trackpad control, and some input/output as it relates to the computer sleeping.

Over time, the settings in the System Management Controller may become unusable, which can result in operational anomalies with the computer. Examples include not turning on, not waking from sleep, not charging the battery, or not recognizing the AC Adapter, among others. On another note I have seen this machine do some weird things with the memory usage. There have been several times when I quit all my apps and the MBA is still using 90% of the memory. We don't expect every new gadget to completely change the face of technology, but we do like to see at least some progress when we unwrap the latest parcel from the postman. Progress in the world of netbooks seems sluggish these days, so the Acer Aspire One 522 is very welcome. This 10.1-inch machine offers a better-than-usual screen, an HDMI port and a dual-core AMD processor -- all for £250 or thereabouts.The 522's design is very pleasant, if unremarkable. Except for a blue LED that surrounds the power switch, the netbook looks charmingly understated. It comes in either black or green. Our green version looked rather classy, thanks to the glossy finish on the lid and the metallic effect on the wrist rest.

The screen is surrounded by a glossy black plastic bezel, and the keyboard stretches right up to the edges of the chassis. We were impressed by how light this netbook is. Our model tipped the scales at a modest 1.2kg, including its three-cell lithium-ion battery. A version with a six-cell battery is also available, weighing 1.3kg.You won't have any trouble squeezing this netbook into a satchel, backpack or handbag, thanks to its slender dimensions. It measures 259 by 26 by 185mm. Peering at it from the side, the 522 indeed looks quite slim.A netbook lives and dies by its keyboard. After all, what's the point in buying a netbook if you're going to end up making so many typing mistakes that you'll feel like snapping it over your knee? Happily, the 522's keyboard is rather good. We didn't notice the keyboard wobbling as we rattled off sentences, and indeed the whole chassis feels reassuringly solid.There are a few issues, though. The enter and delete keys are really small, and that's bound to get irritating. There's also a small gap between each key, so you'll need to take care not to scatter crumbs over the keyboard, or they may vanish inside the 522 forever.

Als teurere und leistungsfähigere Konkurrenz zum neuen Aldi-Notebook, dem Medion MD 95400, bietet Lebensmitteldiscounter Plus nun in seinem Online-Shop das Gericom-Notebook EGO GT 1780. Während beide mit einem Pentium M 735 ausgestattet sind, verfügt das Plus-Notebook über ein höher auflösendes Display und passend dazu ATIs X800-basierte Radeon Mobility 9800. Der mit 1,7 GHz getaktete Pentium M Prozessor 735 mit 2 MByte Level-2-Cache sowie 512 MByte DDR-Arbeitsspeicher stecken auf einem Mainboard mit Intels 855-PM-Chipsatz. Der Mobility Radeon 9800 ist ATIs bisher leistungsfähigster Notebook-AGP-Grafikchip, das Gericom-Gerät stellt ihm 128 MByte eigenen Grafikspeicher zur Seite. Damit ist das Notebook vor allem interessant für Fans von aufwendigeren 3D-Spielen.

Die Darstellung erfolgt auf einem 15-Zoll-LCD im 4:3-Format und einer hohen Auflösung von 1.400 x 1.050 Bildpunkten (SXGA+). Eine kratzfeste Oberfläche soll das LCD des von Quanta für Gericom gefertigten Notebooks etwas unempfindlicher machen. VGA-Adapterstecker aufwarten - bietet das EGO GT 1780 auch einen Fernsehausgang. Die restlichen Schnittstellen: WLAN nach IEEE 802.11b/g, 10/100-Mbps-Ethernet, 56K-Modem, PC-Card Typ II, 3x USB 2.0, Firewire 400, Parallel-Port, Mikrofon-Eingang und Kopfhöreranschluss. Der 8-Zellen-Lithium-Ionen-Akku des 2,9 kg wiegenden Gericom EGO GT 1780 soll laut Plus ca. 4 Stunden durchhalten. Laut eines Testberichts der PC-Welt schafft das leistungsfähige Gerät in der Realität aber nur rund 2,15 Stunden und geht zudem mit 29,2 dB(A) nicht gerade ruhig zu Werk. Dafür soll es auch unter Volllast mit 31,8 dB(A) kaum lauter gewesen sein. Das Gehäuse des Plus-Notebooks ist 33 x 28 x 3,3-3,7 cm groß.Zum Lieferumfang gehört ein Softwarepaket aus Windows XP Home, Cyberlinks Multimedia-Anwendungen DVD Solution 3, PowerDVD, PowerDirector, PowerProducer, Power2Go und Medi@Show sowie AOL 9.0 und DivX Pro. Mit Phoenix Recover Pro soll im Problemfall eine Systemwiederherstellung erleichtert werden.Plus verkauft das Gericom EGO GT 1780 seit kurzem über seinen Online-Shop für 1.399,- Euro. Das am 23./24. Februar 2005 kommende, weniger 3D-Leistung und LCD-Auflösung bietende Aldi-Gerät kostet 100 Euro weniger.

Sony hat als neues Modell auf der PMA in Orlando eine 5-Megapixel-Kamera vorgestellt, die auf eine 12fach-Zoom-Vergrößerung kommt. Der Brennweitenbereich liegt nach 35-mm-Kleinbildverhältnissen bei 36 bis 432 Millimetern. Die Anfangsblendenöffnungen liegen bei für diese Brennweite hervorragenden F 2,8 bis F 3,7. Die Sony DSC-H1 Cyber-shot bietet auf der Rückseite ein 2,5-Zoll-LCD mit einer Auflösung von 115.000 Pixeln. Die Kamera bietet eine Anti-Verwackelungstechnologie, nur teilte Sony bislang nicht mit, ob diese mechanisch oder elektronisch geregelt wird. Die Kamera besitzt übrigens anstelle eines optischen einen digitalen Sucher mit einer Auflösung von 115.000 Bildpunkten.Die Kamera arbeitet mit einem Fünfpunkt-Autofokus und kann auch auf Spotmessung umgeschaltet werden. Zur besseren Kontrolle über das Bildergebnis kann man neben einer Programmautomatik auch Zeit- und Blendenprioritäten festlegen oder alle Parameter selbst bestimmen. Gleiches gilt auch für die Bestimmung des Weißpunktes, den man manuell, anhand einiger Voreinstellungen für typische Lichtsituationen oder vollkommen manuell vornehmen kann.

Der Apparat arbeitet im ISO-Bereich von 100, 200 und 400, den das Gerät auf Wunsch selbst festlegen kann. Die Belichtungszeiten rangieren je nach Betriebsart zwischen 1/8 und 1/2000 Sekunde im Automatikbetrieb oder bis auf 30 Sekunden herunter im vollständig manuellen Betrieb. Bilderserien sind mit einer Geschwindigkeit von 0,7 Bildern pro Sekunde mit bis zu 9 Bildern hintereinander möglich. Filme mit 640 x 480 Pixeln und 30 Bildern kann man ebenfalls aufnehmen. Die Länge dieser vertonten Filme ist nur durch die Speicherkarten-Kapazität begrenzt.Die Kamera verfügt über einen internen Speicherplatz von 30 MByte und arbeitet mit Memory Sticks (auch als Pro-Version) als Speichermedium. Die USB-Schnittstelle ist PictBridge-kompatibel. Damit können die aufgenommenen Bilder ganz ohne Computer mit geeigneten Druckern auf direktem Wege zu Papier gebracht werden.Die DSC-H1 ist mit einem ausklappbaren Blitzlicht ausgestattet, dessen Reichweite der Hersteller bislang nicht angab. Mit Strom wird die Kamera über zwei AA-Akkus bzw. Batterien versorgt.

Die Sony Cybershot DSC-H1 misst 108 x 81 x 82 mm und bringt mit Akku, Medium und Handschlaufe 460 Gramm auf die Waage.Als Zubehör gibt es einen 0,7x-Weitwinkel-Konverter sowie einen 1,7x-Teleaufsatz. Die Optiken sollen ab Mitte Juni für jeweils rund 160,- Euro erscheinen. Die Kamera selbst soll für 600,- Euro im Juni 2005 auf den Markt kommen.Olympus hat seine keilförmige µ-mini-Digitalkamera-Reihe um ein neues Modell aufgewertet. Die µ-mini Digital S kommt wieder in einem wetterfesten Metallgehäuse daher und bietet jetzt eine Auflösung von 5 Megapixeln. Der Objektivschutz verschwindet beim Einschalten der Kamera im Innern des Gehäuses und das Zoom-Objektiv mit einer Brennweite von 35 bis 70 mm (bezogen auf eine 35-mm-Kamera) mit F3,5 bzw. 4,9 fährt aus. Die Nahgrenze liegt bei 8 cm. Dazu kommt noch ein 4fach digitales Zoom.

Die Kamerasteuerung und die Bildkontrolle erfolgen über ein 1,8-Zoll-Display mit einer Auflösung von 134.000 Pixeln und Betrachtungswinkeln von 160 Grad in beide Hauptrichtungen. Die Kamera bietet 14 verschiedene Aufnahmeprogramme einschließlich Porträt, Strand und Schnee sowie Sonnenuntergang und beinhaltet Funktionen zur Bildbearbeitung inklusive der Modi Fisheye und Soft-Fokus, das die Bildaufnahmen nachträglich in der Kamera verfremdet.Die Lichtempfindlichkeit kann zwar auch von der Kamera automatisch beinflusst werden, doch auch eine manuelle Kontrolle zwischen ISO 64, 100, 200 und 400 ist möglich. Auch der Weißabgleich muss nicht der Kameraelektronik anvertraut werden, sondern kann auch manuell vorgenommen werden. Die Spotmessung für Fokus- und Belichtungseinstellung bietet zusätzliche Flexibilität.Die Länge der vertonten Filmsequenzen (320 x 240 Pixel/ 15 Bilder/Sekunde), die man mit der Kamera aufzeichnen kann, wird dabei nur durch die verfügbare Speicherkapazität der xD-Picture Card begrenzt. Die Kamera verfügt über einen USB-Anschluss und ist PictBridge-kompatibel. Im Lieferumfang sind eine 16 MByte große xD-Picture Card sowie ein Lithium-Ionen-Akku plus Ladegerät, ein USB-/AV-Kabel und die Olympus-Master-1.1-Software enthalten.

Der Spritzwasserschutz der Kamera entspricht der IEC-Norm 529 IPX4. Für heftigere Umweltbedingungen gibt es jedoch ein optionales Schutzgehäuse, das die Wasserdichtigkeit bis zu einem Druck entsprechend drei Meter Wassertiefe gewährleistet, womit nach Herstellerangaben beispielsweise Schnorcheln, Surfen oder Snowboarden möglich sein soll. Als Zubehör gibt es verschiedene Taschen im Kameraformat: eine Ledertasche in Schwarz oder Rot und eine PVC-Tasche in Dunkelblau, Beige oder Orange.Die Olympus µ-mini Digital S misst 95 x 55,5 x 27,5 mm und wiegt leer 115 g. Sie soll ab April 2005 in den Gehäusefarben Blau, Schwarz und Beige erhältlich sein. Den Preis teilte der Hersteller noch nicht mit.Hewlett-Packard hat mit der Photosmart R717 die Nachfolgerin der R707 vorgestellt, die ihr mit ihrem Metallgehäuse und vielen technischen Funktionen auch sehr ähnelt. Das neue Modell arbeitet jetzt mit 6,2 Megapixeln (2.864 x 2.160 Pixel), einem dreifach optischen Zoom und einem danach einsetzenden 8fach digitalen Zoom. Die Kameraoptik deckt einen Brennweitenbereich von 39 bis 117 mm (35 mm Äquivalent) bei Anfangsblendenöffnungen von F2.8 bis F4.8 ab. Die Nahgrenze liegt bei 14 cm. Das 1,8-Zoll-LCD bietet eine Auflösung von ungefähr 130.000 Pixeln.

Die HP Photosmart R717 verfügt über ein Autofokus-System, das neben der Spot- auch eine Mehrfeldmessung ermöglicht. Die Kamera bietet eine mittenbetonte Belichtungsmessung, Punktmessung und Durchschnittswertmessung.Die Belichtungszeiten rangieren bei dem Apparat zwischen 16 und 1/2.000 Sekunde, die Lichtempfindlichkeit ist zwischen ISO 50, 100, 200, 400 justierbar. Dies kann man entweder der Kamera überlassen oder selbst einstellen. Auch bei der Einstellung des Weißabgleichs kann man der Kamera-Elektronik die Arbeit überlassen oder selbst eine Einstellung vornehmen.Die HP Photosmart R717 bietet mehrere Belichtungsprogramme und verfügt mit der HP Adaptive Lighting Technology über eine Technik, die immer dann eingesetzt werden kann, wenn das Fotomotiv von starken Kontrasten bestimmt wird, wie zum Beispiel bei Außenaufnahmen mit gemischten Lichtverhältnissen aus Sonne und Schatten oder blendendem Licht und Innenaufnahmen mit Blitzlicht. Über HP Adaptive Demosaicing sollen sich Kompressions- und Interpolationsartefakte reduzieren lassen.

Unterwegs mitgeführt, erweitert der iPod photo die Speicherkapazität der Digitalkamera, so dass sich weitere Aufnahmen machen lassen.

Die importierten Fotos können auf dem 65.000-Farben-Farbdisplay des iPod photo begutachtet werden und nach einem Abgleich mit iPhoto auf dem Mac oder anderen Fotoanwendungen auf dem PC der eigenen Fotosammlung auf dem Computer hinzugefügt werden. Die neuen Geräte mit dem Namen D-snap SV-AS3 sind mit einem 3,2-Megapixel-Sensor ausgerüstet, der eine maximale Foto-Auflösung von 2.016 x 1.512 Pixeln aufweist und MPEG4-Videos mit 320 x 240 Pixeln sowie 30 Bildern pro Sekunde inklusive Ton aufzeichnen kann. Die Brennweite des Objektivs beträgt bezogen auf das Kleinbildformat 35 mm. Die D-snap DMC-SV-AS3 arbeitet mit ISO-Empfindlichkeiten von ISO 100, 200 und 400. Die Belichtungszeiten rangieren zwischen 1 und 1/2000 Sekunde. Zur Belichtungssteuerung wird eine Programmautomatik eingesetzt.

Den Weißabgleich kann man der Kamera überlassen, einige Voreinstellungen wählen oder selbst durchführen. Ein kleines eingebautes Blitzlicht erhellt die nächste Umgebung bis zu einer Entfernung von 1,2 Metern.Als Musik-Abspielgerät kann die D-snap SV-AS3 bis zu 40 Stunden Musikdateien der Formate MP3, WMA und AAC wiedergeben. Daneben gestattet das eingebaute Mikrofon Videoaufnahmen mit Ton und Sprachnotizen.Die Kamera misst 52,5 x 88,7 x 21,2 mm und wiegt 75,1 Gramm leer und 103,7 Gramm mit SD-Karte und Akku.Die unverbindliche Preisempfehlung für die D-snap SV-AS3, die ab März 2005 in den Farben Orange, Blau und Silber erhältlich sein soll, beträgt 299,- Euro.Kodak hat mit der Easyshare Z7590 eine Digitalkamera mit einem Auflösungsvermögen von 5 Megapixeln und einem 10fach-Zoom vorgestellt, das eine Brennweite von 38 bis 380 mm (bezogen auf 35-mm-Kleinbild) bei Anfangslichtstärken von F2,8 bzw. im Telebereich F3,7 abdeckt. Das 2,2-Zoll-Display hat eine Auflösung von 153.000 Pixeln. Anstelle eines optischen Suchers ist ein elektronischer Sucher mit einer Auflösung von 311.000 Pixeln eingebaut worden.

Die Kamera bietet neben einer Belichtungsautomatik auch eine Blenden- und Verschlusspriorität sowie einen rein manuellen Modus an. Die Verschlusszeiten rangieren im Automatikmodus von 1/8 bis 1/1700 Sekunde und im manuellen Modus von 16 bis 1/1000 Sekunden.Die ISO-Empfindlichkeit wird im Automatikmodus zwischen 80 und 160 und im manuellen Modus zwischen 80, 100, 200, 400 und 800 wählbar sein. Der Autofokus arbeitet entweder im Mehrzonen- oder im mittenbetonten Modus. Auch die eingeschränkt freie Wahl des Messbereichs (Links, Zentriert, Rechts) ist möglich. Eine manuelle Scharfstellung ist leider nicht möglich.Die Belichtungsmessung erfolgt per Matrix- bzw. Mehrzonenmessung, mittenbetont oder als Spotmessung. Beim Weißabgleich hat man die Wahl zwischen einer Automatikfunktion oder mehreren voreingestellten Farbtemperaturen. Auch ein kleiner Blitz ist in die Kamera eingebaut, dessen Reichweite der Hersteller leider nicht angab.Die Kamera kann bis zu fünf Bilder in Serie mit einer Geschwindigkeit von zwei Bildern pro Sekunde aufnehmen. Darüber hinaus steht ein Modus zur Auswahl, der aus einer Aufnahme von bis zu 30 Bildern bei zwei Bildern pro Sekunde die letzten vier Bilder speichert.

Zudem kann die Kamera Videos samt Ton im Format 640 x 480 Pixel bei zwölf Bildern pro Sekunde oder in 320 x 240 Pixeln bei 20 Bildern pro Sekunde mit MPEG-4-Komprimierung aufzeichnen. Das Gerät bietet einen internen Speicher von 32 MByte und speichert ansonsten auf SD-/MMC-Speicherkarten. Die Kamera ist mit einem USB-2.0-Anschluss ausgerüstet und kann mit der Kodak-Easyshare-Druckerstation verbunden werden, die den Ausdruck randloser Fotos im Format 10 cm x 15 cm in weniger als 2 Minuten erlaubt.Die Kodak Easyshare Z7590 ist 9,96 x 8,12 x 7,99 cm groß und wiegt ohne Akku und Speicherkarte 350 Gramm. Die Kamera soll ab Mai 2005 erhältlich sein. Der Preis ist noch nicht bekannt.Die Supermarktkette Penny bringt ab dem 3. März 2005 ein Fujitsu-Siemens-Notebook für knapp unter 800,- Euro auf den Markt. Das AMILO L7300 ist mit einem Intel-Celeron-M-Prozessor 350 mit 1,30 GHz und 512 KByte Cache sowie 400 MHz FSB ausgestattet und verfügt über ein 15-Zoll-XGA-TFT mit einer Auflösung von 1.024 x 768 Pixeln. Das Notebook arbeitet mit einer integrierten Grafiklösung namens VIA UniChrome Pro, die sich bis zu 64 MByte des Hauptspeichers reservieren kann. Das Gerät ist mit 512 MByte DDR 333 SDRAM ausgestattet. Dazu kommen eine 40 GByte große Festplatte sowie ein DVD +/-RW-Brenner mit Double-Layer-Technologie.

Das AMILO L7300 verfügt über vier USB-2.0-Schnittstellen, einmal S-Video-Out, einen VGA-Ausgang, ein Modem, ein Fast-Ethernet-LAN, einen PC-Card Slot Typ I/II sowie einen analogen Ton-Ein- und -Ausgang sowie einmal S/PDIF. Dazu kommt noch ein integiertes Wireless-LAN (IEEE 802.11g).Das Penny-Notebook arbeitet mit einem Li-Ion-Akku und soll ungefähr 2,5 Stunden ohne Netzanschluss aushalten. Das Gerät misst 330 mm x 278 mm x 35,3 mm und wiegt 2,9 kg.Das AMILO L7300 wird mit Microsoft Windows XP Home Edition und Microsoft Works 8.0 sowie einer Nero-Brennsoftware ausgeliefert und soll ab dem 3. März 2005 bei Penny für 799,- Euro erhältlich sein.

Acer bringt mit dem TravelMate 4100 eine weitere Ausgabe von Business-Notebooks auf den Markt, das mit der neuen Intel-Centrino-2-Technologie ausgestattet ist. Das Notebook ist als mobiler Desktop-Ersatz für Anwender kleiner, mittelständischer und großer Unternehmen konzipiert und wird mit Pentium-M-Prozessoren sowie einem Intel-915GM/915PM-Express-Chipsatz mit 533 MHz FSB ausgestattet. Die Travelmates der 4100er-Serie gibt es mit klassischen 15-Zoll-TFTs mit 1.024 x 768 Pixeln Auflösung oder mit einem 15,4-Zoll-Breitbildschirm mit 1.280 x 800 Pixeln. Der Arbeitsspeicher besteht aus DDR333-RAM und ist auf maximal 2 GByte über zwei soDIMM-Steckplätze aufrüstbar. Die Rechner sind mit ATA-100-Festplatten sowie mit DVD-Dual-Laufwerken versehen.Die Geräte sind je nach Ausstattung mit der integrierten Grafiklösung Intel 915GM mit bis zu 64 MByte Arbeitsspeicher oder mit einer ATI Mobility Radeon X600 mit 64 MByte eigenem VRAM ausgerüstet. Wie viele Acer-Notebooks verfügt auch dieses Gerät über eine leicht nach hinten gewölbte Tastatur, die der natürlichen Handhaltung entgegenkommen soll.

Die Notebooks der 4100er-Serie sind mit Fast-Ethernet, einem 56K-Modem sowie WLAN nach 802.11 a/b/g ausgerüstet. Bei den Schnittstellen sind 3x USB 2.0, Infrarot, VGA, S-Video-Out, Firewire400 sowie einem PC-Card-Slot vom Typ II vorhanden. Darüber hinaus sind analoge Audio-Ein- und -Ausgänge vorhanden.Der 65-Watt-Lithium-Ionen-Akku soll eine Laufzeit von 4 Stunden (mit X600) und 5,5 Stunden mit der integrierten Grafiklösung ermöglichen. Das Laden im Betrieb soll 3,5 Stunden dauern, die Schnellladung bei ausgeschaltetem Rechner 1,5 Stunden.Das Acer Travelmate 4100 misst 364 x 279 x 33,9 bzw. 38,9 mm und wiegt als 15-Zoll-Gerät 2,91 kg. Das Breitbild-Modell bringt mit 2,95 kg unwesentlich mehr Gewicht auf die Waage.Wie alle großen Digitalkamera-Hersteller hat nun auch Sony ein 7-Megapixel-Modell in der Kompaktklasse anzubieten. Die Sony Cyber-shot W7 bietet neben dieser Auflösung ein dreifach optisches Zoom mit Brennweiten von 38 bis 114 mm (im Vergleich zu KB) und einer Anfangsblendenöffnung von 2,8 bzw. 5,2. Die Nahgrenze liegt bei 6 cm. Zusätzlich zum optischen und digitalen Zoom verfügt die W7 über das von Sony entwickelte Digitalzoom. Wird mit einer geringeren als der maximalen Pixelauflösung fotografiert, verwendet die Kamera die nicht genutzten Pixel für das Smart-Zoom. Bei Aufnahmen mit einer Auflösung von 3 Megapixeln verfügt die W7 z.B. über ein 4,5faches Smart-Zoom, in VGA-Auflösung kann das Motiv bis zu 14fach herangezoomt werden.

Auf der Kamerarückseite prangt ein 2,5-Zoll-LC-Display mit 115.000 Pixeln. Die Kamera bietet neun verschiedene Motivprogramme, die für die meisten Lichtsituationen die passenden Einstellungen bieten sollten. Auf Wunsch können Belichtung und Tiefenschärfe auch manuell über Verschlusszeit und Blende eingestellt werden. Bei der W7 kommt ein automatischer 5-Punkt-Autofokus zum Einsatz. Die manuelle Scharfstellung ist nicht möglich. Dafür ist bei dieser Kamera der optische Sucher erhalten geblieben.Der manuelle Weißabgleich ist anhand von Voreinstellungen für verschiedene Lichtverhältnisse justierbar. Die W7 verfügt über eine Mehrfeldmessung über 49 Messfelder und eine Spotmessung zur richtigen Belichtungsbestimmung.Die Belichtungsgeschwindigkeiten rangieren je nach Betriebsart zwischen 1/8 und 1/2000 Sekunde bzw. bis zu 30 Sekunden im manuellen Betrieb. Ein kleines Blitzlicht mit einer Reichweite von 4,5 Metern im Weitwinkel und 2,5 Metern im Telebereich ist ebenfalls eingebaut.

Die Kamera soll in 1,3 Sekunden nach dem Einschalten voll einsatzbereit sein und arbeitet mit einer Auslöseverzögerung von 0,3 Sekunden. Die Bildfolgezeit liegt bei voller Auflösung bei 1,5 Fotos pro Sekunde und maximal 5 in Reihe. Wie das Schwestermodell W5 (mit 5 Megapixeln) kann die W7 Filme im MPEG-Movie-VX-Fine-Modus in einer Auflösung von 640 x 480 Pixeln und 30 Bildern pro Sekunde sowie Ton aufnehmen. Die Länge der Filme ist dabei lediglich durch die Kapazität des Speichermediums begrenzt. Der Apparat verwendet Memory-Sticks.Die W7 verfügt über eine USB-2.0-Schnittstelle mit PictBridge-Kompatibiltät zum direkten Anschluss an entsprechende Drucker. Für den Direktanschluss an Projektor oder Fernsehgerät verfügt die W7 auch über einen Video-Ausgang.Mit einer einzigen Akkuladung kann die Cyber-shot W7 bis zu 420 Fotos aufnehmen (gemessen nach dem internationalen Standard der CIPA). Und für den Fall der Fälle, dass der Memory Stick voll ist, kommt der integrierte 32-MByte-Speicher zum Einsatz.

Batería para ordenador FUJITSU LifeBook C1410

Lo que digo siempre es que es un recorrido por mi carrera artística, mis circunstancias profesionales y personales, que han hecho que yo sea la cantaora que soy hoy. Pienso que todo está ligado, por mucho que se intente separar la vida profesional de la personal. Eso se plasma en un recorrido por distintos palos del flamenco visto desde mi juventud e intentando darle, dentro de lo que cabe, mi toque personal y el aire actual que tiene el flamenco hoy día. P.- ¿Qué va a tener de diferente el espectáculo que se va a ver en Cartaya con respecto al que se mostró en Huelva? R.- La estructura del espectáculo es la misma y se realizará el mismo recorrido por los palos del flamenco, pero sonará distinto. Algunos de los músicos que me acompañan son nuevos. No quiero imponerles lo que tiene que hacer y si lo escojo es porque ya sé cómo tocan y me gusta lo que hacen. No tengo que dirigirlos tanto como que demuestren lo que sabe hacer, que tengan su personalidad y no la pierdan y estén a gusto. Por circunstancias el guitarrista que estuvo en Huelva, Alberto López, que hizo de faro en el estreno, no va a estar porque se encuentra en Japón trabajando, y Sergio De Lope, el flautista, tampoco. Me he visto obligada a meter otros músicos. Viene Sergi Gómez, que es un guitarrista catalán que lleva muchos años en Sevilla y toca muy bien y Veronika Füredl, una gran violinista de Hungría. Barajando las posibilidades de quién iba a sustituir a Sergio, que la verdad es que tiene un papel importante en la obra, se me ocurrió la idea de meter un violín y pensé que podía estar bien y le va a dar otro aire. Aparte de ellos dos también está Juanfe Pérez, que se ha incorporado al espectáculo a raíz del estreno, que tocará el bajo y también hará algo con el laúd árabe. También habrá colaboraciones especiales como la de Ángel Reyes, que aunque el viene haciendo coros y palmas, también bailará al final y la de Juan Martínez, que es un muy buen amigo mío de La Unión. Yo tengo muy buena relación con esa ciudad y he ganado premios en sus festivales. Estuve allí hace poco por el certamen de saetas y coincidí con él. Lleva tiempo con ganas de venir a Huelva a y lo animé a subir al escenario conmigo. Como hay cantes de Levante en el espectáculo, que es su especialidad, pues está loco de contento. P.-

Con motivo del estreno en Huelva le preguntaba por el recorrido que tendría esta obra y ya se ha sumado Cartaya. ¿Ve ahora más posibilidades de que se sumen más teatros a estos dos? R.- Ganas claro que tengo pero las cosas están muy complicadas. He ofertado ‘Mar de cobre’ en todos los sitios en los que he podido, aunque es cierto que hoy día la figura del manager está desapareciendo cada vez más y yo tampoco quiero que me lleve nadie porque no me fío, prefiero hacerlo yo. Hay cosas tanteadas. Quizás lo lleve a Cortegana a través de un amigo, quizás a Almonte y a Nerva, que me haría mucha ilusión porque es el pueblo de mi madre y tiene mucha relación con el espectáculo. Las cosas están muy complicadas pero mis pretensiones y lo que me gustaría es viajar con ‘Mar de Cobre’ por toda España y el extranjero, pero ahora mismo mover esa cantidad de músicos es complicado y sinceramente me niego a reducir el elenco. El espectáculo está pensado para una serie de instrumentos y no me da la gana reducirlo. Pides tanto dinero y te dicen que no y después a ‘fulanito’, el que ha salido de Gran Hermano y ahora dice que canta, le pagan el doble, por ejemplo. P.- ¿Ve a pesar que de su recorrido, del bagaje profesional que tiene, pues ha trabajado bastante en el extranjero y ahora con asiduidad en Madrid, que constantemente tiene que demostrar lo que vale y cuesta ser considerada por su juventud? R.- Sí, escucho muchas veces el típico comentario de que por mi juventud estoy empezando, cuando yo empecé con 12 años y tengo ya casi 27. Soy joven y tengo mucha carrera por delante, pero no estoy empezando. Me he esforzado en formarme, en estar en distintas escuelas, en saber y desde casi que empecé a cantar estoy subida en un escenario. Parece que siempre tienes que demostrar y tener una carta de presentación y si no vienes recomendada por alguien no vale para nada lo que hayas hecho y es un poco complicado la verdad. En Madrid me va bien, pero también como no vayas recomenda te cuesta la misma vida que te escuchen siquiera. El curriculum no importa tanto como a través de quien vienes.

P.- ¿En qué momento de su carrera se encuentra? Parece que no hay muchos cantaores que a su edad tomen la iniciativa de llevar a cabo un espectáculo tan personal y de las dimensiones y características de ‘Mar de cobre’. R.- Creo que estoy en un momento positivo. Mucha gente ha visto lo del espectáculo y me considera valiente por tomar esta decisión de echarme adelante. La verdad es que eso no abunda. Conozco el mundillo. Yo quizás vuelo demasiado alto, pero mi sueño y mi ilusión es llegar a ser como Marina Heredia, Arcángel o Estrella Morente. Puede ser que llegue o que no, pero voy a luchar por ello. Otras cantaoras me decían "anda ya, tu estás loca” y lo ven diferente y aspiran a cantar en un tablao u otro e ir viviendo. Yo de hecho es lo que estoy haciendo ahora, estoy en tablaos en Madrid y no le dedico a mi carrera como cantante solista todo lo que me gustaría, pero es mi ilusión y voy a luchar todo lo que pueda y mover mi espectáculo y hacer con él un disco y luchar por mi carrera en solitario. Muchos compañeros no tienen esas aspiraciones, muy pocos.

No sé si por falta de ganas o motivación. Es un esfuerzo muy grande. A mí me costó casi dos años de trabajo estrenar ‘Mar de Cobre’ en el Gran Teatro para que después las cosas no me salieran administrativamente del todo bien, pero me quedo con que hice realidad mi sueño, lo llevé al Gran Teatro, lo estrené en mi tierra y estoy contenta. P.- ¿Cómo surge la idea de convertir ‘Mar de cobre’ en disco y en qué punto se encuentra este proyecto? R.- A raíz de la puesta en marcha del espectáculo todo el mundo pensaba que ‘Mar de cobre’ era la representación de un disco y he tenido que aclarar mucho que es un espectáculo y no un disco. La verdad es que este verano empecé a plantearmelo y dándole vueltas con la euforia del concierto, que salió muy bien y me gustó, lo he estado madurando. Lo hablé con Juanfe, que tiene su pequeño estudio portátil y me dijo que hacer un disco no vale tanto como yo pensaba y que había varias opciones. Ahora estoy preparando la campaña de crowdfounding y no sé cuando será el mejor momento para lanzarla. Todavía va a tardar. P.- Supongo que tener una pareja que es músico es un importante punto de apoyo R.- La verdad es que sí, estoy muy contenta en ese aspecto. A él no lo puedo encasillar, es bajista, es guitarrista… es músico. Tiene la carrera del conservatorio de guitarra flamenca y le encanta la musica y lo mismo lo ves escuchando a Alain Pérez tocando salsa o rumba o lo que sea, que esuchando música clásica o rock, King Crimson, o a Enrque Morente. Escucha mucha música distinta. Vivimos juntos y me enriquece y me aporta bastante. Él tiene una filosofía muy bonita. Él hace esto para disfrutar, le gusta la música, la ha oido desde pequeño en casa, su padre tocaba la guitarra y es su pasión. Para pasarlo mal no, y si tiene que decirle a alguien que no lo hace, tiene las cosas muy claras. P.- ¿Qué importancia le da a las redes sociales como ayuda en su carrera? R.- Ahora la presencia en redes sociales pienso que es fundamental.

Que tengas tu página web, que esté bien, que esté actualizada, que tengas tus redes sociales considero que es muy importante. Lo hablo con muchos compañeros que me dicen que pasan de esto porque es verdad que es sacrificado el estar pendiente siempre de poner cosas en Facebook y Twitter, pero es que a mí, aunque me quita mucho tiempo, se lo dedico porque creo que es necesario y más hoy día. Por ahí es por donde mucha gente aprecia que te estás moviendo y haciendo cosas, se ve lo que haces. Esas publicaciones en redes sociales tiene que ser reflejo del movimiento que hay en tu trabajo. Tuve una mala experiencia con quien me llevaba antes las redes sociales y prefiero hacerlo yo. También es que yo siempre, aunque empecé con 12 años, y era pequeña, mis padres siempre me han dado la posiblidad de tomar mis decisiones y de hacer siempre lo que me ha apetecido y me ha dado la gana. He estado en los sitios donde yo he querido estar y siempre he llevado las riendas en mi carrera, entonces dárselas a otra persona o delegar me cuesta mucho, no puedo. No me gusta que tomen decisiones por mí. P.-

En Semana Santa participó con éxito en el Certamen de Saetas de La Unión y cantó en la procesión, ¿cómo fue la experiencia? R.- Éste ha sido el tercer año que me he presentado al concurso de saetas y en esta ocasión el 25 aniversario del certamen tenía un premio especial a los cantes mineros de pasión. Son cantes de levante pero con letras alusivas al Cristo de los Mineros, que es la imagen más representativa de la Semana Santa de allí. Estaba muy nerviosa porque hacía bastante tiempo que no me presentaba a un concurso. Salió bien, me dieron el segundo premio y el especial a los cantes mineros de pasión. Yo ya sabía lo que era la Semana Santa minera porque habia estado otros años y tengo dos segundos premios de allí y es muy pecular, porque sale todas las imágenes en procesión el Jueves Santo, son unas cinco o seis, y el último es el Cristo de los Mineros, que va en un portapasos y lo llevan por fuera, sin costaleros debajo. Hay elementos mineros por toda la procesión, tanto vagonetas, como picos, palas, el carburo… Antes sacaban al Cristo los mineros y le cantaban durante el recorrido cantes de Levante, mineras, levanticas… y rescatar esa costumbre ha sido muy bonito y muy emotivo. La imagen que tengo ahora mismo es la del Cristo delante de mí y yo cantando, con mucho frío. En otras ocasiones lo han parado delante de mí y esta vez lo estaban bailando. Fue muy especial y me emocioné muchísimo, se me saltaron las lágrimas y la gente también se emocionó mucho. El Ayuntamiento de Palos de la Frontera, gobernado por el PP, ha hecho entrega de 42 nuevos kits tecnológicos a estudiantes de la localidad. En concreto, el pasado viernes el alcalde palermo, Carmelo Romero, junto a la concejal de Educación y Juventud, Lucía Núñez, ha hecho entrega a los palermos beneficiarios de 22 kits tecnológicos a estudiantes de Formación Profesional, Bachillerato y Estudios Universitarios de la localidad, que se suman a los 20 entregados a comienzos de mes.

"Es indudable que hoy día tener un equipo informático es casi una necesidad por lo que hace ya algunos años en Palos creímos que sería un acierto poner esta herramienta básica al servicio de nuestros estudiantes", ha comentado el primer edil, según ha informado el Consistorio en una nota de prensa. Estos kits están compuestos por un portátil, un maletín para el transporte, un soporte y una memoria USB de 16 Gb. El ordenador es de última generación con Wifi, lector de tarjetas, webcam y disco duro de gran capacidad. Así, estos modernos equipos están valorados en el mercado en 800 euros aproximadamente cada uno, "un esfuerzo para las arcas municipales y la ciudadanía en general que ha de ser ahora usado con responsabilidad por sus nuevos dueños", según ha manifestado el alcalde. A esta entrega se le une otra realizada a principios del mes de abril, en la cual 20 equipos fueron entregados a otros estudiantes de la localidad. De esta manera el Ayuntamiento ha otorgado más de 40 kits tecnológicos en tan solo una semana.

Durante la entrega, Carmelo Romero ha destacado que para el Consistorio es "una prioridad ayudar" a los estudiantes para que estos cuenten con todos los medios necesarios para sus estudios. "Algo que en un futuro va a repercutirles personalmente pero también a toda la sociedad", ha agregado. Estas entregas se enmarcan en el programa 'Palos, Ciudad Digital' y buscan ayudar a los jóvenes en sus estudios, otorgándoles una herramienta básica y adaptada a las necesidades formativas actuales. Hasta la fecha se han entregado más de mil kits tecnológicos a jóvenes de Palos de la Frontera.El delegado especial de Andalucía, Ceuta y Melilla de la Agencia Estatal Tributaria, Alberto García Valera, estima que más del 75 por ciento de las declaraciones de la Renta que presenten los contribuyentes andaluces en la campaña de renta 2015, que comienza este miércoles, serán declaraciones a devolver, por una cantidad que podría superar los 1.700 millones de euros. En una entrevista con Canal Sur Televisión, recogida por Europa Press, García Valera estima que los contribuyentes andaluces pueden superar las 3,3 millones de declaraciones. Ha indicado que de la campaña del año pasado ya están devueltas casi la práctica totalidad "y las que no lo están es porque se está comprobando la veracidad de los datos".

ASUS G55VW Battery

The Sony Vaio VPCYB2M1E matches decent components with fair battery life, and wraps it up in a slim, attractive shell. If you're after a lightweight netbook to keep close to you at all times, but don't want to sacrifice on performance, the Y series may well be a good option. Stay tuned for our full review soon.We've got a feeling that netbooks are on the way out. These diminutive little laptops may soon be replaced by sultry, sleek tablets such as the iPad 2, or even hybrid Android slates with attachable keyboards such as the Asus Eee Pad Transformer.But as long as netbooks are kicking around, we'll keep reviewing 'em, and this one's a corker -- the MSI U270, an 11.6-inch netbook that can be yours for about £360. It's pricier than many of its breed, but it packs a dual-core processor and 2GB of RAM. A 12.1-inch model is also available.Visually, the U270 looks exactly like... a netbook. There's not a great deal of visual flair exhibited here -- a dotted pattern over the lid and wrist rest slightly jazzes up the proceedings, but this isn't the most ostentatious little machine we've ever set eyes on.

It might not be flashy on the lid-side, but the design is certainly practical on the interior -- the keyboard is sensibly spaced out, with a generous gap left between each key, to cut down on mistakes while typing. The keyboard generally is impressive, and because it feels sturdy, you'll be able to really hammer out missives at speed. Our only gripe is that the Enter key is rather small -- you might find your pinky finger missing its mark occasionally.The trackpad is not as impressive, sadly. It's very small, as are the click buttons, which feel just a little stiff, and could tire your thumb out after a long Web-cruising session.It's reasonably light at 1.3kg, and measures 297 by 190 by 31mm. The battery pack adds quite a lot of bulk though, so bear that in mind if you're stuffing this netbook into a slim satchel. Happily the power transformer is quite small.Around the edges there's a decent smattering of ports -- we're especially happy to see both VGA and HDMI outputs, three USB ports (one of which is USB 3.0), Ethernet, a multi-format card reader and 3.5mm sockets for headphones and a mic. There's a webcam stuck above the display too. The U270 is running Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit, and packs a 320GB hard drive.

Speaking of the display, this is a rather unusual screen. For one thing, it has an anti-glare coating, and it's also boasting a curiously high resolution of 1,366x768 pixels, which is higher than most netbooks can muster. A more standard 1,024x600-pixel resolution model is also be available for around £20 less, which we think is a definitely a false economy.The extra resolution means photos look crisp and sharp, and websites feel pleasantly roomy. The anti-glare coating means you'll have a deal of success if you want to use the U270 outdoors, and you won't have your surfing sessions ruined by irritating reflections.This laptop is designed primarily for life on the go, so Fujitsu has decided not to include a DVD drive. Despite this, the P701 isn't the thinnest ultraportable we've come across, as it still measures 33mm thick. The design won't win any awards either, with the matte silver and black paint job looking a tad dull.That said, the matte finish is less likely to show up scratches than the glossy paint jobs on many of its rivals, and the P701's build quality can't be faulted, which is important for a laptop that's likely to spend a lot of time on the road.

Keyboards on ultraportables are always compromised due to the limited amount of space available. Fujitsu has done a pretty good job in terms of the layout, however, as only the tab and backslash keys are smaller than usual. The traditional tapered keys don't have a great deal of travel though, so the keyboard feels a little soft and mushy to type on. It is spill resistant, which could be a lifesaver if you knock a cup of coffee over it while working on a plane or train. The touchpad is much better. It may be small, but the dimpled surface feels surprisingly pleasant under your finger tip. We certainly found it more satisfying to use than the sticky, glossy surface of some other trackpads we've come across recently. Between the two traditional buttons beneath the pad there's a fingerprint reader that also doubles up as a scroll wheel. To the immediate right of the pad, Fujitsu has also added a circular touch surface that can be used either as a scroll wheel or to zoom in and out of pictures. It works brilliantly and feels very intuitive to use. Like most laptops aimed more at work than play, this one has a matte screen that cuts down massively on screen reflections. The display has an odd resolution of 1,280x800 pixels, which is slightly narrower than the usual 1,366x768, but in practice we didn't find it made much difference. The screen is impressively bright and the viewing angles on the horizontal axis are top notch.

The line up of ports isn't bad by ultraportable standards, either. There are three USB ports for connecting up peripherals such external hard drives, and although there's sadly no HDMI connector, you do get a standard VGA output and a DisplayPort socket. The 34mm Express Card slot offers some room for expansion, and there's also both a smart card reader and SD memory card reader. Along with the usual Ethernet port and Wi-Fi module, Fujitsu has also added in support for Bluetooth 3.0.It's hard to find much to fault with the EA3's appearance. Our model's lid and wrist rest were finished in an attractive translucent white, with a Matrix-style dripping-dots pattern managing to look futuristic without coming across as tacky. This goes well with the matte silver used around the speaker grilles and the white keyboard inlay. The overall feel is of a fun and funky machine you'd be happy to whip out on the train.Like many of today's laptops, this model has an isolated keyboard. The keys are wide and flat, and, although many of them feel shallow, they have plenty of travel. This, combined with their springy action and solid feel, makes them fast and comfortable to type on.

The trackpad is also ace. A dimpled texture on the surface helps your finger glide effortlessly across it, and indicates its boundaries too. The two buttons are responsive and the trackpad supports multi-touch, so you can pinch your fingers to zoom in and out on pictures and Web pages. The EA3 has one of the best isolated keyboards we've come across. Above the keyboard are three buttons marked 'assist', 'Web' and 'Vaio'. Hitting the assist button launches the laptop into the Vaio Care Rescue mode, which offers tools for repairing or restoring Windows. The Web button boots up a quick-start Internet browser that takes around 24 seconds to load when the laptop is switched off. It's designed to let you quickly check something on the Internet or log into webmail when you're on the move. It's a full browser and includes Flash support, so you can even use it to watch videos on BBC iPlayer or YouTube.The Vaio button starts the Vaio Media Gallery from within Windows. This is a pretty pointless piece of software -- Windows' own gallery software is easier to use and has more features.The VPCEA3S1E's 14-inch screen has a resolution of 1,366x768 pixels, which is pretty much par for the course on a laptop of this size, but text still looks pretty crisp. The screen's viewing angles are fairly wide too, and, although it uses a glossy coating, it isn't as reflective as some other displays.

Last year, we were extremely bullish about the Alienware M11x. The 11.6-inch ultraportable laptop offered a unique blend of compact size and performance, particularly in terms of graphics, a reasonable price. At the time, it was without equal in its category.Now, 2011 has brought us an update to the M11x, named the Alienware M11x R3. You'd be hard-pressed to notice any external differences, because there are none: the impact is all inside. New second-generation Core i5 and i7 ULV processors, Nvidia GeForce GT 540 graphics, USB 3.0 ports, and optional WiMax are all worthwhile updates. Our $1,099 configuration also beats last year's $1,299 review unit on price, while improving CPU and GPU performance and battery life.If you were considering an M11x last year, then this year's version is a must-buy. Our only complaint is the lack of updates to the M11x's thick and weighty design--11-inch ultraportables are more plentiful now (see the HP dm1z and 11-inch MacBook Air), and are slimmer than ever. Still, in its size class, the Alienware M11x is still unparalleled. Those looking for a gaming-ready ultraportable laptop in the $1,000 range need look no further: this M11x gets the job done.

While the Alienware M11x is relatively thick for an ultraportable, especially considering that it lacks an optical drive, the compactness of the Alienware M11x as a gaming machine is hard to beat. Its look is a lot cleaner and more streamlined than larger Alienware products such as the M14x. The M11x's outer casing has a smooth, soft feel and matte finish. While minimalist, the Alienware design pedigree shows up in the black alien-head logo on the back lid, a trademark alien skull above the keyboard, and a race-car-like front face, complete with grille and LED "headlights."The M11x's all-around clean lines make it easy to slide into a bag, but its relative thickness is notable in a landscape of ever-thinner laptops. To some degree, the squared-off bottom-heavy look of the M11x resembles an old-school portable DVD player. The small footprint and thick chassis may need to be improved on soon; with thinner laptops like the MacBook Air and HP dm1z on the market, the 4.5-pound M11x is already starting to feel less portable than it did last year. The Alienware M11x gets a design pass this year, but it'll need to slim down if it wants to stand out again in 2012.

Opening up smoothly on a plastic hinge that protrudes from an otherwise flush back, the M11x interior is all black, with a very familiar Alienware LED-backlit multicolor keyboard and an edge-to-edge glossy 11.6-inch screen. The sturdy-feeling chassis and slightly compressed keyboard are much better than average, as is the comfortable, large touch pad. Much as on other Alienware laptops, the boldly colored keyboard, grille, and company logo lights can be customized in any of a rainbow of colors, or even set to strobe if you prefer. These effects are set using a set of Alienware applications. The M11x's 11.6-inch, 1,366x768-pixel-resolution screen looks good behind its edge-to-edge glossy veneer, but all that glass on a small screen results in quite a bit of glare, too. With its screen size, the M11x seems made to be plugged into an external monitor, but the 11.6-inch display is actually surprisingly decent for gaming. An immersive assist comes from above-average built-in 5.1 surround-sound Klipsch-powered speakers, an astounding array for the M11x's size. Game sound comes off crisp, loud, and good enough to enhance the gaming experience on its own. At maximum volume, the M11x can nearly rock a room. While the M11x's Klipsch partnership is new as of 2011, we already loved last year's M11x audio, so it's hard to note any improvements.

Wie das Unternehmen Widget mitteilt, wird der Händler das PalmOS-Smartphone Treo 650 ab Mitte März 2005 auch in Deutschland anbieten, nachdem es im Oktober 2004 zunächst für den US-Markt angekündigt wurde. In verschiedenen Ländern Europas wird palmOnes Treo 650 in Kürze auch über die großen Mobilfunknetzbetreiber angeboten, was jedoch nicht für den deutschen Markt gilt. Treo 650 Das PalmOS-Smartphone Treo 650 ergänzt die Treo-Linie und steckt in einem leicht modifizierten Gehäuse des Treo 600, wodurch palmOne die Gerätebedienung stärker an die verbreitete Handy-Steuerung angleichen will. So erhielt der Neuling separate Telefontasten, um darüber bequem Anrufe zu tätigen oder zu beenden sowie kontextabhängige Knöpfe, die wechselnde Funktionen aufrufen. In den Treo 650 sind neben einem transflektiven TFT-Display mit 320 x 320 Pixeln Auflösung auch Bluetooth integriert, eine WLAN-Funktion fehlt aber weiterhin.

Treo 650 Der Treo 650 weist eine modifizierte Mini-Tastatur auf, um darüber unterwegs längere Texte bequem eintippen zu können, wobei die Tastenbeleuchtung verbessert sein soll. Aber auch beim Schreiben von SMS oder E-Mails sowie dem Austausch von Chat-Nachrichten hilft die Tastatur. Das PalmOS-5-Gerät beherbergt einen nutzbaren Flash-Speicher von 22 MByte als Arbeitsspeicher, der über einen SD-Card-Steckplatz erweitert werden kann. Die nutzbare Speicherkapazität liegt in der Praxis aber leider deutlich unter 22 MByte, weil der Flash-Speicher im Unterschied zu RAM als kleinste Organisationseinheit Cluster mit einer Größe von 512 Byte verwendet. Nutzer des Treo 650 berichten, dass der nutzbare Speicher in der Praxis somit eher bei 16 MByte liegt.

Treo 650 Das Quad-Band-Gerät für die GSM-Netze 850, 900, 1.800 sowie 1.900 MHz unterstützt für eine schnelle Datenverbindung neben GPRS auch EDGE. Das 11,3 x 5,9 x 2,3 cm messende und 178 Gramm wiegende Gerät erhielt erstmals einen austauschbaren Akku, der nach Herstellerangaben eine Sprechzeit von 6 Stunden bietet und im Bereitschaftsmodus 12 Tage durchhalten soll.Treo 650 In Deutschland will unter anderem Widget den Treo 650 Mitte März 2005 mit QWERTZ-Tastatur zum Preis von 655,- Euro ohne Vertrag anbieten. Der Händler verkauft das PalmOS-Smartphone zudem mit Vertrag zu verschiedenen Konditionen. Nach wie vor sehen die Chancen derzeit schlecht aus, dass palmOne es schafft, sein Smartphone bei zumindest einem der vier großen Mobilfunknetzbetreiber unterzubringen. Bislang ist es noch nicht einmal gelungen, dass der Treo 600 über die vier großen Netzbetreiber angeboten wird, der bei palmOne derzeit ohne Vertrag 499,- Euro kostet und abermals im Preis gesenkt wurde.

In der Schweiz wird Orange nach dem Treo 600 auch den Treo 650 in subventionierter Form mit Vertrag anbieten, wie palmOne bekannt gab. Angaben zum Marktstart oder Preis wurden nicht gemacht. PalmOne präsentiert den Treo 650 zudem auf der CeBIT 2005 in Hannover an seinem Messestand.Passend zu AMDs Centrino-Alternative "Turion" hat Via jetzt den Chipsatz K8N800A vorgestellt. Die Bausteine bringen alle modernen Schnittstellen mit, auf PCI-Express muss man jedoch verzichten. Im Vorfeld der CeBIT hat Via seinen ersten Notebook-Chipsatz für AMDs Turion vorgestellt. Da sich AMD mit Details zu diesem Prozessor noch sehr bedeckt hält, darf man wohl zur Messe mit ersten Details rechnen - nun steht immerhin auch der erste Chipsatz für das auch als "Anti-Centrino" bezeichnete Konzept bereit.Bei Vias K8N800A handelt es sich um einen klassischen Notebook-Chipsatz mit integrierter Grafik. In die Northbridge wurde die von S3 bekannte Lösung "UniChrome" eingebaut, die sich zwischen 16 und 64 MByte Grafikspeicher vom System-RAM abzweigen kann. Zwei Pixelpipelines und 200 MHz Takt lassen nicht unbedingt berauschende Performance erwarten, ebenso nennt Via noch nicht, ob die Grafik zu DirectX 9 kompatibel sein wird. Externe High-End-Chips lassen sich aber über einen AGP-8x-Port ansteuern - doch hier wird die Auswahl langsam gering, die schnellsten Modelle von ATI und Nvidia sind ganz auf PCI-Express ausgerichtet.

Via K8N800a Interessant ist jedoch die integrierte MPEG-2-Beschleunigung des UniChrome. Hier darf man ordentliche Akku-Laufzeiten beim Betrachten von DVDs erwarten, da die CPU stark entlastet wird. Zusätzlich bringt der UniChrome auch einen Port für DVI-Displays mit, der bei Notebooks bisher noch rar ist.Über die Southbrige hat Via alle modernen Schnittstellen realisiert, inklusive zweier SATA-Ports. Der integrierte Sound entspricht nur dem betagten AC97, für modernen Mehrkanal-Ton lässt sich jedoch auch ein zusätzlicher Baustein (Via Envy24PT) anbinden. Das geschieht dann über Vias eigenen Audio-Port, nicht per PCI. Ebenso muss ein Notebook-Hersteller auch Unterstützung für Gigabit-Ethernet nachrüsten, die interne Netzwerk-Logik des K8N800A unterstützt maximal Fast-Ethernet. Drahtlose Netzwerke kennt der K8N800A ebenfalls nicht, hier dürfte wohl eine Mini-PCI-Karte notwendig werden.

Vias Unterlagen lassen darüber hinaus erste Daten zum Turion erkennen. Demnach wird der Prozessor wie seine Desktop-Kollegen DDR-Speicher ansteuern können. Er ist außerdem über einen effektiv 800 MHz schnellen HyperTransport-Bus an die Northbridge angebunden, was ebenfalls den aktuellen Ausgaben des Athlon 64 entspricht. Während das AX75 und das A75 mit einem Farbdisplay ausgestattet sind, steckt im A70 ein Monochrom-Display. AX75 Das Topmodell der drei neu vorgestellten Modelle aus der A-Klasse ist das AX75, das mit einem CSTN-Farbdisplay ausgestattet ist, das bei 128 x 128 Pixeln bis zu 65.536 Farben anzeigt. Das 106 x 47 x 18 mm messende Gerät besitzt einen Browser mit Unterstützung von WAP 1.2.1 und beherrscht zum Teil auch WAP 2.0. Neben EMS und SMS versteht das Handy auch MMS, bietet eine Freisprechfunktion, Java MIDP 1.0 sowie 1,5 MByte Speicher und verfügt über eine Infrarotschnittstelle.

Mit Hilfe eines integrierten Kalenders lassen sich zudem Termine verwalten, die mit dem PC synchronisiert werden können. Über eine aufsteckbare VGA-Kamera lassen sich auch Bilder mit dem Handy fotografieren. Der Akku im 76 Gramm wiegenden AX75 erlaubt nach Herstellerangaben eine Gesprächsdauer von fünf Stunden und soll im Bereitschaftsmodus neun Tage durchhalten.A75 Im Siemens A75 steckt ebenfalls ein CSTN-Display, das bis zu 4.096 Farben darstellt und das bei einer Auflösung von 101 x 80 Pixeln. Das 101 x 44 x 20 mm messende Mobiltelefon weist außerdem einen Browser nach WAP 1.2.1 auf und unterstützt SMS sowie EMS. Das 75 Gramm wiegende Mobiltelefon soll mit einer Akkuladung eine Sprechzeit von fünf Stunden sowie eine Stand-by-Zeit von zehn Tagen liefern.

Im 101 x 45 x 21 mm messenden A70 von Siemens steckt ein monochromes Display mit einer Auflösung von 101 x 64 Pixeln. Ansonsten bietet das Mobiltelefon SMS- und EMS-Unterstützung. Im 78 Gramm wiegenden A70 steckt ein Akku, der nach Siemens-Angaben für eine Gesprächszeit von fünf Stunden ausreicht und im Empfangsmodus nach rund zehn Tagen aufgeladen werden muss.A70 Bei allen drei Mobiltelefonen handelt es sich um Tri-Band-Geräte für die GSM-Netze 900, 1.800 und 1.900 MHz und zumindest das A75 und AX75 beherrschen außerdem GPRS der Klasse 8, während sich das A70 auf GSM-Funktionen beschränkt.Im Mai 2005 soll zunächst das Siemens A75 auf den Markt kommen, während die Modelle A70 und AX75 jeweils im Juni 2005 in den Regalen stehen sollen. Die Preise für die Geräte stehen bislang nicht fest, aber es wird erwartet, dass die Mobiltelefone für unter 200,- Euro ohne Vertrag und stark subventioniert in Prepaid-Paketen angeboten werden.

Schon seit Jahren forscht das US-Unternehmen Altair an neuen Lithium-Akkus, die auf Nanotechnologie basieren. Die Entwicklung geht jetzt in die zweite Runde, zwei Patente wurden bereits erteilt. Wenn die Technologie marktreif gemacht werden kann, sollen Akkus dreimal länger durchhalten als bisher. Altair, die mit dem legendären ersten PC Altair 8800 nicht in Verbindung stehen, ist ein Chemieunternehmen, das vor allem Grundstoffe für andere Firmen herstellt. Dabei suchen die Forscher schon seit Jahren nach Verfahren, mit denen die Partikel der Chemikalien stark verkleinert werden können.Eine der möglichen Anwendungen eines neuen Lithium-Titan-Oxids von Altair sind wiederaufladbare Batterien, wie sie heute in jedem Notebook oder Handy auf Basis von Lithium-Polymern stecken. Diese Akkus haben jedoch eine begrenzte Lebensdauer von wenigen 100 Ladezyklen. Manche Notebook-Hersteller geben deshalb auch nur eine Gewährleistung von einem Jahr auf den Akku.

Das Problem bei diesen Zellen ist, dass sich die Elektrolyte mit der Zeit an den Elektroden festsetzen und sich die Menge des umsetzbaren Energiespeichers reduziert - der Akku hat nur noch einen Bruchteil seiner Kapazität. Altair will nun sowohl für das Elektrolyt als auch das Material der Elektroden mittels Nanotechnologie neue Materialien entwickelt haben, welche diesen Effekt verhindern. Für die mit Kohlenstoff beschichteten Elektroden verspricht Altair ein nahezu "völlig unverzerrtes Kristallgitter", an dem das Elektrolyt nicht mehr haften soll. Wie genau das Unternehmen diese Werkstoffe herstellt, verrät es freilich nicht.Laut Altair befindet man sich bereits in Gesprächen mit Akkuherstellern, deren Namen aber vorerst nicht genannt wurden. Die Unternehmen seien aber allesamt begeistert, ließ Altair verlauten. Für die Fertigung der Materialien hat Altair im Januar 2005 bereits zwei US-Patente erhalten, eines für das Elektrolyt aus Lithium-Titan-Oxid und eines für die Elektrode mit Metall-Oxiden von wenigen Nanometern Beschichtungsdicke. Für die Finanzierung der Forschung erhält Altair neben anderen Investoren auch eine halbe Million Dollar von der "U.S. National Science Foundation".

Nanotechnologie in Stromspeichern ist derzeit eines der paxisnahesten Forschungsfelder. In spätestens 18 Monaten soll beispielsweise eine nicht wiederaufladbare Batterie mit Nanostrukturen lieferbar sein, die Lucent und mLabs entwickeln.Wann die Altair-Akkus auf den Markt kommen, ist noch nicht abzusehen. Auch bei anderen alternativen Energiespeichern wie der portablen Brennstoffzelle werden immer wieder Durchbrüche vermeldet, die Technologien sind aber auch nach Jahren noch nicht reif für den Massenmarkt. Der Nutzen der Nano-Akkus wäre indes enorm. Er soll laut Altair eine dreifache Energiedichte gegenüber bisherigen Lithium-Akkus aufweisen. Ein Akku gleicher Größe würde also dreimal so lange Strom liefern.Zudem sollen sich die Akkus innerhalb weniger Minuten aufladen lassen. Bei bisherigen Zellen ist das nur mit sehr hohen Stromstärken möglich, die jedoch den Akku schädigen, so dass sich seine Lebensdauer weiter verkürzt. Auch das ist jedoch lösbar, wie Varta mit seinen "Charge&Go"-Zellen schon auf Basis von Nickel-Metallhydrid beweist. Dabei werden jedoch Temperatur und Druck in der Zelle von dieser selbst mit Elektronik überwacht, was die Akkus und Ladegeräte stark verteuert - der chemische Prozess selbst ist jedoch unverändert. Die Altair-Technologie soll neben der hohen Energiedichte und geringer Ladezeit auch die Zahl der Ladezyklen von einigen Hundert auf einige Tausend Prozesse verlängern. [von Nico Ernst]

Apple hat die zweite Generation der iPod-mini-Produktfamilie vorgestellt. Beide Festplatten-Musikplayer erscheinen im neuen Design in vier neuen Farben. Die größte Neuerung betrifft jedoch die deutlich verlängerte Batterielaufzeit. Zudem gibt es eine Variante mit 6 GByte Speicherkapazität. Eine als Gerücht gehandelte Bluetooth-Version des iPods ist jedoch nicht aufgetaucht, dafür jedoch ein schlankes iPod-Photo-Gerät. Apple iPod mini Die Akkulaufzeit des iPod mini soll nun 18 Stunden betragen, bislang waren es nach Herstellerinformationen nur 8 Stunden. Das Gerät wird über FireWire400 oder USB 2.0 angeschlossen. Parallel zur Übertragung der Daten bzw. Musik wird der Akku des iPod mini direkt über den USB-2.0-Anschluss aufgeladen.Das 4- und das 6-GByte-Modell des iPod mini soll "in Kürze" für 199,- Euro bzw. 249,- Euro erhältlich sein, im deutschen Apple-Shop ist es schon zu sehen. Bislang kostete das 4-GByte-Modell offiziell 259,- Euro.Apple iPod mini Die neuen iPod minis sind in den Farben Silber, Pink, Blau und Grün erhältlich, im Lieferumfang enthalten sind Kopfhörer, ein Trageclip, ein USB-2.0-Kabel sowie eine CD mit iTunes 4.7.1. für Mac und Windows Computer.

ASUS M70V Battery

The batteries in laptop computers are expensive (a quick review of prices at Lenovo.com shows they range from $119 to $179), and like any battery, they have a limited lifespan. When it comes time to replace the battery inside your laptop computer, you may be tempted to save a few bucks and buy a replacement from a company other than the one that made the computer. In a widely reported story, someone in Ohio purchased a battery for their ThinkPad laptop from a company called Shentech rather than directly from Lenovo or IBM (in 2005, IBM sold the ThinkPad line of laptops to Lenovo). No doubt they paid less than IBM or Lenovo would have charged. When I checked today, a battery for a T40 ThinkPad that Lenovo sells for $119 is only $65 at Shentech. Was it a bargain? Not at all; the battery caught on fire.

The story made news not because of the fire but because the battery, bearing an IBM logo, was a fake (allegedly). After examining the faulty battery, IBM purchased additional batteries from Shentech, and they too were (allegedly) fakes. Needless to say, IBM is suing Shentech (that they list a Post Office box and no phone number on the Contact Us page of their Web site doesn't inspire confidence).Unfortunately, the laptop battery igniting in flames was not, in and of itself, newsworthy. After all, last year there were a slew of battery recalls. The big story was Dell recalling 4.2 million batteries made by Sony, but overall approximately 10 million Sony batteries used in machines from Apple, Sony, Lenovo/IBM, Panasonic, Toshiba, Hitachi, Fujitsu, Sharp, and Dell were recalled. In May of 2005 Apple recalled iBooks and PowerBooks with batteries made by LG Chem of South Korea. Lenovo/IBM has also recalled Sanyo batteries. It must be hard to make a safe lithium ion battery.The lesson here is to only buy replacement batteries from the company that made the computer. Off-brand batteries are more likely to scrimp on safety features.

And, should there be a recall of the battery in your laptop, make it easy for the manufacturer to contact you--register your computer purchase.If you are curious about the battery in a laptop computer running Windows XP, go to the control panel, open Power Options, click on the Power Meter tab and, finally, click on the battery icon. In the screen shot above, you can see the battery was made by Sanyo. ThinkPad owners should have a ThinkPad configuration program installed (available from Start -> Programs -> ThinkVantage, at least in Windows XP, I'm not sure about Vista) that shows additional information about the battery. As you can see above, this includes the manufacture date and the first-used date. The Status Detail tab (see above) also shows, among other data, the current temperature of the battery, which might bear watching every now and then.

If you know of other software that shows important information about the battery in a laptop computer, please leave a comment below.The laptops in Dell's business range may not be beautiful, but they are generally well put together and available in a wide range of configurations. The Dell Latitude E5410, which costs around £689, fits in nicely to the current Latitude line-up.In terms of design, the E5410 is not exactly what you'd call a looker. It has a very boxy, industrial-looking chassis with harsh angles. To give it its dues, though, it does feel like it could go ten rounds with David Haye and come off none the worse. It's not as boring-looking as Dell's E4310, either, with a two-tone colour scheme of gunmetal grey on the lid and wrist rest, and matte black on the rest of the chassis.Although the laptop isn't overly large for a 14-inch model at 338 by 22 by 244mm, it is quite heavy, weighing in at a hefty 2.36kg. As a result, it's not a great option if you need a machine to use on the move.

As with most business laptops, this model uses a display with a matte rather than glossy finish. This helps to cut down hugely on reflections and makes the screen more comfortable to use indoors under bright lights for longer periods. The 14.1-inch display has an older-style 4:3 aspect ratio and a pretty pedestrian resolution of 1,280x800 pixels. Nevertheless, the screen is quite bright and its viewing angles are good. Colours don't look quite as vibrant as they do on many consumer laptops, but this won't be an issue for most business users.The keyboard features traditional tapered keys and, although the layout is decent, Dell hasn't managed to squeeze in a numerical keypad. While the keys do have a suitable amount of travel and feel responsive under your fingertips, there is a little more flex towards the middle than we would have liked. The E5410's trackpad buttons feel very spongy and are uncomfortable to use. As with most of Dell's business laptops, this one has both a pointer and a trackpad. The trackpad is not overly roomy, but it is fast and accurate. That said, the two bottom-mounted trackpad buttons are very spongy and have too much travel, so you find your thumb pressing against the edge of the chassis when you're tapping on them -- which makes them slightly uncomfortable to use. As you would expect, there's a second set of buttons at the top of the trackpad that are designed to be used with the speedy and responsive pointer. These buttons are actually much better to use, as they are more rigid and responsive.

Samsung's P-series laptops are aimed primarily at business users, so they don't have the same flash styling as some of the company's consumer efforts. That said, the 15.6-inch Samsung P530 is no ugly duckling and, priced at around £500, it's very affordable.Rather than the glossy look that Samsung uses on its consumers laptops, such as the Q330, this model has a more scratch-resistant matte finish. Samsung has tried to jazz up the design with a textured pattern on the lid and keyboard surround. The chassis does feel a little plasticky to the touch, but it's far from flimsy and does give you the confidence that it will stand up to a fair bit of abuse.The keyboard is sort of a cross between an isolated design and a traditional one. It has the wide, flat keys you find on isolated keyboards, but these are packed together in the same way they are on a traditional model. The keyboard doesn't suffer from the flex you find on some cheaper models and the keys have a fair amount of travel, which makes them feel very responsive under your fingers. Samsung has also managed to find space to fit in both dropped cursor keys and a numerical keypad on the right-hand side.

The P530's keyboard combines the best of both worlds, with features of both a traditional and isolated design.Like many laptops aimed at business users, the P530's display features a matte rather than gloss coating. This helps to eliminate screen reflections, which in turn makes the screen easier to work with for prolonged periods of time -- ideal when you need to pull a late shift updating Excel spreadsheets or fine-tuning transitions on your PowerPoint presentation.As with most of today's screens, this one is LED-backlit, so it's very bright and colours look impressively punchy. Its resolution of 1,366x768 pixels is a little pedestrian for a 15-inch model, but the display's viewing angles aren't bad, so you don't have to worry about where you position the screen hinge.

The P530 has 801.11n Wi-Fi on board, but unfortunately, it doesn't have Bluetooth, which is a little puzzling for a business machine. It doesn't excel when it comes to the range of ports on offer, either. It does have both VGA and HDMI sockets for hooking it up to external displays and there are three USB ports, but it lacks an ExpressCard slot and an eSata port, so expansion possibilities are a little limited.The first MacBook Air will go down in history as one of the most divisive pieces of tech ever created. Either a triumph of design and simplicity or an overpriced, feature-bereft lump depending on your point of view, it split the tech world straight down the middle. Well, Apple's back with another iteration of the envelope-thin laptop -- available for around £1,100 -- but can this one finally convince us of the Air's worth?Let's start with the design, which hasn't changed all that much since the last time. We might as well get this out of the way early -- the MacBook Air is astonishingly thin. Even though we've held previous versions, we still passed the Air around, each member of the team turning it over in their hands as if trying to find where the rest of it was kept. It's hard to stress quite how slim the Air is with specs alone, but know that this 13-inch model is 325mm wide, 227mm high and 3mm thick at its thinnest point, 17mm at the thickest.

As you might have guessed, that makes the Air slightly wedge-shaped. It's an astonishingly slim wedge, but there's a definite taper down to the 3mm front lip. This laptop is thin enough to shave with, snowboard on and, if you possess the requisite arm strength, skim across a lake. In keeping with the Air style, this wedge-shaped model is unbelievably thin, but it actually has a surprising amount of heft to it. It's thin to the extreme, but the MacBook Air is actually surprisingly weighty. It's a million miles from heavy, weighing in at just 1.32kg, but we were struck by the substantial feel of this laptop. We're not complaining, though. For want of a better word, the Air feels expensive, and that balanced weight reflects the high build quality that's evident in its construction.The Air sports an aluminium unibody and, for the most part, we've no complaints about the design of this machine. It feels very well put together and, despite the thin chassis, doesn't feel like it would snap in a stiff breeze.

There's no backlit keyboard on offer, which is something we really like on the larger MacBook Pro. Secondly, the bezel is aluminium, and we'd hazard that the black glass surrounding the MacBook Pro's gorgeous display looks a little classier.Those are minor design quibbles, though -- overall, this is an exceptionally good-looking piece of kit.The MacBook Air does two things really, really well: style and usability. Indeed, using this laptop is a genuine pleasure at every stage. The keyboard is incredibly comfortable, with a generous space between each individual key to cut down on accidental mistypings. The traditional Mac 'up' and 'down' arrows persist, and they still seem a little odd to us. If you're used to using a standard PC keyboard, the lack of a delete key might prove a stumbling block.

SXG75Neben der 2-Megapixel-Digitalkamera enthält das Mobiltelefon eine zweite CIF-Kamera für Videotelefonate, die an der Vorderseite des Geräts untergebracht ist. Für die Digitalkamera bietet Siemens als Zubehör einen aufsteckbaren Blitz, der zudem eine Funktion enthält, um den Rote-Augen-Effekt zu minimieren. Das 2,2 Zoll große TFT-Display zeigt bei einer Auflösung von 240 x 320 Pixeln bis zu 262.000 Farben und soll sowohl Fotos als auch Videoclips angemessen zur Geltung bringen. Das UMTS-Gerät agiert auch in den drei GSM-Netzen 900, 1.800 sowie 1.900 MHz und unterstützt GPRS der Klasse 10.

Der interne Speicher beträgt 128 MByte, wovon allerdings nur 64 MByte zur freien Nutzung zur Verfügung stehen. Der Speicher kann über einen entsprechenden Steckplatz mit RS-MMC erweitert werden. So können auf der Speicherkarte neben Bildern und Videos auch MP3-Daten abgelegt werden, um unterwegs Musik zu hören. Alternativ übernimmt die Musikberieselung ein integriertes UKW-Radio.Zu den weiteren Leistungsdaten des 111,5 x 53 x 20 mm messenden Geräts zählen Bluetooth, eine Infrarotschnittstelle, ein E-Mail-Client, ein XHTML-Browser, MMS sowie ein Instant-Messaging-Client, Push-to-Talk und eine Java-Engine. Die Daten aus dem Termin- und Aufgabenplaner oder aus dem Adressbuch sowie Notizen können mit Microsoft Outlook synchronisiert werden, was auch per Bluetooth möglich ist. Ferner ist auf dem Handy eine Übersetzungshilfe für Deutsch, Englisch, Französisch, Italienisch, Portugiesisch und Spanisch vorinstalliert.Das 134 Gramm wiegende Mobiltelefon erreicht mit einer Akkuladung eine Sprechzeit von maximal 5 Stunden und soll im Bereitschaftsmodus etwa 16 Tage durchhalten. Bei dem Akku handelt es sich um einen Lithium-Ionen-Typ mit 1.000 mAh.

Siemens gibt an, dass das SGX75 im oberen Preissegment liegt und im September 2005 in den Handel kommen wird.Als Zubehör wird das batteriebetriebene "Mobile Music Set IMS-700" von Siemens mit Aktivlautsprechern angeboten, das aus dem Handy eine mobile Musikanlage machen und erstklassigen Klang liefern soll. Eingehende Anrufe unterbrechen die Musik automatisch und man kann weitere Musikquellen wie PC, CD-Player oder Ähnliches daran anschließen.Mit dem Kodak EasyShare Picture Viewer hat Kodak ein kleines Gerät zum Präsentieren von Digitalbildern vorgestellt. Das Gerät verfügt über einen SD/MMC-Karten-Slot und bietet intern 32 MByte Speicher. Das Gerät bietet einen 2,5 Zoll in der Diagonale messenden LC-Bildschirm mit 201.000 Pixeln Auflösung, auf dem man die Bilder in zwei Vergrößerungsstufen oder als Vollbild ansehen kann. Die Bildanzeige in Originalauflösung soll in weniger als 3 Sekunden vonstatten gehen, wobei Kodak keine Angaben machte, auf welche Originalbildgrößen sich dieser Wert bezieht.Das Menü und der Vier-Wege-Schalter erlauben entweder die Einzelansicht von Bildern oder das Abspielen einer Dia-Show. Mit einem Tastendruck auf den roten Kodak-Share-Button kann man entscheiden, welche Bilder vom Computer per E-Mail versendet oder ausgedruckt werden sollen: Das Ausdrucken der gespeicherten Bilder kann beispielsweise über das Kodak-ImageLink-Drucksystem erfolgen.

Zum anderen ist es möglich, den Kodak EasyShare Picture Viewer durch die Pictbridge-Technologie per USB auch direkt an andere Drucker anzuschließen. Der Kodak EasyShare Picture Viewer verfügt über einen wiederaufladbaren Lithium-Ionen-Akku, der im aufgeladenen Status bis zu drei Stunden Betriebsdauer bieten soll.Der Kodak EasyShare Picture Viewer misst 8,7 x 5,8 x 1,2 cm und wiegt 68 Gramm. Er soll in Deutschland ab Mai 2005 zum Preis von 149,- Euro erhältlich sein.Mit der frisch angekündigten Cyber-Shot DSC-T7 hat Sony eine Digitalkamera im Programm, die trotz einer Auflösung von 5 Megapixeln, eines 3fach optischen Zooms und eines 2,5-Zoll-Displays gerade einmal 15 mm dick ist. Das Objektiv der Sony Cyber-Shot DSC-T7 arbeitet im Brennweitenbereich von 38 bis 114 mm (auf 35 mm bezogen) und mit Anfangslichtstärken von F3,5 bis F4,4. Die Nahgrenze liegt bei 1 cm. Die Auflösung des 2,5-Zoll-Displays auf der Rückseite liegt bei 230.000 Pixeln. Darüber hinaus gibt es noch einen optischen Sucher. Sony Cyber-Shot DSC-T7 Eine Sekunde nach dem Einschalten soll die Kamera das Objektiv einsatzbereit herausgefahren haben und aufnahmebereit sein. Vor dem Objektiv-Tubus sitzt ein Schiebeschalter, der sowohl als Einschalter als auch als Objektivschutz dient.

Die Kamera bietet einen 5-Punkt-Autofokus und Verschlussgeschwindigkeiten von 1 bis 1/1000 Sekunde. Das Gerät bietet zahlreiche Programmfunktionen für verschiedenste Belichtungssituationen, ein manueller Modus ist jedoch nicht vorhanden. Beim Weißabgleich muss man sich auf die Automatik bzw. die voreingestellten Farbtemperaturen verlassen - lediglich bei der Lichtempfindlichkeit hat man die Wahl zwischen ISO 100, 200 oder 400. Auch hier gibt es natürlich einen Automatikmodus, der dem Fotografen die Arbeit abnehmen kann. Ein kleiner Automatikblitz hellt die nähere Umgebung bei Bedarf auf.Sony Cyber-Shot DSC-T7 Die Serienbildgeschwindigkeit wurde leider nicht mit angegeben. Kleine Filme samt Ton können im Format 640 x 480 Pixel bei 30 Bildern pro Sekunde (nur mit ProDuo) aufgezeichnet werden. Die Kamera speichert auf Memory Stick Duo oder Memory Stick PRO Duo und bietet neben einer USB- auch eine AV-Schnittstelle.Der Lithium-Ionen-Akku soll für ungefähr 180 Bilder gut sein, bevor er wieder geladen werden muss. Die Kamera wiegt ohne Akku und Speicherkarte 115 Gramm und misst 92 x 60 x 15 mm.

Die Cyber-shot DSC-T7 wird mit einem 32 MByte großen Memory Stick Duo ausgeliefert und soll ab Mai 2005 für ungefähr 500,- Euro auf den Markt kommen.Sony stellt neun neue Flash-Player vor, die neben dem eigenen Format ATRAC3plus auch MP3s abspielen und bis zu 70 Stunden Laufzeit sowie eine Schnellladefunktion bieten sollen. Sony nennt die Player Network-Walkman und positioniert sie gegen Apples iPod Shuffle. NW-E100 Die Einsteigerserie NW-E100 spielt im Energiesparmodus mit einem AAA-Akku maximal 70 Stunden Musik ab und ist mit einem LC-Display ausgestattet. Der NW-E103, NW-E105 und NW-E107 haben eine Speicherkapazität von 256 MByte, 512 MByte und 1 GByte.NW-E400 Die Serie NW-E400 gibt es mit den gleichen Kapazitäten, statt einem LC-Display bieten sie jedoch eine dreizeilige OLED-Anzeige, die auch bei Tageslicht leicht ablesbar sein soll. DVB-H-Prototyp von Siemens Die per DVB-H-Übertragungsstandard (Digital Video Broadcast Handheld) gefunkten MPEG-4-Daten werden in Zeitschlitzen in kleinen Paketen an das Gerät gesendet; die kurzen Übertragungspausen entlasten den Akku laut Siemens entscheidend. Der Prototyp soll bis zu drei Stunden Fernsehbilder empfangen können, bis der Akku leer ist. Die unter anderem von Sigma in seiner Digital-Spiegelreflexkamera SD-10 verbaute Chip-Familie verspricht Digitalbilder mit hoher Schärfe und großer Farbtiefe. Das eingesetzte 3fach optische Zoom von Ricoh besteht aus sieben Gruppen und sieben Elementen. Der Brennweitenbereich liegt bezogen auf 35-mm-Kameras zwischen 35,6 und 106,8 mm bei F2,6 bis F3,4. Darüber hinaus setzt ein 4fach- Digitalzoom ein.

Polaroid x530Der Foveon-X3-5M-CMOS-Sensor ist wie ein herkömmlicher Farbfilm mit drei übereinander liegenden Farbschichten aufgebaut. Im Vergleich zu den handelsüblichen CCD- oder CMOS-Chips, die sonst bei Digitalkameras eingesetzt werden, soll so eine höhere Farbtreue und Detailschärfe erreicht werden. Vor allem aber bei schwierigen Aufnahmeverhältnissen, beispielsweise große Helligkeits- und Kontrastunterschiede, soll sich die Kamera mit dem X3-Sensor hervortun.Im unkomprimierten RAW-Dateiformat liegt die Auflösung nach Herstellerangaben bei 1.420 x 1.060 x 3 Bildpunkten und die JPEGs werden maximal 2.432 x 1.842 Pixel groß. Die Kamera ist mit einem 2-Zoll-LCD-Farbdisplay versehen und enthält ein kleines Blitzlicht mit einer Reichweite von 0,7 m bis 3 Metern.Polaroid x530Die Kamera bietet eine zentrierte, Matrix- oder Spot-Messung zur Belichtungsbestimmung. Der ISO-Bereich liegt zwischen 100, 200 und 400 und kann entweder manuell oder automatisch festgelegt werden. Auch eine einfache Bildbearbeitung zur Verminderung des Rote-Augen-Effekts und zur Ausschnittsbestimmung ist eingebaut.

Die Kamera kann außer Standbildern auch Videofilme im Format 640 x 480 mit Ton bei 30 Bildern/Sekunde aufnehmen. Das Gerät ist mit einem USB-1.1- und einem TV-Ausgang ausgerüstet und speichert sein Bildmaterial auf SD-Speicherkarten - ein 32-MByte-Modell liegt bei. Die Stromversorgung übernimmt ein Lithium-Ionen-Akku. Der Kamera liegt unter anderem zur Auswertung der RAW-Dateien die X3-Fill-Light-Software bei.Die Polaroid x530 misst 105 x 71 x 61 mm, wiegt 300 Gramm und soll ab 31. März 2005 für 349,- Euro über den Ladentisch gehen. Auf der CeBIT 2005 sollen die ersten Serienmodelle der Polaroid x530 am plawa Stand D40/K204 im Planet-Reseller-Bereich der Halle 25 zu sehen sein.

Samsung hat zwei neue Klapp-Handys im Einsteigersegment vorgestellt, wobei eines der beiden Tri-Band-Geräte mit einer VGA-Digitalkamera bestückt ist. Beide Klapp-Handys besitzen nur ein Display, so dass man das Gerät zum Abrufen von Statusinformationen öffnen muss. Samsung spendiert seinen Klapp-Handys sonst meist ein zweites Außendisplay, um diesen Nachteil von Klappgehäusen zu umgehen. SGH-X640 In Samsungs SGH-X640 steckt eine Digitalkamera mit VGA-Auflösung, die über ein 4faches Digitalzoom und eine Kontrasteinstellung sowie eine Serienbildfunktion verfügt. Acer GARDA31 Battery

Overall, you'll end up waiting too long for these tablet-style programs to launch or respond, and likely won't use them too often, which is a shame, as the design and layout are very nice.The 10.1-inch display has a native resolution of 1,366x768 pixels, which is what we'd expect to see on a more upscale 10-inch Netbook. Video and images looked decent, but off-axis viewing was an issue. Passable from the sides, it wasn't much worse than many other low-cost laptops, but the image faded quickly when viewed from even slightly above or below (which could be an issue with a screen that swivels up and down).The built-in speakers were surprisingly loud--good enough, at least, for movie playback to a small audience. But even better-sounding was the optional JBL speaker dock accessory. It adds $100 to the cost of the system, but it also holds the Duo at a good angle for video viewing, or use as a digital photo frame or for touch-screen music playback. Plug the Inspiron Duo into the dock and it asks you if you want to display a digital photo frame mode or switch to a desk clock view, with an animated aquarium background.The Duo is surprisingly thin on ports and connections, choosing to offload many of the standard features one would expect to the optional $100 docking station (which makes it much less optional). This includes an SD card slot and Ethernet jack, which are both found on the dock but not on the system itself, and any kind of video output, which is missing from both the Duo and the dock.

There's one other odd accessory note. The built-in Webcam is part of the screen bezel, so when the display is flipped into tablet mode, the camera disappears and is unusable.With a 1.5GHz Intel Atom N550 processor, we'd expect performance about on par with other 10-inch Netbooks. The dual-core version of Intel's Atom, though long-awaited, hasn't completely lived up to our expectations, and in the systems we've reviewed that feature it, performance isn't noticeably better in many circumstances than the single-core Atoms, which have been seeming a bit long in the tooth lately.We could normally get away with it for basic computing tasks, but when you consider that the Duo has to power a higher-resolution touch screen with only the Atom N550 and basic Intel integrated graphics (although there's a Broadcom video chip to help with video playback), the sluggish performance makes sense. That said, when set up as a traditional laptop, the Inspiron Duo performs about as well as other Netbooks. It's only the touch-interface tools that seem especially slow.

With its trim dimensions, colorful lid, rounded display hinges, and isolated keyboard, the $799 Sony Vaio VPC-Y218FX certainly looks the part of a stylish laptop for home or campus use. It also features oodles of wireless connectivity, with 802.11n Wi-Fi, mobile broadband, and Bluetooth onboard. It's not particularly well built, however, and it's woefully underpowered. The culprit is an ultralow-voltage (ULV) CPU, the 1.2GHz Intel Pentium U5400, which can't keep pace with similarly priced Core i3-based models. Even worse, it doesn't offer much of an advantage in battery life. There are better thin-and-light options, such as the Acer Aspire TimelineX 4820TG-7805, the Asus U35Jc-A1, and the Toshiba Portege R705-P25.The Vaio VPC-Y218FX follows Sony's basic laptop recipe: a colorful lid (in this case, a vivid purple), rounded display hinges (the power button resides on the left end, and the connection for the power cord sits on the right), and a Chiclet-style keyboard. Those ingredients result in a snazzy look, but unfortunately the Vaio VPC-Y218FX doesn't offer the same solid build quality that we've found on other Vaio models, such as the 15.5-inch Vaio VPC-EA24FM/W or the 16.4-inch Vaio VPCF12AFM/H. For one, the battery in our review model ended up sitting loosely in its housing. Similarly, two narrow hinges holding the display in place didn't prevent a bit of screen wobble when the laptop was gently nudged.

The roomy keyboard, with widely spaced isolated keys, didn't feel as solid as other Vaio keyboards and sounded clacky. Above the keyboard, two small buttons handled additional quick-launch functions. One, labeled Vaio, opens up Sony's Media Gallery app, through which you can control your music, photos, and videos. The other, labeled Assist, calls up Vaio Care, where you'll find troubleshooting, diagnostic, and recovery tools.A responsive touch pad doesn't support multitouch gestures, which are becoming increasingly common on today's laptops. Instead of two-finger scrolling, you'll need to use the vertical scroll region along the touch pad's right edge. A horizontal scroll region runs along the bottom edge. The mouse buttons are narrow, positioned along the curved bottom edge of the laptop. They're comfortably angled, and quiet when pressed.The display measures 13.3 inches on the diagonal and features a 1,366x768-pixel resolution. It's not the brightest display, but colors look vivid and videos played smoothly. The audio from the speaker bar that runs along the top of the keyboard is predictably tinny; it's difficult for small laptops to produce big sound.

For a compact laptop, the Vaio VPC-Y218FX features a decent amount of connectivity, particularly of the wireless variety. You'll find only three USB 2.0 ports and no eSATA, but there is an HDMI port along with the standard VGA video port. There's also a 34mm ExpressCard slot and two media card slots (SD and MemoryStick). In addition to 802.11n Wi-Fi, the laptop offers mobile broadband (subscription to Verizon or Sprint is needed). Continuing the march of wireless connectivity is a Bluetooth antenna. A small Wi-Fi on/off switch resides on the front edge of the laptop.In addition to the flimsy build quality, the other chief drawback of the Sony Vaio VPC-Y218FX is its slow performance. It features the Intel Pentium U5400, a dual-core ULV CPU with a clock speed of only 1.2GHz. Many advanced features of Intel's Core i3/i5 chips, such as Turbo Boost and Hyper-Threading, aren't available here. For all of these reasons, not surprisingly, the Vaio VPC-Y218FX trailed similarly priced Core i3-based laptops in labs testing. The $849 Asus U35Jc-A1, for example, uses a Core i3 processor and completed all three of CNET Labs' application benchmarks in less than half the time it took the Vaio VPC-Y218FX. In anecdotal testing, we encountered frequent lags, particularly when multitasking. There are Vaio Y-series models with faster ultralow-voltage CPUs: an upgrade to a 1.2GHz Core i3-330UM CPU only costs $20, whereas a 1.73GHz Intel Core i5-430UM CPU costs an extra $100.

The biggest benefit of an energy-efficient ULV chip is extended battery life, but the Vaio VPC-Y218FX failed to put any distance between it and more-powerful Core i3-based laptops, lasting 4 hours 9 minutes on our demanding video playback battery drain test. That's not bad for battery life, but it's underwhelming with a processor this low-impact.Sony offers a standard one-year parts and labor warranty with the system. Help options include a 24-7 toll-free phone line, live Web chat, driver downloads, and FAQ pages.As a result, our recommendations vary based on what cost and specs you'd select from the configuration options available on Dell's Web site. Certain aspects of the V130 are consistent across the board: the rock-solid aluminum-and-magnesium frame, the 13-inch matte screen, and the system's lack of an optical drive. Also, the V130 only has integrated Intel graphics.The configuration we reviewed, a top-of-the-line $918 model, had an Intel Core i5 U470 CULV processor, 4GB of RAM, and a 500GB hard drive. In this configuration, it underperformed compared to the slightly larger but more affordable Toshiba Portege R705, especially in terms of battery life.

That's the pickle with the Vostro V130: especially when factoring in its poor battery life, there's really nothing that distinguishes it when compared with superior small laptops such as the Portege R705 and the new Apple MacBook Airs. In the middle configurations, especially around $600, the V130 could have been a sweeter choice, especially if its battery performed better.Much like the Dell Vostro 3300 we reviewed earlier this year, the Vostro V130 is a sleek, angular laptop that feels almost ThinkPad-like in its interior, but also has some exterior style that casts it as the offspring of a MacBook Air and an Adamo. An anodized aluminum frame comes in both attractive steel and metallic red shades (Lucerne red costs an extra $40). An integrated battery underneath keeps the thickness on the V130 universally slim. The slight hinge-forward design of the top lid leaves a little back lip jutting out behind the opened-up lid, which is where all the ports and the V130's heat vents are found. The rear ports are great for desk use but can get confusing on one's lap, while the rear heat vents do a nice job shunting excess warmth away from legs and other delicate parts.

A wide magnesium-alloy palm rest frames a square multitouch touch pad with discrete buttons beneath. The pad's smaller than what you'd find on Apple's MacBook Air, but it's responsive and has all the requisite multitouch gestures enabled.The keyboard is well-built and feels great, too--it's a semiraised keyboard that's similar to those on other Dell Inspirons. There are a few annoyances: volume and brightness aren't function-reversed and have no dedicated buttons, and a column of page up/page down keys on the right side cramp easy access to the Enter/Shift keys, a trend we've seen growing on many laptops. If you're looking for any dedicated keys other than what the standard keyboard provides, you're out of luck. A tiny power button on the top left is all there is. The 13.3-inch screen has a native pixel resolution of 1,366x768 and has a matte coating, which helps protect against glare. Text and videos both looked very crisp, and though the screen's maximum brightness still wasn't all that bright, the lack of environmental glare helped make the most of it. A mono speaker situated below the keyboard did a better than expected job with video playback, and it reached an acceptable volume. Sound quality wasn't overly tinny, despite its lack of depth.

An included 2.0 megapixel Webcam can record video or snap pictures at resolutions up to 1,600x1,200, but video recorded in AVI format at that size was extremely choppy. We achieved the smoothest results at 640x480.Due perhaps to its size, the Vostro V130 doesn't have a great selection of ports. Most of them are tucked along the back end of the V130, except for an SD card on the right side of the laptop and headphone/mic jacks and a SIM card slot on the front end. In addition to mobile broadband readiness, the V130 also has Bluetooth standard.Dell offers a huge selection of configurations of the V130 on its small business Web site, starting at the seemingly bargain-basement price of $429 and climbing well above $1,000. That's a vast range for a 13-inch laptop, but a peek under the hood of various configurations reveals that the low-end $429 V130 has a paltry 1GHz Celeron processor, 2GB of RAM and a 250GB hard drive. A more reasonable configuration--and one we'd recommend--would be a $628 model with a Core i3 ULV CPU, 2GB of RAM and a 320GB hard drive. Our version has a high price largely because of its CPU, its doubled RAM, and the upgraded Windows 7 Professional OS. One nice plus: the 500GB hard drive is a fast 7,200rpm. A 128GB SSD drive is also available for an extra $228, but if you're really hungry for SSD in a thin laptop, you might as well go with a 13-inch MacBook Air instead.

The Core i5 ULV processor in our configuration of the Vostro V130 is an ultralow-voltage processor, operating at only 1.3 GHz. It's a less powerful processor than a standard-voltage Core i5 found in most mainstream laptops, and it also underperforms compared to any standard voltage Core i3. It's better, though, than the Core 2 ULV CPUs found in many last-generation thin-and-lights. Apple's MacBook Airs still feature Core 2 Duo ULV processors, but in our benchmarking tests the 11.6-inch MacBook Air came out ahead in a few categories. Functionally, you can expect a nearly mainstream experience from a Core i5 ULV, plenty to do most tasks, although when it came to multitasking the V130 engaged its fans and got quite warm.Video streaming looked great on the Core i5 ULV Vostro V130; both full-screen Hulu and Netflix were smooth and very watchable. The V130 only has Intel integrated graphics, but that's more than adequate for any video playback needs. The V130 won't handle games well, but that's not something a V130 customer would really be looking for.

Don’t be scared of the cloud for data storage or application-serving usage, since a reputable CSP will be more proactive than you at maintaining software patches and implementing security – in order to survive, CSPs have to take security seriously. What’s more, they can do so at less cost to your bottom line than you can.The anytime/anywhere nature of cloud access even provides a good disaster-recovery route for smaller businesses. Of course, the cloud isn’t 100% secure, and you need to think about where your data is located and who has access to it. Here, though, encryption is your friend (see tip 4), as are single sign-on tools for cloud usage, which enterprise password managers (see tip 2) can often provide.

Good data security isn’t all about bits and bytes – it’s also about the bits and bobs, from the front-desk PC to the phone in your pocket. You need to secure your hardware and secure access to your premises. Every SMB’s security policy should embrace the physical, or it could be counting the cost when someone walks in and steals a laptop – and by so doing potentially steals access to the network and data, too.Simple things can reduce the risk of data loss – such as keeping doors and windows locked whenever the office is closed, fitting alarms, using Kensington locks on desktops and laptops, and requiring users to have lockscreens activated whenever they’re away from their desks, plus being careful about who you let into your premises.Shred documents to prevent paper trails that could be useful to cybercriminals, and keep your paper files in locked cabinets. Finally, seeking advice from a local crime-prevention officer is never a bad idea, either.

The most important piece of security advice for any business is to take responsibility for your data, and to do it now.Even when you have a security policy written up and implemented, the staff educated, the data encrypted and the devices under control, you can’t afford to rest on your laurels and assume you’re now secure. IT security is a dynamic, ever-changing landscape, and securing your data is your responsibility.The bad guys won’t be sitting back – they’ll be keeping on top of the latest vulnerabilities and weaknesses, so it’s up to you to keep up with them.Look at the name and the photos and you'll see nothing remarkable, but the Gigabyte P34G v2 is a gaming laptop that flies in the face of convention. On paper, the combination of an Intel Haswell CPU with Nvidia's latest 8 Series GPU isn't strictly new; the giant-sized MSI GE70 2PE Apache Pro has already beaten Gigabyte to the punch in delivering that combination. But the P34G v2, which will hit the shops later this month, performs the impressive feat of squeezing those high-power components into a slim, portable 14in chassis. The Gigabyte doesn't wear its heart on its sleeve. The exterior is finished in an understated palette of matte-grey plastics, and it's only once you tilt back the slim, sturdy-feeling lid that proceedings are enlivened by a keyboard surrounded with a plate of silver metal. Compared to the slick, stylish exteriors of cutting-edge Ultrabooks, the Gigabyte is less than enticing. That's not to say build quality is bad, though – it's anything but. The 1.7kg chassis feels well put together, and although it measures a relatively dainty 23mm across its thickest point, there's barely any flex or give anywhere.The two sizable fan exhausts on each rear corner give a clue as to this laptop's capabilities. The quad-core 2.4GHz Core i7-4700HQ is normally more at home in 15in or 17in designs, and Gigabyte has partnered the powerhouse CPU with Nvidia's recently launched GeForce GTX 860M GPU, which is why it requires such a beefy cooling system.

There's even a modest amount of upgradability. Our review unit came with a single 8GB DDR3L SODIMM installed, leaving one RAM slot free, and a 128GB Lite-On mSATA SSD drive. Other models of the P34G v2 also have room for a secondary 2.5in HDD, but in this model there isn't enough room due to the larger battery.Alongside the fastest laptops and mobile workstations on the market, the Gigabyte P34G v2 can hold its head up high. In our Real World Benchmarks the P34G v2 scored 0.99, a whisker ahead of far larger laptops such as the 3kg MSI GE70 2PE Apache Pro and the Dell Precision M3800.It’s certainly a distinctive-looking hybrid, and it feels like a high-quality piece of kit. Available in eye-popping red or a more subdued silver, the Pavilion X360’s soft-touch plastics have a pleasantly rubbery feel, and the sturdy base and lid are connected by a strong-feeling hinge. HP’s done a grand job of squeezing in a fine keyboard and usable touchpad, too.

Push the display backwards and – as with Lenovo’s IdeaPad Yoga 2 – it’s possible to use the HP in a variety of positions. The display can swivel all the way back into tablet mode, or fold around to turn the base into a makeshift stand. It works well, but it feels unwieldy in tablet mode – it’s 22mm thick, and, at 1.48kg, it’s immensely heavy by tablet standards.An Intel Celeron N2820 CPU joins forces with 4GB of RAM and a 500GB HDD. This low-power, dual-core processor provides a usable level of performance – in our Real World Benchmarks, the HP scored 0.36 – but in combination with a mechanical hard disk it suffers the occasional bout of hiccuping and grinding. Battery life is poor, too: the Pavilion X360 lasted only 4hrs 25mins in our light-use test.

It’s the X360’s touchscreen that really lets the side down. To keep the budget in check, HP has used a low-quality TN panel, and it shows. The maximum brightness of 202cd/m2 is mediocre, and the contrast ratio of 217:1 is disappointing even by budget standards. For a display designed to be viewed from every angle, the washed-out colours, low brightness and narrow viewing angles are a terrible combination.Even though the price is appealing, the HP Pavilion X360 suffers from too many compromises. The Asus VivoBook X200CA offers similar performance and battery life for £50 less, while the Lenovo IdeaPad Yoga 2 11in shows exactly how a hybrid should be made for £500. It is a promising effort, though, and a better quality screen would transform the HP’s appeal.If you’re in the market for a compact tablet, the sheer variety on offer can seem daunting. Not only is there a vast number of devices to choose from, but every manufacturer also offers something slightly different, with features, screen technologies, operating systems and prices all varying dramatically between rival tablets. The key difference – and one from which all other differences stem – is the price, which runs the full gamut from laptop-rivalling bank-balance smashers, to bargain-basement impulse buys. Und jetzt kommt auch gleich die Einschränkung: Nur telefonieren kann man (noch) nicht. Vielleicht gibt es schon bald eine entsprechende App, oder man benutzt Skype und ähnliches mit einem Headphone, sofern man WiFi-Zugang hat. Hingegen hat die Galaxy einen GPS- und Gyrosensor, der ihr jederzeit sagt wo sie ist und in welche Richtung sie schaut. Und da es entsprechende Apps gibt, ist die Galaxy somit auch ein nützliches Navigationsgerät.

Und wenn beim ersten Eindruck das etwas gross geratene Gehäuse moniert wurde, so erweist sich jetzt der 12 cm grosse Bildschirm plötzlich als komfortabel und den üblichen Mäusekinos weit überlegen. Als Randbemerkung sei erwähnt, dass sich das Display selbstverständlich von Quer- auf Hochformat dreht, sich automatisch der Umgebungshelligkeit anpasst und auch sehr gut seitlich einsehbar ist. Ein Schwenkdisplay ist also kein Thema, zumal dieses die Kamera nochmals deutlich vergrössert hätte.
Nachdem Android und die Internetfähigkeit der Samsung Galaxy in den Vordergrund gerückt wurden, stellt sich natürlich die Frage nach den Spezifikationen und der Qualität des Kamerateils. Die technischen Details, wie 1/2,3" CMOS-Sensor mit 16,3 Millionen Bildpunkten und einem 21fachen Zoom mit Anfangslichtstärke 1:2,8 reissen heutzutage kaum jemanden vom Hocker, denn schliesslich gibt es Handys, die diesen Features nahestehen oder diese sogar übertrumpfen. Das Kompaktkamerasegment, vor allem in der unteren Preisklasse, dürfte es im Handywettbewerb künftig schwer haben, zeigen doch die Absatzzahlen tendenziell bereits jetzt in den Minusbereich.

Dennoch, der Kamerateil des Samsung Galaxy hat uns überrascht, sowohl was die optische Qualität über den gesamten Zoombereich von 23 bis 483 mm (Kleinbild-entsprechend) anbelangt, als auch Schärfe und Rauschverhalten des Sensors. Die Scharfeinstellung erfolgt über den gesamten Zoombereich sehr schnell. Als Besonderheit, die ich in der Praxis zu schätzen wusste, ist die Touch Fokus-Funktion (die übrigens im Video-Modus nicht aktiviert werden kann), mit welchem irgendein Punkt auf dem Sucherbild angetippt werden kann, auf welches das Objektiv danach scharfstellt.

Selbstverständlich verfügt die Galaxy auch über eine integrierte Bildstabilisierung, die man aktivieren oder deaktivieren kann. Empfehlung: Grundsätzlich immer eingeschaltet lassen und gelegentlich kontrollieren, denn mit einem 21fach-Zoom und 483 mm kleinbildentsprechender Brennweite und bei einer relativ geringen Masse, kommt man schnell in eine kritische Situation.A propos ausschalten: Die Kamera kann auf dreiverschiedene Arten betrieben werden: Mit der Auto-Einstellung nutzt sie den «Best shot»-Modus, macht selbsttätig acht verschiedene Aufnahmen und schlägt die beste vor. Diese kann man annehmen oder verwerfen. Im Intelligent-Modus bietet die Galaxy 15 verschiedene Motiv- und Effektprogramme an, nämlich: Gesichtstönung, Bildempfehlung, Serienaufnahme, Bestes Gesicht, Landschaft, Makro, Momentaufnahme (Sport), Farbfülle (HDR), Panorama, Wasserfall, Silhouette, Sonnenuntergang, Nachtmodus, Feuerwerk und Leuchtspuren. Einige davon sind recht nützlich, wie z.B. der «Farbfülle»-Modus – bekannt als HDR-Effekt, die Gesichtstönung, welche Hautunreinheiten beseitigt, oder die Panorama-Funktion, mit der acht Bilder in der Kamera automatisch und makellos zusammengestitched werden.

Das Rauschverhalten (bei 100%): ab ISO 800 leidet die Auflösung geringfügig. Bei ISO 3200 nimmt man das Rauschen auch im Bild störend wahr Im Expert-Modus kann der Benutzer zwischen den klassischen Funktionen wählen, wie manuelle Einstellung, Blenden- oder Zeitpriorität sowie manuelle Einstellung. Informativ: Die Kamera zeigt im Expert-Modus ein stilisiertes Objektiv an, an dessen Drehring (je nach gewähltem Modus) die Verschlusszeit, die Blende, die plus-/Minus-Korrektur und die ISO-Einstellung verändert werden kann. Übrigens informiert die Kamera – bei entsprechender Einstellung – immer über die Eigenschaften der eingestellten Funktion und warnt gegebenenfalls vor ungewollten Anwendungen.Abgesehen vom Serienbild-Modus bei den Motivprogrammen, gibt es noch eine schnellere Serienbild-Funktion mit bis zu 20 Vollbildern pro Sekunde, die man im deutschen Menü unter dem unverständlichen Punkt «Fahren» findet (jemand offensichtlich hat das englische «Drive» wörtlich übersetzt, ohne dabei zu wissen, worum es bei der Funktion geht). Die obige Bilderreihe des startenden Airbus A 380 der Singapore-Airlines ist so aufgenommen. Es gibt ebenfalls unter dem Menüpunkt «Fahren» einen Belichtungreihenmodus, der sich hinter dem Geheimkürzel AE BKT verbirgt. Tja, die deutschen Übersetzungen sollte man vielleicht vor dem nächsten Firmware-Update nochmals kritisch durchsehen …

Beim Testen wunderten wir uns über einen überraschend vollständig entladenen Akku. Während des Anschauens eines Flash-Videos waren abends plötzlich andere Dinge wichtig und so wurde das Gerät in den Standby-Modus versetzt und vergessen. Mit anderen Worten: Display aus und minimaler Stromverbrauch bei nahezu sofortiger Bereitschaft. Doch in diesem Fall war das Video zwar pausiert, der Flash-Player aber anscheinend noch ziemlich damit beschäftigt, den Status des Nichtstuns aufrechtzuerhalten. Am Morgen danach war der zuvor mit 75 Prozent gelistete Akku plötzlich leer. Eigentlich hätten nicht mehr als 15 Prozent der Ladung verloren gehen dürfen.Die Akkulaufzeit reicht für einen Tag durchschnittlichen Arbeitens mit dem Gerät in der Regel aus. Wer es drauf anlegt, bekommt den Akku aber auch in etwas mehr als vier Stunden leer. Realitätsnah ist das nicht, denn mit voller Displayhelligkeit blendet das Galaxy Tab beim Anschauen von Videos. Normalerweise lassen Anwender auch Bluetooth, WLAN und GPS nicht die ganze Zeit an, wie wir es im Test ausprobiert haben.

Der integrierte Browser tut das automatisch. Das nervt zwar etwas, ist aber eigentlich eine sinnvolle Angelegenheit. Etwas später dimmt das Betriebssystem sogar direkt auf das minimale Level der Hintergrundbeleuchtung. Der Anwender darf das zwar verändern, muss dafür aber manuell die Helligkeit in der Statusleiste regeln - jedes Mal, wenn der Bildschirm wieder aktiviert wird. Ist die Restkapazität bei einem Prozent angelangt, verbietet der Videoplayer weiteres Abspielen von Inhalten.

Der Akkuverbrauch im normalen Betrieb wird durch die Umgebung und die eingeschalteten Komponenten erheblich beeinflusst. Maximal wurden im Test 10 Prozent pro Stunde verbraucht. Letzteres passiert, wenn das Galaxy Tab leichtfertig in einen Rucksack gesteckt wird. Denn das Tablet erhöht offenbar seine Leistungsaufnahme, um zwischen mehreren Schichten technischen Geräts noch Verbindung mit Mobilfunktürmen aufzunehmen. Samsung gibt als normalen Standby bis zu zwei Monate an. Das bezieht sich vermutlich darauf, dass alle Komponenten, bis auf die 3G-Einheit, abgeschaltet sind.Wer den Akku auf 15 Prozent heruntergebracht hat, sollte auf jeden Fall ein Ladegerät suchen. Im Standby verbraucht das Gerät, insbesondere mit aktiven WLAN und GPS, recht viel Energie. Nach der Nachtruhe lässt sich das Galaxy Tab unter Umständen nicht mehr anschalten.Wer den Tabletakku per USB-Verbindung an einem Computer laden will, sollte Geduld mitbringen. Der Ladevorgang dauert dann deutlich länger, als wenn der Akku per Netzteil geladen wird.Eine Ladeleuchte gibt es nicht, aber das Galaxy Tab zeigt den Ladezustand auch im komplett ausgeschalteten Zustand an, sofern der Hauptschalter kurz gedrückt wird. Dann geht das Display samt Statusanzeige kurz und gedimmt an.

Samsungs Galaxy Tab ist seit Mitte Oktober 2010 bei Netzbetreibern verfügbar. Der Fachhandel bekommt das Tablet erst Anfang November 2010. Die unverbindliche Preisempfehlung liegt bei 800 Euro, der Straßenpreis liegt in der Regel deutlich darunter.Der offizielle Preis des Galaxy Tab ist hoch. Zum Glück sind die Preisempfehlungen von Samsung ziemlich locker, und so findet sich das Gerät bei einigen Händlern bereits für Preise deutlich unterhalb von 700 Euro. Damit unterscheidet sich Samsungs Preisgestaltung von der von Apple. Wer dank des Galaxy Tab tatsächlich auf ein Telefon verzichten kann, bekommt ein preislich attraktives Gerät. Wem das Gerät hingegen zu klobig ist und wer trotzdem für einige Fälle ein kleines Mobiltelefon braucht, zahlt halt ein wenig mehr für ein recht vielseitiges und trotzdem leicht transportables Tablet. Die Ausstattung beim aktuellen Modell ist leider nicht ideal. Nur 16 GByte Speicher sind integriert, alle weiteren Daten müssen auf einer Speicherkarte abgelegt werden. Die Speicherkarte kostet natürlich extra. Damit bietet das Galaxy Tab weniger Speicher als ein iPad in ähnlicher Preislage. Aber Samsungs Gerät hat eine gute Kamera und vor allem eine vollwertige Telefoniefunktion - beides fehlt dem iPad 3G.

Es macht viel Spaß, mit dem Galaxy Tab zu arbeiten und zu surfen. Das vergleichsweise kleine 7-Zoll-Display fühlt sich nicht so klein an, wie es zunächst aussieht. Wir fanden den Formfaktor ideal und können Steve Jobs' Meinung zu 7-Zoll-Tablets ("Dead on arrival") nicht teilen. Es ist genug Platz zum Surfen und für Anwendungen da. Das Gerät kann ohne Mühen einhändig gehalten und fast immer mitgenommen werden. Mit dem iPad geht das nicht. Es ist also selbst für Nutzer, die die Telefoniefunktionen uninteressant finden, eine Überlegung wert. Es wäre allerdings schön, wenn Samsung noch etwas Arbeit in die Anpassung des Systems stecken würde, um den Platz auf dem Display besser auszunutzen.Mit Android 2.2 kann die Bluetooth-Funktion im Galaxy Tab nicht umgeschaltet werden, wenn sich das Gerät im Flugzeugmodus befindet. Bei anderen Android-Geräten ist das durchaus möglich.Apple hat ein neues Macbook Air vorgestellt, das einige Eigenschaften des iPads übernimmt. An seiner dicksten Stelle misst es 1,7 cm und am dünnsten Ende 0,3 cm. Es wiegt 1,32 kg und ist in Unibody-Bauweise gefertigt. Dazu kommt ein kleiner Bruder. Das Glas-Trackpad und die Größe der Tastatur entsprechen der aus den normalen Macbook Pros. Das Display misst 13,3 Zoll in der Diagonalen und wird mit LEDs hintergrundbeleuchtet. Seine Auflösung liegt bei 1.440 x 900 Pixeln.

Im Inneren werkeln Intels Core 2 Duo mit 1,86 oder 2,12 GHz (6 MByte L2-Cache) sowie die Grafiklösung Nvidia GeForce 320m, die sich 256 MByte des Hauptspeichers reservieren kann. Neben der üblichen Webcam, die nun Face-Time-Cam heißt, ist nur Flashspeicher an Bord. Ein optisches Laufwerk fehlte auch schon im alten Macbook Air. Statt einer Festplatte kommt Flash-Speicher zum Einsatz, der direkt in einem Modul auf dem Board sitzt.Dazu kommen ein Paar Stereolautsprecher, WLAN nach IEEE 802.11n, Bluetooth und nun zwei USB-2.0-Anschlüsse, ein SD-Kartenleser und ein Mini-Display-Port. Ein Lithium-Polymer-Akku mit 50 Wattstunden soll für eine Laufzeit von 7 Stunden mit eingeschaltetem WLAN sorgen. Die Standbyzeit wird mit 30 Tagen angegeben.Neben dem 13,3 Zoll großen Gerät hat Apple auch noch ein kleineres Macbook Air vorgestellt. Es ist mit einem 11,6 Zoll großen Display (1.366 x 768 Pixel) ausgerüstet und wiegt 1,06 kg. Auch hier ist ein Intel Core 2 Duo eingebaut, der aber nur mit 1,4 oder 1,8 GHz getaktet ist. Die Laufzeit wird mit 5 Stunden angegeben und die Standbyzeit mit ebenfalls 30 Tagen. Der SD-Kartenleser fehlt hier.

Beide Modelle werden standardmäßig nur mit 2 GByte RAM ausgeliefert, maximal können 4 GByte verbaut werden.Das neue 11-Zoll und 13-Zoll MacBook Air sollen ab sofort ausgeliefert werden. Das 1,4 GHz 11-Zoll MacBook Air mit 2 GByte Arbeitsspeicher und 64 GByte Flashspeicher kostet ab 1.000 Euro, das 128 GByte-Model ist für 1.150 Euro erhältlich. Das 13-Zoll-Modell mit 2 GByte Arbeitsspeicher, 1,86 GHz-Prozessor und 128 GByte Flashspeicher kostet ab 1.300 Euro. Mit doppelt so großem Flashspeicher sind 1.600 Euro fällig. Das teuerste MacBook Air mit 13,3 Zoll, 2,13 GHz, 4 GByte RAM und 256 GByte Flashspeicher wird für 1.780 Euro verkauft.HTC hat mit dem Gratia ein Smartphone mit Android 2.2 vorgestellt, das im Dezember 2010 zunächst nur bei Media Markt und Saturn zu haben sein wird. Für 400 Euro erhält der Käufer HSDPA, WLAN und eine 5-Megapixel-Kamera. Der Touchscreen im Gratia hat eine Bilddiagonale von 3,2 Zoll und liefert eine Auflösung von 320 x 480 Pixeln, zur Farbtiefe liegen keine Angaben vor. Für Foto- und Videoaufnahmen steht eine 5-Megapixel-Kamera mit Autofokus bereit. Ein Kameralicht fehlt dem Gerät.

Das HSDPA-Smartphone unterstützt alle vier GSM-Netze samt EDGE und GPRS. Als weitere Drahtlostechnik sind WLAN nach 802.11 b/g und Bluetooth 2.1 vorhanden. Zur Ortung ist ein GPS-Empfänger im Gerät enthalten und es gibt einen digitalen Kompass. Der Programmausführungsspeicher ist 512 MByte groß und es steht ein Speicherkartensteckplatz bereit, der Micro-SD-Cards mit bis zu 32 GByte aufnimmt. Der verwendete Qualcomm-Prozessor arbeitet mit einer Taktrate von 600 MHz.Auf dem Gratia läuft das aktuelle Android 2.2, ergänzt um HTC Sense. Mittels HTC Sense soll sich das Gerät besser bedienen lassen. Anrufe, SMS sowie Daten aus sozialen Netzwerken werden dabei in das Adressbuch integriert und Friendstream fasst Informationen aus verschiedenen sozialen Netzwerken in einer Applikation zusammen.Bei einem Gewicht von 115 Gramm misst das Android-Smartphone 103,8 x 57,7 x 11,7 mm. Der Akku hat eine Kapazität von 1.200 mAh, zu den Akkulaufzeiten liegen keine Angaben vor.Anfang Dezember 2010 soll es das HTC Gratia zunächst bei Media Markt und Saturn geben, Anfang 2011 wird es dann allgemein verfügbar sein. Ohne Vertrag kostet das Mobiltelefon 400 Euro.

Canon hat die Spiegelreflexkamera EOS 5D Mk II mit einem neuen Firmwareupdate ausgestattet. Version 2.0.8 sorgt für eine Reihe von Fehlerbehebungen vor allem bei der Filmaufnahme, dem Live-View-Modus und bei der Stromsparfunktion. Beim Filmen gab es einen Fehler, der die Aufnahme wirksam verhinderte, wenn die Zeit- oder Blendenautomatik in einer der Benutzereinstellungen (C1, C2 und C3) eingestellt war. Die Selbstabschaltung verhinderte gelegentlich Fotoaufnahmen, wenn sie eingeschaltet war. Dann blieb der Druck auf den Auslöser folgenlos. Ein ähnliches Problem entstand auch beim Speedlite Transmitter ST-E2. Waren er und die Kamera auf Selbstabschaltung gestellt, wurden die sonstigen Einstellungen des ST-E2 zurückgesetzt.Die ISO-Einstellung L der 5D Mark II sorgte dafür, dass im Live-View-Modus ein Foto überbelichtet wirkte. Beim Fotografieren mit den Ringblitzen MR-14EX und MT-24EX und einem Slave-Blitzlichtgerät versagte die Synchronisation beim schnurlosen Blitzen.

Die neue Firmware 2.0.8 steht ab sofort zum Download bereit. Der Installationsprozess wird ausführlich auf der Canon-Website beschrieben. Eine leere Compactflash-Karte ist zwingend erforderlich, auch wenn die Kamera per USB mit dem Rechner verbunden wird. Besonders wichtig ist für die Dauer des Updates ein voller Akku oder der Anschluss an ein Netzteil.Die EOS 5D Mark II arbeitet mit einer Auflösung von 21,1 Megapixeln und einer Lichtempfindlichkeit von maximal ISO 25.600. Der CMOS-Sensor ist 36 x 24 mm groß. Die Kamera beherrscht Live-View und ermöglicht Serienaufnahmen mit 3,9 Bildern pro Sekunde für bis zu 310 JPEG-Fotos hintereinander. Um Staubanhaftungen schnell zu lösen, kann der Sensor mit hoher Frequenz vibrieren und den Schmutz abschütteln. Die Auflösung des 3 Zoll großen Displays liegt bei 920.000 Bildpunkten. Das Gehäuse kostet mittlerweile ab rund 1.850 Euro.

Das Braunschweiger Startup Synapse-Phones bietet mit Synapse One ein Smartphone zum Selbstkonfigurieren. Ein Standardmodell für 300 Euro kann um etliche Hardwareoptionen erweitert werden. So kann ein Smartphone auf Basis von Android 2.2 ganz nach den eigenen Bedürfnissen erstellt werden. Das Basismodell des Synapse One bietet einen 4 Zoll großen Super-Amoled-Touchscreen mit einer Auflösung von 480 x 800 Pixeln, der sich auch nicht verändern lässt. Der verwendete Prozessor ist ebenfalls nicht austauschbar und liefert immer eine Taktrate von 1 GHz. Standardmäßig sind die üblichen Sensoren vorhanden, die in modernen Touchscreen-Smartphones selbstverständlich geworden sind. Unterhalb des Displays befinden sich die vier üblichen Android-Knöpfe, die in zwei Ausführungen zu haben sind, entweder als Sensortasten oder als drückbare Knöpfe. Außerdem bietet das Basismodell 4 GByte Speicher und einen Micro-SD-Card-Steckplatz für Speicherkarten mit bis zu 32 GByte. Eine Speicherkarte mit 4 GByte wird dann gleich mitgeliefert. Der Programmausführungsspeicher fasst dann 256 MByte.In der Standardkonfiguration besitzt das Gerät eine 5-Megapixel-Kamera ohne Blitzlicht, zwei Lautstärketasten und einen Kameraauslöser. Mobilfunktechnisch werden in der Basisversion UMTS, HSDPA mit bis zu 7,2 MBit/s, GSM-Quadband sowie Bluetooth 2.1 geboten. Auf WLAN-Technik und 3,5-mm-Klinkenbuchse verzichtet das Basisgerät, das mit einem 1.200-mAH-Akku daherkommt.

Non sarà un caso che, secondo dati raccolti da Nielsen Company, il 62% degli utenti di iPad usano la tavoletta di Apple prevalentemente per giocare. Probabilmente il colosso di Cupertino non aveva pensato questo impiego come focus principale per i suoi dispositivi quando ha lanciato iPhone e poi iPad, ma con il senno di poi gran parte del successo può essere motivato ricorrendo proprio al fattore videoludico.È chiaro che il display più grande di iPad rispetto ad iPhone migliora sensibilmente l'esperienza videoludica. Oltre ad essere un mero fatto visivo, è anche e soprattutto una questione di giocabilità. Con iPhone, infatti, interagire con le dita spesso si traduce nell'impossibilità di vedere parte della schermata e, quindi, di interagire correttamente. Con iPad tutto questo non succede e, anzi, le ridotte dimensioni del dispositivo, gli scarsi consumi e la portabilità rendono l'esperienza di gioco decisamente confortevole.

Poi, ovviamente, non si può non citare l'AppStore, probabilmente l'unico grande segreto del successo di Apple. La possibilità di comprare qualsiasi tipo di applicazione, anche videoludiche, con grande facilità ha sicuramente indotto tanti giocatori meno esperti a usare questi dispositivi. Molti sviluppatori si sono fiondati nel creare progetti per iPhone e iPad, sperando di bissare in qualche modo il successo di Angry Birds e soci."Sicuramente giochi come Call of Duty o World of Warcraft consentono entrate notevolmente più alte, ma hanno contemporaneamente costi di produzione elevati. Angry Birds fa la differenza a causa dei costi di produzione ridotti. I grandi produttori sanno che i mercati dei giochi social e mobile hanno grandi margini di crescita, ma attualmente consentono di avere dei profitti limitati. Angry Birds è solamente un caso di successo, ma alle sue spalle ci sono centinaia, o migliaia, di fallimenti, di giochi che nessuno sente neanche nominare. Tuttavia, non bisogna sminuire il successo di Angry Birds, anzi probabilmente questo gioco esplicita un nuovo modo di generare profitti nel settore dei videogiochi", diceva qualche settimana fa Jesse Divnich, analista di mercato di EEDAR, dopo che Rovio rese pubblico che Angry Birds aveva prodotto 50 milioni di euro di entrate a fronte di un investimento minimo in confronto, ovvero di 100 mila euro.
D'altronde non è nuovamente un caso, sempre citando i dati Nielsen Company, che solamente il 9% di coloro che hanno partecipato al sondaggio hanno dichiarato di non avere mai comprato un'applicazione dall'AppStore e di usare iPad semplicemente per navigare su internet.

L'ultimo fattore che vorrei analizzare in fatto di successo di iPad nel settore videoludico è l'hardware del dispositivo. iPad 2, infatti, ha una maggiore potenza computazionale e una grafica migliore rispetto ad iPhone 4. Il banco di prova è Infinity Blade, ovvero il gioco con la tecnologia più avanzata, pensato da Epic Games per sfruttare l'intera potenza computazionale del dispositivo. Il gioco è sviluppato con procedimento direct to metal, ovvero ogni istruzione hardware del dispositivo viene sfruttata al massimo delle sue potenzialità.iPad 2 ha una CPU Dual Core di tipo Apple A5 che opera a 1 Ghz. Il colosso di Cupertino dichiara che Apple A5 è fino a nove volte più potente nell'elaborazione della grafica tridimensionale rispetto al processore di precedente generazione presente sul primo iPad. Nello specifico il processore è basato sul processore ARM Cortex-A9 MP. La GPU di iPad 2 è una PowerVR SGX543, multicore, aderente alle specifico openGL 2.1. È dalle 3 alle 7 volte più potente del precedente modello nell'elaborazione della grafica.

Lo schermo è di tipo multi-touch widescreen lucido retroilluminato LED da 9,7", con risoluzione di 1024x768 pixel a 132 ppi (pixel per pollice). Lo schermo è sensibile fino a 10 punti di contatto. Il sistema dispone anche di accelerometro, giroscopio, due fotocamere e microfono. La batteria è in grado di fornire dieci ore di autonomia o un mese di stand-by ed è costituita da tre batterie litio-polimeri interne ricaricabili e non removibili da 25Watt/ora equivalenti a 90 kJ.Questi dati si traducono in fatti concreti: se ad esempio la versione di Infinity Blade per il primo iPad risultava depotenziata rispetto alla controparte per iPhone 4, adesso Infinity Blade su iPad 2 ha maggiore dettaglio rispetto alla versione per iPhone 4. Le differenti dotazioni hardware di iPad e iPhone 4, infatti, avevano a delle scelte, con evidenti compromessi per la versione per iPad. Ricordiamo che quest'ultimo, così come iPad 2, renderizza le immagini alla risoluzione 1024x768, mentre iPhone 4 alla risoluzione 960x640.

Le principali differenze della versione iPhone 4 rispetto a quella per il primo iPad riguadavano la risoluzione delle texture e soprattutto il sistema di illuminazione. Con iPad 2, non solo Infinity Blade ha texture e illuminazione allineate con la versione iPhone 4, con riflessi di luce ampiamente accurati sui modelli poligonali dei cavalieri, ma dispone delle feature esclusive che non ci sono su iPhone 4 come l'anti-aliasing.Se il 2010 è stato senza dubbio l'anno di iPad, il 2011 potrebbe diventare l'anno dei tablet Android. Lo scorso anno l'unico vero concorrente di iPad ad aver fatto la propria comparsa sul mercato è stato il capostipite della famiglia di tablet di Samsung: Galaxy Tab. La concorrenza, se così si può chiamare, non si è rivelata infatti competitiva come sperato dalla stessa Samsung: il fatto che il Tablet da 7 pollici del colosso coreano fosse equipaggiato con la versione 2.2 del sistema operativo di Google e rispondesse a esigenze differenti rispetto al dispositivo della mela morsicata, oltre al prezzo di commercializzazione, hanno rappresentato importanti limiti.

Con l'avvento di Honeycomb, la versione per tablet di Android, la musica sembra essere leggermente cambiata e, le piattaforme basate sull'OS opensource di Mountain View sembrano poter avere qualche possibilità in più di concorrere con iOS.La soluzione che andremo ad analizzare con questa recensione segue le orme tracciate dal primo Galaxy Tab di cui abbiamo parlato sopra e prende il nome di Galaxy Tab 10.1v.Presentato lo scorso febbraio in occasione del Mobile World Congress di Barcellona, Galaxy Tab 10.1 è stato poi rimarchiato con il suffisso "v", che indica l'esclusività per l'operatore Vodafone. Se con il primo Galaxy Tab Samsung offriva una soluzione con un formato differente rispetto al diretto concorrente iPad, dopo l'adozione di un pannello da 10.1 pollici e la scelta di dotare il nuovo dispositivo della versione per tablet di Android, il produttore sud coreano si pone in diretta concorrenza con Apple nel tentativo di rubare qualche fetta di mercato all'azienda di Cupertino.Come la soluzione già recensita, Asus EeePad Transformer, anche Galaxy Tab 10.1v è stato sviluppato su piattaforma NVIDIA Tegra 2, operante a una frequenza di 1 GHz. La RAM del sistema ammonta a 512 MB, mentre la memoria di archiviazione è di 16 GB senza possibilità di espansione in quanto manca lo slot per SD o microSD. Il display LCD, di tipo PLS, misura 10.1 pollici e ha risoluzione 1280x800 pixel.

Il mercato della telefonia mobile è veramente molto ampio, e comprende al di fuori delle categorie più classiche e conosciute una serie di nicchie di mercato appetibili ad alcuni produttori che, tuttavia, per il basso numero di rappresentanti presenti sul mercato, rischiano spesso di passare inosservate. Tra queste troviamo ad esempio i terminali cosiddetti "rugged" (resistenti alle intemperie), oppure i cameraphone, dedicati a chi non vuole rinunciare a un comparto fotografico di buon livello o, infine, le soluzioni pensate per gli appassionati di videogiochi di cui in questa recensione andremo ad analizzare l'ultimo esponente: Sony Ericsson Xperia Play.Dopo un periodo povero di novità, successivo al lancio sul mercato delle prime soluzioni della gamma Xperia, Sony Ericsson è tornata sul mercato con una serie di terminali il cui scopo è quello di emulare il successo ottenuto dalle soluzioni che li hanno anticipati e dei quali prendono il posto nel portfolio della compagnia. Uno dei terminali introdotti dalla casa nippo-svedese, di cui ci occuperemo ora, è proprio il tanto vociferato Xperia Play.

In occasione della presentazione alla stampa italiana, tenutasi qualche giorno dopo l'annuncio ufficiale del Mobile World Congress, Sony Ericsson aveva molto enfatizzato l'attesa e le prospettive che si celavano dietro alla nuova soluzione "pro-gamers", sottolineate soprattutto dall'innumerevole quantità di rumors e false notizie che hanno preceduto l'ufficializzazione del terminale. Era infatti dal lontano 2007 che i tecnici del produttore lavoravano alla soluzione che ha trovato la propria identità definitiva solo ad inizio anno.Prima di Sony Ericsson Xperia Play l'unico vero tentativo di creare un terminale che coniugasse le funzioni telefoniche a quelle video-ludiche era stato quello di Nokia . Il colosso finlandese nel 2005 lanciò infatti sul mercato N-Gage, il primo terminale ad assumere i connotati di una consolle. Purtroppo per il produttore scandinavo, nonostante il grande interesse scatenato, N-Gage non ebbe il successo sperato, tanto che fino ad oggi è rimasta l'unica soluzione dedicata ai videogiocatori.

L'ottimizzazione energetica ha sempre rappresentato un elemento chiave per lo sviluppo hardware, soprattutto quando si analizza il segmento delle soluzioni portatili. Riuscire a ridurre al minimo il consumo e l'assorbimento energetico di ogni componente hardware ha sempre rappresentato territorio di sfida per i produttori che, nel corso degli anni, si sono impegnati a garantire importanti livelli di autonomia migliorando al tempo stesso il livello prestazionale.Avere a disposizione un sistema che possa, con una sola batteria, permettere di lavorare per un'intera giornata era qualcosa di difficilmente pensabile e ipotizzabile fino a 5 anni fa: oggi rappresenta una realtà che non necessita di un portafogli gonfio per essere acquistato.Se da un lato la piattaforma hardware, il suo sviluppo, il suo processo produttivo e la sua ottimizzazione rappresentano un elemento chiave, il software deve essere in grado di sfruttare tali caratteristiche. Per quanto una piattaforma possa essere stata sviluppata in ogni suo minimo dettaglio, è fondamentale che il sistema operativo sia capace di gestire al meglio l'intero computer. Potremmo, in questo caso, parlare di ottimizzazione.

Abbiamo parlato di piattaforma hardware, di ottimizzazione e di quanto il sistema operativo conti al fine di massimizzare l'autonomia operativo: tutto questo per introdurre il tema che andremo ad affrontare in queste pagine, l'accelerazione hardware sui browser e quanto questa influisca sull'autonomia complessiva.Quando parliamo di accelerazione hardware facciamo riferimento alla principale delle innovazioni che sono state apportate nei browser di ultima generazione: la possibilità di sfruttare la GPU per gestire o eseguire scenari particolarmente intensi dal punto di vista computazionale rappresenta un vantaggio che, oltre a migliorare l'esperienza di utilizzo, permette di estendere le potenzialità di un normale browser.L'idea di mettere alla prova un sistema andando ad analizzare quanto l'utilizzo della GPU per l'esecuzione di determinate applicazioni, come ad esempio la decodifica dei flussi video, si rifletta sull'autonomia complessiva è arrivata osservando un articolo pubblicato circa un mese fa sul blog di Internet Explorer, a questo indirizzo.
